The following is a listing of scholarship opportunities directed to Pottsgrove students through email and US Mail. Review the listing to determine eligibility for a particular scholarship. Review the requirements for each to decide if a particular scholarship should be pursued. Visit the website provided and complete the application on-line or pick up a paper copy (if applicable) in the guidance office.

***For scholarships that require an official transcript, request your transcript in the guidance office, allowing two weeks to process this request. Students are responsible for picking up the official sealed transcript and adding it to the scholarship application. Students must gather ALL necessary materials (Letters of recommendation, transcripts, signatures, copy of awards etc.), organize them and mail them to the address provided by the deadline. The guidance office does not mail scholarship applications (unless noted for a few particular scholarships). Those applications that require a return to the guidance office will be noted.

It is important that all directions, suggestions and guidelines be followed for each scholarship. Failure to follow these directions or failure to mail or turn in by the deadline may mean disqualification as a candidate for the scholarship.

Finally, please make a note on your calendar: in October each year, you and a parent should obtain your FSA ID numbers at www.fsaid.gov ; October 1st is the first day you are able to submit your FAFSA. Go online to www.fafsa.ed.gov and print out the worksheet; complete it when you have all of the information and submit the information online electronically with your FSA ID number. MCCC offers free FAFSA Completion Nights. Please check their website for details: www.mc3.edu *Some private universities require the CSS-PROFILE. Abbott & Fenner Scholarship- seniors can apply for this scholarship which requires a response to an essay question and possibly receive $1,000. Students can visit the website for further information:

American Chemical Society Scholarship- (up to $5,000)- seniors, underrepresented minority student: African American, Hispanic or American Indian students pursuing a college degree in the chemical sciences. Visit website for details: www.acs.orgDeadline is early March.

**The Alumni Association of Pottsgrove Award- This $400 award is available to Pottsgrove Seniors who are involved in extra-curricular activities, who maintain good grades and demonstrate citizenship. Students must

write an essay: “What has Pottsgrove done for you?” and focus the response in three areas- academics, extra-curricular and educators.(Applications for this award are made available in the beginning of April and have a deadline of the first school day in May.)

ACE Mentor Scholarship- senior ACE Mentor student, have good attendance in the program, have team leader’s recommendation, plan to pursue post-secondary school in Design & Construction Industry. Visit www.acementor.org in late January for full details- before the March deadline.

AES Engineers Scholarship- ($500)- seniors planning to pursue their education and who are strong academic students, any college major is eligible. Students must go on-line beginning in August to:

Seniors must plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B), demonstrate involvement in community service activities, volunteerism, school activities and/or employment responsibilities. (Students should apply on-line atcommerceonline.com/americandream Applications can be visited beginning in late October with a mid-December deadline)

The American Heritage Federal Credit Union Scholarship- ($1,000) This scholarship is available for seniors who will be attending an accredited institution, be a member in good standing of American Heritage; criteria considered for this scholarship are: academic achievement, GPA, extra-curricular activities and community involvement, student evaluation and writing skills. Applications are available at www.amhfcu.org Students are responsible for obtaining all necessary materials and mailing them to the address by the deadline. ( This scholarship is usually accessible in late January and has an early April deadline.)

American Legion Essay Contest (PA)- (First place- $3,500)- open to seniors, essays must have a cover page with specific information, essays must meet specifications and topic of the A.L. and are judged on proper English structure, accuracy, extent of information and originality. Students must complete the essay to all

specifications and turn it in to guidance by mid January. A committee will select the winner to represent Pottsgrove High School for the early February deadline

American Legion Oratorical Contest- (First place- $7,500)- The contest will consist of two parts. (A) An 8-10 minute, memorized oration will be given on some phase of the US Constitution. (B) A 3-5 minute extemporary oration on one of the four “assigned topics” assigned by National Headquarters. (Applications are mailed to the guidance office and are available in late November with a deadline to the local post in mid-January). Students are responsible for preparing all materials and getting them into the hands of the local AL post.

**American Legion of Pottsgrove Post #244 Americanism Award- (medallion, pin, certificate) seniors, who have or have had family members in a military branch of service or who are planning to enter a military service organization or ROTC. Students must pick up an application in guidance in early April, complete application and essay and return to guidance for the early May deadline.

