Welcome to Kindergarten in PSDKindergarten is an important and exciting first step on your child’s educational journey. By motivating all students to learn, challenging them to excel, and supporting them along the way, we ensure they graduate prepared to succeed in this changing world. Students in Poudre School District are supported in many ways including the instructional framework, collaborative teachers and staff, positive classroom culture, and a safe and welcoming learning environment. Together, we foster the whole child. Together, we build on each other’s strengths in a community of learners. Together, we are committed to student success. Together, we are PSD!
Tuition:Half-Day Programs: Half day programs are free.Full-Day Programs: The tuition rate for 2019-20 will be established by the Board of Education in December. Tuition may be paid in a lump sum at the beginning of the school year, or broken into nine monthly installments, due at the first of the month. Details regarding tuition payments will be included in your registration packet.
PSD will provide tuition waivers for students enrolled in full-day programming who qualify for free or reduced priced meals and complete the District’s “Permission to Share” form. Details regarding waivers and necessary forms and documentation will also be included in your registration packet. For more information on waivers and the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, please visit the PSD website.
Transportation:Transportation eligibility for students is based upon the distance between their home and their neighborhood school. Elementary school students are eligible for transportation if they live more than one mile from the neighborhood school in their attendance area. Contact the Transportation Department at 490-3232 with questions. • One-way transportation is provided for half-day kindergarten.• Round trip transportation is provided for full-day programs.• School choice students may apply for space available transportation.
Visit the Transportation webpage for more information. Applications will be available in June 2019.
School Lunches:All meals offered in PSD are nutritious, tasty, and balanced, exceeding all federal and USDA nutritional guidelines. Students may be eligible for free or reduced lunches if they receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or if the household income is within the eligibility limits set by the federal government. Contact the Child Nutrition Department at 490-3557 for more information.
Visit SchoolsPSD has 36 elementary schools, including 28 neighborhood schools, four option schools, and four charter schools. Nearly 70% of PSD families choose to send their children to their neighborhood school, the school located within the attendance area in which they live. In addition to rigorous standards-based curriculum, neighborhood schools offer various instructional and enrichment programs designed to fit individual student needs.
Elementary schools will host open house nights and orientation meetings for parents of upcoming kindergartners throughout the month of January. See the listing of visitation and open house dates included in this brochure to plan your school visits!

Kindergarten Checklist
RegisterYour child must be five years old on or before September 15, 2019 to register for kindergarten for the Fall 2019 school year. Kindergarten registration is January 17, 2019 at all neighborhood schools. To register your student, bring the following items to your neighborhood school:
• Student Enrollment Form found on the PSD website (copies also available at the school sites)
• Child’s birth certificate (original or certified copy)
• Emergency contact information
• Immunization records or signed State of Colorado Exemption Certificate
• Proof of residency (example: ID or utility bill)
Registration hours may vary by school, so check online or call the school directly for a schedule.
School Choice OptionsTo apply to attend a school other than your neighborhood school you will need to complete the online School Choice Application on the PSD website. Deadline for first consideration for elementary schools is January 18, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. MST. Once the application period closes, applications will be processed and you will be notified via phone or email of your status. This process can take up to two weeks once the deadline has closed.
• If you are applying to send your child to another school through school choice, you should still register at your neighborhood school on January 17. This ensures your student is registered and accounted for should your school choice option not be available. If you later accept a school choice seat at another school, please contact your neighborhood school and inform them of the change.
• Charter schools DO NOT follow the PSD school choice procedures. Contact the charter school directly for application procedures.
