14 billion people do not have access to electricity with 85 of the off-grid
population in Africa living without electricity access Sub-Saharan Africa off-
grid population is forecasted to rise from 600 million to 698 million people in
2030
Mini grids will have to provide more than 40 of the new capacity needed by
2030 and estimated to have a market potential of US$4 billion per year
Against such a critical backdrop the inaugural Africa Mini Grids Summit
convened key decision and policy makers along with the power players in the
mini grids sector to share their invaluable expertise and experience to assist
participants with their mini grid blueprints The event was a huge success with
over 50 organizations from 28 countries being treated to a first class event
where pressing issues and solutions are brought to the fore and extraordinary
networking opportunities were a given
The inaugural Africa Mini Grids Summit provided key policy and project
updates incentives amp targets for mini grids implementation with dedicated
country sessions on Kenya Tanzania Zambia Uganda Mozambique Tunisia

04 AFRICA MINI GRIDS SUMMIT 2014
14 billion people do not have access to electricity with 85 of the off-grid
population in Africa living without electricity access Sub-Saharan Africa off-
grid population is forecasted to rise from 600 million to 698 million people in
2030
Mini grids will have to provide more than 40 of the new capacity needed by
2030 and estimated to have a market potential of US$4 billion per year
Against such a critical backdrop the inaugural Africa Mini Grids Summit
convened key decision and policy makers along with the power players in the
mini grids sector to share their invaluable expertise and experience to assist
participants with their mini grid blueprints The event was a huge success with
over 50 organizations from 28 countries being treated to a first class event
where pressing issues and solutions are brought to the fore and extraordinary
networking opportunities were a given
The inaugural Africa Mini Grids Summit provided key policy and project
updates incentives amp targets for mini grids implementation with dedicated
country sessions on Kenya Tanzania Zambia Uganda Mozambique Tunisia
and Ethiopia amongst others The two-day information packed event also
presented case studies from agencies such as GIZ and DFID The technical
aspects of mini grids were keenly deliberated through presentations from the
Council for Scientific amp Industrial Research South Africa and Strathmore Energy
Research Centre Other key highlights includes financing sessions by GVEP
and Frontier Investment Management along with an immersive site visit to the
solar facilities of Strathmore Energy Research Centre

14 billion people do not have access to electricity with 85 of the off-grid
population in Africa living without electricity access Sub-Saharan Africa off-
grid population is forecasted to rise from 600 million to 698 million people in
2030
Mini grids will have to provide more than 40 of the new capacity needed by
2030 and estimated to have a market potential of US$4 billion per year
Against such a critical backdrop the inaugural Africa Mini Grids Summit
convened key decision and policy makers along with the power players in the
mini grids sector to share their invaluable expertise and experience to assist
participants with their mini grid blueprints The event was a huge success with
over 50 organizations from 28 countries being treated to a first class event
where pressing issues and solutions are brought to the fore and extraordinary
networking opportunities were a given
The inaugural Africa Mini Grids Summit provided key policy and project
updates incentives amp targets for mini grids implementation with dedicated
country sessions on Kenya Tanzania Zambia Uganda Mozambique Tunisia
and Ethiopia amongst others The two-day information packed event also
presented case studies from agencies such as GIZ and DFID The technical
aspects of mini grids were keenly deliberated through presentations from the
Council for Scientific amp Industrial Research South Africa and Strathmore Energy
Research Centre Other key highlights includes financing sessions by GVEP
and Frontier Investment Management along with an immersive site visit to the
solar facilities of Strathmore Energy Research Centre
