The poster presents an establishing shot of what appears to be the 7 main characters. The physicality of the characters shows the roles in which they play. The males are standing up at the back showing power and with the prop of a baseball bat representing danger and violence compliment their stance. The male character sat on the floor looking almost scared and stern placed at the back against the wall tell the audience he is almost the vulnerable character. Compared to the female characters who are sat on the wall and pillar with their legs crossed and showing hand gestures that represent attitude.

The back drop for the poster shows a dark low key lit sky line. Representing the urban city/estate that the film is set in. The sky is mainly dark blue but it has hints of light white coming in from the left side which could express signs of a happy ending seeing the light coming through. It also creates a strong juxtaposition in the colours between the roof top/concrete Path. Making the dark shadowing light on the characters look shady.

The costumes of the characters are dark grey and black tracksuits and hoodies. Clothing that is commonly associated with anti-social behaviour. The females are in short skirts and show the only bits of colour to the poster. Promoting their famine side, suggesting negative connotations of easy sexualised characters.

The main title of the film is presented In A white bold upper case font, apart from the little ‘I’. This could have a range of meaning s but I think it suggests that the story line focuses on individuals. But its also powerful as in a way it works as a personal pronoun as it’s the one letter that stands out while you’re reading it. The tag line ‘before adulthood comes…’ is effect as its recognised as a direct address and also could been seen as the USP hinting at a second film.

The credit block is also present in white but smaller font as the Actors and directors are not so much a selling point for this film, but more the story line.

Showing a release date creates a sense of excitement. It Is effective because its in a bold white font on

black and a specific date which will stay in someone’s head.

At the top of the poster there is a5 star review. This is a huge selling point as it makes people who aren’t in the target audience egger to watch the film as it has a great review. The review title is in black and is written in quite a simple rounded font. Not creating a huge contrast from the low key dark lighting of the setting.

The Actors names are separated from the credit block. This emphasises the high class actors that are in the film which is a significant selling point to the film.

The ‘ coming soon ‘ title is the second biggest font on the poster. Giving the viewer a sense of anticipation and exciting that the film is coming soon. It follows the same conventions of the snatch font keeping it simple.

There is no background for the snatch poster, highlighting the characters as the most important element to the film. The characters are in powerful costumes which reflect very clearly there personality. For example Brad Pitt is wearing a mix match outfit conforming to the traditional ‘Gypsy’ stereotype. The connotations of dark red and deep blue relate to his dangerous but cool character. He is positioned in the centre of the characters suggesting he is the most significant to the film.

The characters are all layered on top of eacho0ther giving them a sense of closeness and presenting the theme of gangs.

The Characters are all looking forward with stern facial expressions and upright strong body language. With the dog – ( a white pit-bull with black eye patch.) They have created am almost 3G effect, Jumping out at the viewer of the poster giving it a sense of tension/ danger as all the energy of the characters is directed in front of them, to you.

The website for the film is in a red font. This is the brightest colour on the film poster making it stand out. Encouraging film fans to go onto the website to find out more about the film and then spread the word. The actors are all wearing different clothing showing that they are all clear individuals making it exciting for the viewer, anything could happen. I like this poster as it is simple yet effective and we are planning on using the same theme of the characters being the most iconic imagine in ours.

In the shutter island poster there is an unusual use of both character and setting, almost like a split screen. This could relate to the confusing and full on narrative. It is also effective as it shows the two main USP of the film. A famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio and the setting of the film title, ‘shutter island.’ The actual titles of these two are placed central on the poster, in bold white font creating a strong contrast to the dark black background.

The lighting is very low key, and the pitch black background fades in onto his face. He shows an almost confused and concerned facial expression, which expresses the psychological nature of the film. The prop of a bright orange flame from a match is presented closely to his face. This is the brightest part of the poster and could signify his trying to find his way; which relates to the story.

The credit block is shown in a grey font against the dark blue almost sinister sea. This is important as the names listed all add credibility to the film. Big production company logos are recognised by people and therefore that draws attention to the poster.

The layering of images on the poster work well together with the dominate colours of black blue and red. The stormy weather creates a pathetic fallacy feel to the film and emphasis the thriller genre. There is a mysterious white/blue glow around the island itself drawing the viewer in.

The tag line is written in red which could connate danger and lover, and is placed on a deep blue background which symbolises deep meanings. The tag line is punchy and powerful. With the use of the word ‘you’ is automatically connects the audience of the poster to the poster. Additionally it automatically creates unanswered questions in the audience’s mind. Creating yet another intriguing factor to the poster. Which is aided by the mysterious atmosphere of the poster created by the mise en scene.

The release date is also shown in a red font. The use of a specific date is more effective as people will remember the date.

I like this poster as I think it is unique and although it is dark and sinister it is almost aesthetically pleasing to the eye for a trailer of this genre. The juxtaposition of the colours and layered images sets the poster aside from all other film posters. I will take influence from the posters colours and font as I think they really draw the viewer in.
