    Quality Assurance.

    Posta had a beautifully set up stand that was attraction to many including the Cabinet Secretafor Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Develo

    ment, Mr. Felix Koskei, who was indeed impressby the Corporations interpretation of the TraFairs theme. Senior Regional Manager, NairoMr. Washington Opata, together with the sateam, took the Ministers delegation, membersthe Board and Management of Posta presethrough a precise presentation on what the Corpration has to offer to its various stakeholders.

    POSTAL FRATERNITY CELEBRATES 139TH WORLD POST DAY

    On 9th October 2013, the global Postal Administrations celebrated the 139th World Post Day.

    In Kenya, Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) in collaboration with the CommunicationsCommission of Kenya and the Ministry of Information, Communication & Technology (ICT) markedthe Day with a colourful ceremony held at the Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi. The theme of thisyears World Post Day was The Post, delivering for people and businesses daily.

    The Chief Guest was the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information Communication & Technology,who was represented by the Director of Information, Mr. Olewe Owiti. In his speech, the CabinetSecretary lauded the PCK for embracing ICT in its operations whilst still staying true to its mandateof providing affordable, reliable and efficient postal services to all Kenyans wherever they residein the country.

    The Director General of the Universal Postal Union, Ambassador Bishar Hussein in his speech, readon his behalf by Eng. Francis Wangusi, the Director General of Communications Commission of Ken-ya (CCK), urged governments to remember their national Post's potential for delivering essentialsocial and economic services to their citizens and businesses. I salute the dedication of the morethan 5 million postal staff worldwide who work to connect people and businesses everywhere dai-ly, he said.

    The climax of the event was the presentation ofawards to the national winners of the Interna-tional Letter Writing Competition for young peo-ple aged below 15 years. The students had beenasked to write on why water is precious. The2013 national winner was Ms Wendy Jemutai Egoof Moi Girls High School, Eldoret who won Kshs.100,000. Other winners included Dennis Ojami ofShalom Schools, Naro Moru, who came in second,Fatuma Abdallah Shariff Hussein of Tahdhib Mus-

    lim Academy, Malindi, Dennis Machira of LimuruTown Primary School, Limuru and Ianscott KisooNzangi of Embu Shepherd Academy, Embu all atthird position.

    Also present at the occasion was Mr DavidJakaite from the Ministry of Environment, Water& Natural Resources who gave a address on whywater is precious, Ms Jane Babsa-Nzibo, Chair-person of the Courier Industry Association of Ken-ya-CIAK and other key stakeholders in the PostalIndustry in Kenya.

    POSTA DONATES KSHS ONE MILLION TOWESTGATE VICTIMS

    Postal Corporation of Kenya officially commis-sioned and handed over a fully furnished Waiting

    Bay for the Paediatric Emergency Unit at the Kenyat-ta National Hospital on 18th of September 2013. TheWaiting Bay was constructed through the PCK Corpo-rate Social Responsibility (CSR) Sponsorship Pro-gramme. The KNH Paediatric Emergency Unit receivesand treats over 200 children per day and thereforethe Waiting Bay will greatly assist in creating morespace for them.

    Present at the ceremony was the Chairman, PCKBoard of Directors, Mr. Cyrus Maina. He stated that itwas a great honour for the Corporation to have con-structed the Waiting Bay which would benefit the pa-tients and children who visited the hospital. He fur-ther stated that the Corporation was passionate aboutsupporting Corporate Social Responsibility pro-grammes that contribute to the wellbeing of the localcommunity.

    Also present during the auspicious event was the

ChiefExecutive Officer, KNH, Dr. Simeon Monda, Head ofDepartment, Paediatric Unit, Dr. Polly Okello as wella senior management from both organizations. Onbehalf of his team, Dr. Monda thanked the Corpora-tion for the great work done and looked forward tomore partnerships in the future.

    Postal Corporation of Kenya donated Kshs. 1 Mlion towards assisting victims of the Westgate Mtragedy, which occurred on Saturday 21st of Setember 2013. The cheque was presented to tKenya Red Cross by the Postmaster General, DEnock Kinara, on Monday 23rd of September 20at their offices.

    Dr. Kinara passed on the Corporations condolenes to families of those who had lost their lives asympathies to the injured. He lauded Kenya ReCross for the quick response to disaster situationoting that it was a calling to serve the communty in such ways.

    Present during the donation was the GovernoKenya Red Cross, Dr. Mohamud Said who on behaof the organization and victims of the trage

    thanked Posta for the generous contribution. stated that the funds would go towards long tersupport of the victims of not only the Westgatragedy but also those of other unforeseeabemergency disasters.

    Posta Staff members were also encouraged to dnate much needed blood towards aiding victims the tragedy.

