Introduction

This book teaches the practical application of scientific or affirmative prayer. I call it Positive Prayer because it is using the power of your mind to make positive assertions or declarations of Truth. One hundred one of these are provided for you in Part Two.

I recommend that you keep this book handy for quick reference for just the right Positive Prayer for any and all situations. They will help you keep your attitude positive and uplifted and in accord with the Truth of your being, and in tune with God. And it will help you practice the presence of God.

If praying positively is new to you do not underestimate the power of using affirmations. Those in this book are declarations of Truth. They are not just “positive thinking band-aids.” Rather, they are here to empower you to enjoy all of the wonderful good God has for you.

You deserve it all! If you will allow it to, this book will open the way for you to live the more abundant life of love, joy, good health, peace and prosperity, and to do so now.

Affirmative Prayer

Having attended a somewhat liberal but traditional church, in my early years, I had been taught to beg and beseech God for favors. And, if God deemed me worthy, and if I prayed hard enough, He would grant them to me. But I was sure that God was hard of hearing, or I didn’t deserve anything good from Him. Consequently, my prayers often went unanswered, or so I thought.

So I struggled along, mostly believing that God didn’t care much about me. Something in me just didn’t agree with begging and beseeching God for things, which is called prayer by less enlightened ones. Consequently, I forgot about praying which wasn’t a wise thing to do because, as I later learned, God always answers prayer regardless of how you pray. It is simply done according to one’s own beliefs, faith, and level of acceptance.

Fortunately, I eventually learned to pray scientifically, which means to affirm or declare Truth. It was about 50 years ago while attending a sales training school in Seattle, Washington that I learned to pray positively or affirmatively. It wasn’t called prayer at the sales school, but that is what it was.

A co-owner of the school was a Unity student who wrote the home-study training manuals. In the very first lesson was information on affirmations and instruction on why and how to use them. It made a lot of sense to me, and when I began using affirmations, my thinking changed in a very positive way! A little later on, I attended a Unity church where I discovered that affirmations were really a form of prayer—a very positive and powerful form!

There is power in speaking affirmations; however, the real power comes when you speak them as actual declarations of Truth. That is when they become Positive Prayers. Positive prayer is praying scientifically.

When you declare something that is innately true and do so repetitively, you establish a new subconscious belief system. Thus, you empower yourself and change your life. It is the correct use of your great mind power.

To affirm anything, (pray scientifically) is to state positively that it is true, even though appearances may say otherwise.

Job said, “Thou shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee.” In other words, he was saying that if we will affirm Truth steadfastly, we are in accord with God’s law of fulfillment. It is nothing less than the Law of Attraction in practical application.

~ ~ ~ When I was trying to get to Unity School of Practical

Christianity for my first training program, I missed two times because it didn’t work out. But when I spoke the following Positive Prayer, the way cleared and I attended my first four-week session.

The Spirit of the Lord goes before me making easy and successful my way.

I kept using this Positive Prayer as I successfully completed all of my classes, and I still use it today.

While speaking Positive Prayers over and over, no circumstance, person, or persons, can by any possibility come between you and the Source of your life, love, wisdom, or power. Only your own ignorance or lack of acceptance can hinder your having the full and complete answer to your positive prayer.

It is never because God withholds, but that you interrupt the flow of divine substance through negative or lack thinking, which is a conscious disconnect from God. Therefore, it should be clear to keep your thinking and your words on the highest level. Between your positive declarations, never allow

negatives such as doubt or fear to enter your consciousness, and never give voice to these either.

Always keep your thinking and your speaking positive in accord with God-thinking. Think and speak in terms of now. The happy results will then be automatic! (Refer to the author’s book, NOW Power.)

Your Spoken Word

Through the power of your spoken word, you have what is needed to make your life happy, healthy, and fulfilled. This is your personal power to make changes in your life. No matter what may presently be going on in your life, or what has happened up until now, you can make your life all that you desire it to be.

Now that you know the power of your spoken word, you will be careful as to what you speak, and also to what you listen to. Now you will make sure that you speak only positive, uplifting, life-enriching words.

Words make the difference between miserable and marvelous living. It is your choice, of course, to speak words that make your life unhappy, or make it happy. Jesus Christ said, “By your words you will be condemned,” and “death and life are in the power of the tongue”.

Your spoken word is the power to change undesirable circumstances.

Because you know that your spoken word has this power to make or unmake your life, you know that it is wise to think before you speak. Words are thoughts expressed. In this light, you are aware that this is the Law of Attraction at work.

Through the speaking of your word, you are literally moving Substance. Most of all, you are making a definite, although seemingly imperceptible difference within yourself and upon the condition of your body and your life. (Refer to the author’s book, The Secret of Multiplied Money.)

That is why there is specific benefit to you when you consciously and deliberately make positive declarations by using the positive prayers (affirmations) in this book.