American Welding Society Scholarship- ($500)- (Students can apply for both the section and district scholarships and are both included- seniors who have a real interest and desire to advance his/her education and training in the field of welding or materials joining or welding intensive education……metallurgy, chemistry, physics, engineering, blue-print reading etc. and must be a US citizen. Students must complete application and gather all necessary paperwork and return all to the address provided by the deadline. (Applications are typically available in guidance in mid-January and have a deadline of early March.

Anna M. Vincent Scholarhip- ($1,000 to $5,000 renewable)- seniors with financial need, excellent grades, good character, held a paying job while in school. Applications can be found on-line at www.annavincent.org and the student must secure a letter of recommendation. Applications are available in late January and are due very early March.

The Ardent Credit Union Scholarships- seniors, accepted by an accredited two or four-year college, university, trade, technical or business school. Complete an application on-line at ardentcu.org/scholarships Deadline: late March.

Asian American Nursing Scholarship- seniors from Asian Heritage, who have financial need, are accepted into an accredited Nursing

program, have a willingness to work post graduation at Methodist for 3 years and write an essay focused on the reasons for selective a nursing career. Students must pick up an application in the guidance office (available in April and all applications and materials must be prepared by student and mailed by the June deadline).

Asian American Women’s Coalition Cecilia Moy Yep Scholarship- ($5,000)- seniors, Asian American female students who excelled in her studies in high school, pursuing an undergraduate education, have a 3.0 (B) GPA, demonstrate financial need. Students must gather and provide all necessary materials for the committee and follow instructions for submission. (Applications are typically available in late January for a mid-March deadline.

Aspiring Animation Professions Scholarship- $1,000 for seniors pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary college. Visit www.animationcareerreview.com for full details.

Aspiring Fashion Professions Scholarship- $1,000 for seniors pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post secondary college. Visit www.fashion-schools.org for full details before the early June deadline.

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship- $1,000 for high school senior pursuing nursing. Must have an excellent academic track record, particularly in science and math and a passion for nursing and overall healthcare. Go to www. nursingschoolsalmanac.com for an application. Deadline is late August.

Aspiring Pharmacy Technician School- $1,000 for seniors interested in pursuing a pharmacology career path at an accredited post-secondary college. Visit www.pharmacytechnicianreview.com for full details before the early June deadline.

Automotive Training Center Scholarship- seniors interested in attending ATC should plan to take the scholarship test at a time designated. There are multiple test dates throughout the year. Students should visit the website at www. autotraining.edu for more information and test dates and times for scholarship eligibility.

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship- ($2,000)- seniors pursuing higher education, who have ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and

community, and the ability to succeed in college. Students must go on-line to

www. axa-achievement.com for scholarship applications and requirements. Students are responsible for securing the appropriate evaluations, recommendations and materials to complete the application. Students must have all materials prepared by the deadline and forward those materials to the address provided. (Deadline for this scholarship is typically mid-February).

(B)

Beneficial Scholars Program Scholarships- (one $20,000 and one $5,000)- high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited higher education institution. Must complete an essay provided by Beneficial (example: “What is the most important issue facing your larger community or your specific neighborhood and how would you act as a force for good in responding to this concern?” (Applications typically sent to guidance office in late October with a mid-December deadline.) Student is responsible for mailing all necessary materials to address provided by the deadline.)

B. Davis Scholarship- ($1,000)- juniors and seniors, essay less than 1,000 words responding to the following: What do you consider to be the most important issue that society has to deal with in the next 10 or 20 years? Why do you think this issue is so important? Visit the website for details: www.studentawardsearch.com/scholarships Scholarship opens in April with a late May deadline.

BIE Robert T. Palladino Memorial Scholarship- ($1,000)- seniors who have exhibited potential to succeed in a building trades career, is involved in the community and has a “C” scholastic average or better. Students can pick up an application in guidance sometime in late February. Student must complete application and gather all necessary materials and mail to the address provided by the early April deadline.

BigSun Scholarship- ($500)-seniors athletes who succeed in their academic pursuits and who are continuing their education. Students

must go on-line for all rules of participation and to apply: (typically opens in November)

Black Women’s Educational Alliance Academic Minority Scholarship- seniors, continuing education; GPA of 3.0 (B); students must complete an application and gather all necessary materials. Applications can be secured in the guidance office in late January and students must mail all materials by the late March deadline.