    NEW APPOINTMENTS

    Mr. Kennedy BosireMasita is the newHead of Depart-ment, Investigations& Security Risk Man-agement. He joined

    the Corporationfrom October 2013.Mr. Masita has hadan illustrious careerin Financial Forensic

    Investigations spanning over 25 years. He beganhis training as a Police Officer working as a Prose-cutor with the Nairobi Law Courts after graduat-ing with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Uni-versity of Nairobi. He also has Postgraduate train-ing in Fraud, Investigations Management and Cor-

    ruption Control.

    Mr. Masita has worked with various organizationsincluding the Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commissionas the Principal Forensic Investigator & Coordina-tor Investigations and Asset Tracing and CentralBank of Kenya (CBK) in the Banking Fraud Investi-gations Department. He has also worked for theCriminal Investigations Department (CID) as theHead of Fraud Investigations in Government Minis-tries and Parastatals and as a consultant in South

    Sudan.

    Mr. Masita is married with three daughters andloves to read biographies and to swim.

    Further, Mrs. EmilyMenge-Ouya hasbeen confirmed tothe position of Man-ager/ Strategy &Research Develop-ment, with effectfrom 1st October2013. Previously,she held theposition of Assistant

    Manager/Marketing. Mrs. Ouya has worked for theCorporation for the past 22 years in various capac-ities.

    Mrs. Ouya begun as an Accounts Officer ithe Finance & Accounts Department and harisen through the ranks over the years. She a Chartered Marketer with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Univesity of Cambridge, United Kingdom. She alsholds a Master of Business Administratio

    (MBA) from the University of Sunderland.

    In her free time, Mrs. Ouya likes to volunteeat charity organizations particularly thosdealing with orphans and vulnerable chidren. She is also a volunteer with the Agrcultural Society of Kenya.

    to the positioof Manager/ Innovations Business Sytems in the Information CommunicationsTechnology

    (ICT) Department with effect from 1st October 2013. Before the promotion, he held thposition of Assistant Manager/ Systems Ad

    ministration.

    Mr. Muinde has worked for the Corporatiosince August 2010. He holds a Bachelor oScience from the Jomo Kenyatta Universitof Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) as weas a Diploma in Systems Development. He a Certified Network Associate and an OraclCertified Associate. In his new capacity, MMuinde looks forward to driving new innovations in ICT in line with developing an

    changing technologies. He also wants tspearhead development of robust businessystems and is happy that the Corporation taking great steps to invest in ICT.

    Away from the ICT environment, Mr. Muindlikes to travel, read and participate in sporting activities.

    POSTA PENSIONS SCHEME ELECTION CAMPAIGNS COMMENCE

    The Postal Corporation of Kenya Staff Retirement Benefit Scheme is set to have its elections of two Trusteeon Thursday 24th October 2013.

    Five candidates have been nominated for elections out of 9 applicants and include, in no particular order:

Cherono - Security Officer5. Betty K. Rucha - Manager/Financial & Agency ServicesThe five were nominated after rigorous vetting and were found to qualify to contest. Campaigns have beguin earnest. The Corporate Communications & Public Affairs team would like to wish success to all the nomnated candidates.

    INTERNATIONAL SCENE

    POSTA HOSTS EAST AFRICAN COMMUNICATION ORGANIZATION (EACO) JOINT INSPECTION EXERCISE

    The East African Communication Organization (EACO) Joint Inspection exercise this year was held in Nairoband Mombasa from 9th to 13th September 2013. The delegation comprised of members from the East Africacountries including Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. The main objective of the Joint Inspection exercise was to ensure the security of international mails in the post by inspection of offices of exchange, mailing unit and international airports among others. The next joint inspection will be held in Dar-E-Salaam at a date to be agreed upon by EACO member countries.

    ALARM RESOLUTION STUDY HELD IN KENYA

    Kenya hosted the Alarm Resolution Study from 3rd to 4th October 2013 in Nairobi. A Universal Postal Unio(UPU) Consultant was charged with this exercise and worked closely with Security and Operations deparments of the Corporation. The objective of the Alarm Resolution Survey was to examine the issues relating talarm resolution procedures such as handling of dangerous good. The UPU selected the Postal Corporation oKenya because of its large volume of International Mails transiting through Nairobi and wide variety of commercial contents transiting through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

    POSTA PARTICIPATES IN INTEGRATED POSTAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (IPDP)

    Postal Corporation of Kenya hosted UPU Consultant, Mr. Juan Iann, on Integrated Postal Development Programme (IPDP) mission for two weeks from 7th to 18thOctober 2013. The missions main agenda is to improve the processes taken when carrying out the organizational business. So far Mr. Juan Iann has visited several departments in the organization such as Marketing& Strategy, Operations & Customer Service, Courieand the Rift Valley Region.

    In addition, Posta will participate in the Council of Administration and Postal Operations Council (CA/POCmeetings that will be held from 28th October to 15th November 2013 in Berne, Switzerland. The meetings argeared towards helping Postal Administrations modernize and upgrade their postal products and services. deals with the operational, economic and commercial aspects of the postal business. The Corporation will brepresented by a delegation led by the Postmaster General, Dr. Enock Kinara.
