Post modernism

Definition:Relating to, or being a theory that involves a radical reappraisal (Bring it back) of modern assumptions about culture, identity, history or language.

“Music videos are considered to be the ultimate forms of post modernistic texts”.

Applying post modernism to my music video:Our video actual show the identity of the band and it closes up on the lead singer and his girl. From this video many people would have beliefs and views that say this video is quite mysterious and this is because we have shot the music video through an isolated area which is covered up with our props to become the Mise en scene.

This screenshot shot shows that the Mise en scene as the army nets is used in another video from the past which shows this is a unique setting as in the past it has a background with the nets on a white background. Our video shows the indie boy band playing the song thin black jeans which is based on a relationship of the lead singer and the girl. From this people would suggest that the boys should not just some clothing that is relevant but

wear more clothes that are showing their personality that shows they are an indie band.

Indie rock music videos don’t normally have a girl shown when the band is performing as in the past it is just the boys so our video contradicts the truth by having a girl who is a mystery until the end when she comes face to face with the lead singer. This video shows disbeliefs in the truth of the relationship as they are both not looking eye to eye as you would see most of the music videos show the boy and girl staring at each other.

There is nothing to say original to say. Everything in the present is a reworking of the past. It is basically the borrowing of things from other cultures in the past and integrating them in the new product being produced. From our music video you can see we have used candles and shown them still lit which indicates hope for the lead singer and the girls

relationship but this candle was borrowed from the Indian culture who celebrate diwali as this is the festival of lights to welcome lord ram and sita back from the jungle after 14 years. In the video the lights of the candles show they are welcoming the girl in to the lead singers life shows significance to make the part in the video look realistic in the eyes of the audience.

The leaves connotes a world where the girl is walking through her imaginary land to enter deans world in reality where him and the band a performing a song and it shows their worlds both meet in reality.

This screenshot shows that the girl in entering reality which isn’t that real. The leaves connote the season has changed until she figured a way to appear in front of them. She is entering deans world but it has not effect on him. Some people would say how is that possible because we have borrowed this feature from another music video which shows the girl walking through the isolate street (her imaginary world) until she met the guy she was dreaming about in reality by being in the same place.

The army nets are a symbol of an army culture shows they were in action to fight for the girl he wants and she is fighting for what she desires. Also you can see that people would not allow the girl to be in contact with the boy.

Their relationship is shown when he is nearly performing the end of the song as she puts her hand on his shoulder and walks of shows this is his dream and that she has gone away from him. He needs the song on we’re all guilty which shows the

relationship has failed and that he is felling guilty due to his reaction of the girl disappearing.

Any boundary between real and the imaginary has passed as this is shown on the video where the line of reality and imaginary has come together to merge. This screenshot shows the simulation of reality where it shows the fake version of the real thing which its meaning has been disablized. As people have different perspectives on the way they would produce a belief on how the girl is crossing her limits but it’s not about that as it about the girl entering to another world which is real from the fake.

The close ups of the guitarist playing the guitar is a significant thing in this music video as in the present it people would believe that guitars are relevant for this song for this band. However people in the past would suggest that there should be more of the lead singer shown and no one else. Post modernism discarding the truth as it wants to create an image in the mind of the audience that we are confused between what is real and what is not. The screenshot shows how the music video shows originality but also it has parts of

past music videos embedded in as the way the guy is playing the guitar and drums is totally different which is used as an advantage to make the music video have more importance.

In this whole video it shows the lead singer singing and then it glimpses to the girl every now and then to show they either had a relationship which is over or is still ongoing but both of them have different ways of expressing it. Therefore post modernism is considered to show that this music video is showing the story of them broken up and how they express feelings which make the audience want to believe it and not believe it is true.