Berks Technical Institute Scholarship- seniors interested in attending BTI should plan to take the scholarship test at a time designated. There are multiple test dates throughout the year. Students should visit the website at www. berks.edu for more information and test dates and times for scholarship eligibility.

Best Buy Scholarships- for students in grades 9-12. Apply on-line at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com or www.at15.com Deadline: Mid-February

Bounce Energy “Be More” Scholarship- ($2,500)- current high school students, minimum GPA 3.0, PA resident. Complete a 500 word essay and application on line at:http://www.bounceenergy.com/scholarships Applications are typically available at the beginning of April and have a late May deadline.

Burger King Scholars Program- ($1,000, $5,000 and $25,000)- seniors who are actively employed at least part time (do not have to be employed by Burger King), planning on continuing education must visit the website at

www. haveityourwayfoundation.org/burger_king_scholars_program.html Students are responsible for providing and securing all necessary information.

Buick Achievers Scholarship- ($25,000 and $2,000)- seniors who will be enrolling for full-time study as a first-time freshmen at a 4-year college or university, plan to major in one of the following: Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or Design and are

interested in a career in the automotive or related industries. Students must go on-line at www. buickachievers.com for the application and instructions. Students are responsible for all materials.

(C)

Cecilia Moy Yep Scholarship- ($1,250 for four years)- senior Asian American female students who have excelled in her studies or other fields of endeavor and plan to continue education, 3.0 GPA, financial need, extracurricular activities and community service. Students can pick up the application at the end of February and collect all necessary materials and mail by the late March deadline provided.

**The Charles R. Graham Scholarship- (varies from $100 to $2,000)- is given annually to a student in the Pottsgrove High School graduating class who plans to prepare for a professional service occupation in health care, criminology, or social service. Priority will be given to candidates who will study criminology. Students must pick up application form in the beginning of April in guidance, complete form and provide proof of acceptance. Deadline to return form to guidance office is the beginning of May.

Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship- ($20,000 and $10,000)- seniors who demonstrate leadership in school, a commitment to community, show academic achievement and are employed part-time. Students must go on-line at http://www.coca-colascholars.org and apply on-line. Deadline is October 31st each year.

The College JumpStart Scholarship- up to $1,500 to 10-12 graders and is a merit-based scholarship; students must be legal residents of US and attend a college in US in major of choice. Apply on-line at:

www.jumpstart-scholarship.net by mid-April deadline.

Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship- seniors pursuing careers in agriculture must go on-line at www. monsanto.com or www.nafb.com for information and application.

Console & Hollawell Legal Leaders ($1,000) & Paralegal ($500) Scholarships- seniors planning on studying law, paralegal, legal assistant, court reporting or other law related field at a two-or-four college, community college, technical or business school in the US.Visit the website: www.consoleandhollawell.com

Correctional Medical Care Scholarship- $1,000- for seniors seeking a career in the healthcare field. Go to: www.emreumarscholarship.comDeadline is mid March.

(D)

Dear Mr. President Essay Contest- (between $1,000 and $5,000)- open to high school seniors. Topic: “What important issue would you like the President to address?” All information can be found on the website at randmcnally.com/dearmrpresident Deadline is late November (be sure to check Thanksgiving holiday break dates so that you can have a teacher submit it for you on time.)

Delaware Valley Association of School Business Officials- seniors pursuing business majors at an institution of higher learning. Students must visit the website for information, application and deadline and are responsible for preparing all documentation: open beginning in January with a late March deadline.

Delaware Valley Engineers Outstanding High School Student Scholarship- ($1,000)- seniors considering majoring in engineering. Students may go on-line in late October to:

www.dvewc.org complete application, essays and student must gather all necessary paperwork including recommendations and submit them to the address provided by the mid-November deadline.

Delaware Valley School Facility Managers Association Scholarship- (up to $2,000)- for seniors who are planning to continue their education at a trade or technical school (with coursework concentrated in the building trades such as HVAC, plumbing, electric etc. Students must pick up application in guidance office at the beginning of March, gather ALL necessary materials and complete application and mail to the address provided by the mid-April deadline.

**Donna J. Webber Memorial Scholarship- ($10,000)- for a POTTSGROVE senior preparing to enter a Christian College. Consideration for this four year scholarship will be based on

acceptance and enrollment in a recognized Christian college (SEE LIST OF APPROVED COLLEGES IN GUIDANCE OFFICE). Students will respond to the following question: “What do you wish to do with your life that will benefit humanity?” Students must pick up an application in guidance at the beginning of April and return to the guidance office for the early May deadline.

Dunkin’ Donuts Scholarship- ($1,000)- open to seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. For complete requirements go to www. dunkindonuts.com/scholarships Applications are open from the beginning of March through mid-April.

Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation- (between $1,000 and $6,000)- seniors who have taken the SAT or ACT, US Citizen. Students must visit the website at www.ecisf.org for further information and for an application. ECSF does charge $4 for processing the application.

Elks National Foundation Legacy Award- $4,000 for a senior child or step-child, grandchild or step-grandchild of a living Elk (see membership rules), Go to www.elks.org to complete the on-line application. Contest opens in early September and ends early February.

Empire Education Group/Empire Beauty School Scholarship- (between $500 and $1,500)- for seniors planning to attend Empire’s Cosmetology program. Students must attend the scheduled evaluation days. Student can pick up an application in guidance or visit the website at www. empire.edu/highschool Applications are made available in October and students must mail all materials by the May deadline (or contact Empire for earlier evaluation)

EPAITDM- Easter PA Information Technology Data Manager’s Scholarship- (up to $1,000) seniors planning to attend at least a two year post high school academic or vocational program, must have interest in the field of technology/computer science. Applications can be picked up in guidance in April and students must mail ALL materials for a late May deadline.

Family & Consumer Science/Grace M. Reimard Scholarship ($500)- seniors who are sincerely interested in a career in Family & Consumer Sciences, is in good scholastic standing, planning to attend a college immediately after graduation Students must pick up an application in the guidance office in the beginning of March and prepare and submit all materials by the mid April deadline to the address provided.

Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) Scholarship- ($5,000)- for seniors; students must answer an essay question (example: “Why is free speech important at our nation’s colleges and universities?”) Essays should be between 800-1,000 words. Students can pick up information in the guidance office or visit the website on-line for all contest rules: www. thefire.org/contests Contest opens in early September and ends in early November.

The John McKee Scholarship- (up to $16,000)- college or vocational training scholarships for seniors who are: fatherless boys, in need of financial assistance. Multiple Sclerosis Society Scholarship- up to $3,000 for seniors who are the children of people with MS or seniors who have MS. **Pottsgrove Education Association Scholarship- ($500)- seniors planning to attend an accredited 4-year institution and to major in education. Pottstown Elks Annual Student Assistance Award- ($5,000)- seniors, US Citizen. Financial need, leadership and scholarship, as well as citizenship, personality, perseverance and resourcefulness are the criteria by which applicants will be judged. Students of outstanding merit have the best chance to win an award. Experience

indicates students with high scholarship ratings, excellent leadership qualities and a well rounded personality generally qualify for final consideration. Financial need is a very important part of the formula. Students can pick up an application in the guidance office in March, must complete the application procedures EXACTLY as indicated, gather all necessary paperwork and organize it and file it EXACTLY as indicated on the instructions page. Shepherd of the Hills Christian Preschool/Peg Merkley Scholarship- ($500)- seniors who completed the Pre-K class at Shepherd of the Hills Christian Preschool, who has been accepted into a post high school study program, demonstrated citizenship and character by participating in extra-curricular and community activities and who possess an acceptable scholastic record. Applications are available in the guidance office in March and have a late April deadline.

Soroptimist International of Pottstown Scholarship- ($1,000)- senior female student, daughter of female “head of household”, cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, planning to attend a 2-year (associate degree) or a 4-year (baccalaureate degree) program, have a maximum family income: $80,000 or less. Students are responsible to pick up an application packet in guidance in mid-February, complete application, write essay (How can I be a future role model or mentor for other women and girls? And How will this award help me to accomplish this goal? - gather all necessary paperwork and mail by the end of March deadline.

Special Needs Children’s Foundation of Montgomery County Post-Secondary Education & Training Scholarships- ($300-$400)- these scholarships are awarded to students to further develop and thrive in the post-secondary environment and to successfully enter and compete in the labor force upon graduation from trade schools, apprenticeship programs, community colleges or universities; student must be a senior with “special needs” (individual with a disability- mental retardation, hard of hearing, deaf, speech and language impaired, blind, partially sighted, orthopedically impaired, learning or behavioral disability) Students must pick up an application in guidance in February and complete application and secure all materials and signatures by the mid-March due date.

Student Insights Student View Scholarship- ($500-$4,000)- seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. Students log onto website at

www.student-view.com and complete a 20 minute survey to enter name. Website is available for survey from February until mid-April.

SunTrust Off To College Scholarship- ($1,000)- seniors who are planning to attend college or a career school. Students must register late October through early May on-line at:

Susanna DeLaurentis Memorial Scholarship- ($1,000)- college-bound seniors with superior academic and extracurricular achievements who contend with a chronic disease or other serious challenge to physical or mental health. Students must pick up application in guidance in mid-March, complete brief application and supply all supporting materials to address provided by the mid-April deadline.

Tanitha Kulsiri Memorial Scholarship- ($500-$1,000)- seniors pursuing a BS/BA degree at an accredited college// and another scholarship for a senior living with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Students must go on-line for all instructions and to complete an application beginning in January and prepare all materials for mailing by the May deadline.

Tri County Area Federal Credit Union- ($1,500)- seniors, members and children of members of the Tri County Area Federal Credit Union, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, planning to further your education at an accredited college or trade school. Students should go on-line in January at:

www. tcafcu.org for scholarship information and application, complete application and essay, gather all necessary paperwork to complete the application and submit it by the mid-March deadline.

Tri-County Assoc. of NAIFA/Keytone Foundation Undergraduate College Schol.- open to PA seniors is a $4,000 award. Awards are based on student’s leadership potential, financial need, academic merit and community service. Applications can be picked up in the guidance office in mid-February and must be returned to guidance with ALL materials including letters of recommendation by mid-March.

Tri-County Career Women Student Scholarship- female seniors, planning to continue education. This scholarship may not be available each year. It involves completing an application, essays and transcript. If scholarship is offered it will be available in early March in the guidance office.

USW Hugh Carcella Scholarship- ($4,000)- seniors, children of member of a United Steelworkers, District 10 (Eastern) local union—(or child of retiree, disabled or deceased member). Selection will be based on grades and SAT score. Students must obtain an application from the participating local union in October, complete the application and gather supporting documentation and signatures and mail by the mid-March deadline.

USA Funds Scholarship- ($1,500)- seniors with financial need, are members of an ethnic minority group or are physically disabled. Students must visit the website from mid-December to the deadline date in mid-February for details and to complete the application.

Valley Forge Chapter/Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers- ($200-$25,000)- seniors planning to attend Drexel University or Temple University to major in Engineering, must meet/exceed minimum test scores (SAT M-600; CR-500), US Citizen. Students must pick up an application in guidance in late November, complete application and gather all necessary paperwork and mail to the address provided by the January deadline.

Violet Richardson Award/Soroptimist International- ($500)- female high school students who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts such as: fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning u the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty. Volunteer actions that benefit women or girls are of particular interest. Students can pick up the applications in the guidance office in November, complete the application and gather all necessary paperwork to complete the application, then mail it to the address provided by the early December deadline.

**Walter & Bertha Wolf Scholarship- ($500 yr for 4 years)- seniors, basis for selection is financial need, scholastic ability and evidence of college acceptance. Financial need is the controlling factor. This scholarship will be given to students whose residence is in LOWER Pottsgrove. If additional scholarships are available after qualified students from Lower are selected, students living in other townships (Upper and West) will also be considered. Students must pick up an application in guidance in early April, complete it and return to guidance for the early May deadline. (All items must be filled in to qualify for the scholarship)

Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship- seniors with a “B” average, who participate in at least one sport and who is a leader in school and in the community. Students can go on-line in August to apply at

www. wendysheisman.com click on students/parents and complete the on-line application. Students must request that their counselor be the “reviewer” for their application upon completion. Deadline is early March. (ALLOW FIVE SCHOOL DAYS PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE FOR NOTIFICATION OF COUNSELOR)