Listen to the words you speak. Make sure they conform to that which is positive and life enhancing. Declare only that

which you definitely want to see demonstrated in your life. Right words make your life more enjoyable in every way. They make it happier, more successful, and more prosperous.

A woman who was experiencing financial deprivation (of her own making) used the following Positive Prayer:

I like money and money likes me. It loves to circulate freely in my life, and is doing so now!

Very soon, her finances straightened out and money began flowing to her from every direction. Later, she met a kind, wealthy man and they eventually married. It certainly paid this woman to speak that Positive Prayer!

Positive speaking precedes positive living. Declare, with feeling, that which is true, and it will be established unto you. As you speak words of Truth, accept them as true for you now. Thus you, and your life, become that which you speak.

Emmet Fox wrote: “Everything you decree you get. All the trouble in your life you have ordered at some time by misusing this power (spoken word), so watch your words, and do not affirm anything that you do not want to have come to pass.” (The Science of Living)

One time, a young lady called to tell me that she was intending to end her life. After we talked for a while, I asked her to speak the following Positive Prayer with me:

There is nothing to fear. God is love and God is here. (Refer to the author’s book, Rev. John’s Divine Love Plan.)

Hesitant, at first, she haltingly spoke this Truth. I asked her to speak it several times. Soon her voice changed as she relaxed and began to realize that life is worth living and things would work out okay. They did in a wonderful way, as she later told me.

It should be clear. Positive Prayer, the declaration of affirmations of Truth, creates a healthy body, life and affairs. It is the sensible approach to living the life God intends for

you to live. Speak good words and life will be good. Moreover, it will be wonderful!

The Purpose of Prayer

Your words, when they are spoken with understanding, expand your consciousness of the Presence of God. That is the primary purpose of prayer because when you are truly conscious of Divine Spirit as present within you, you are aware of every good and needful thing as also present.

It is better to not pray for things, but rather to lift your mind above wants so that you may become conscious of the Presence of God. In other words, let every desire be a leading into the greater realization of God, and your desires will be fulfilled.

Too often, when someone prays, they are so focused on lack, or their needs, it inhibits their ability to truly connect with God. God is always the answer. That is why the true desire of every soul is to unite with God.

Jesus said, “With God all things are possible.” By this He meant to consciously unite with God and then your thinking and feeling become the avenue through which God’s abundance flows into your life. Even the seemingly impossible becomes possible. God’s idea of providing for you is greater than what you may have in mind. Therefore, it makes good sense to get with God, to rise into conscious oneness with Him. That is the true purpose of prayer.

If you want to correct some situation in your life, then it is imperative that you release negative or doubtful feelings before you begin to pray for the correction to take place. Otherwise, that undercurrent of doubt will keep the better situation from manifesting for you.

It is never because God withholds, but because you let wrong thinking and feeling block your good. Clinging to a failed relationship will do the same thing.

Even Positive Prayer, as good and powerful as it is, may be ineffective in correcting a situation in the presence of doubt and negativity. However, speaking a positive statement of Truth over and over, with feeling, can override negativity.

If you have believed that God withholds His love or provision from you, change that belief! It is His good pleasure to give to His children. This includes you!

The best way to cause God’s vast, unlimited good to flow copiously into your life, is to use the power of your spoken word. This means to use the Positive Prayers in this book. They cover just about every aspect of life.

The Positive Prayers in this book are written in the present tense. This means that they are true now. (Refer to the author’s book, NOW Power!)

It is important to affirm that your good is yours now. Claim and accept it with gratitude and it will manifest in your life in due time and in divine order. But it will always be now when it comes.

In your busy day, allow time for quiet prayer, especially affirmative or positive prayer. Just a few minutes works wonders! Take one or two of the Positive Prayers in Part Two into the silence and meditate on them. Do this by quietly affirming it a few times as you relax and become still. This practice is simply amazing. That is because it leads you into conscious oneness with God. And that is the true purpose of prayer.

Prayer gives you personal power for living life positively and abundantly. Through positive prayer, which truly connects you with the Source, you become a radiating center of love, an irresistible magnet that attracts to you, your heart’s desires and makes your life beautiful and fulfilled.

Through prayer, you let out the greatness, aliveness, divine ideas, and infinite love of God that is always within

you. Thus, through you, God blesses you, and the entire world. Positive Prayer is the highest and best spiritual activity you could possibly use. Use it and enjoy the blessed results!

Positive Prayer allows you to become intimately in tune with God, The Great Positive. As you do, you fulfill the purpose of prayer and the grand purpose of living.

The Power of Positive Prayer

The real Power of Prayer is Energy. The whole Universe

is made up of energy. In truth, energy is all there is. When scientist Carl Sagan presented his Cosmos series on Public Television, he said that in all their scientific explorations and research into the cosmos, the final analysis was: There is just one stuff.

That one “stuff” is God, and God is energy. There is only one and it is absolute good. It is perfect because it is Love. If this were not so, it could not be depended upon. There would be no order to anything in the Universe.

It was this same energy into which Jesus spoke his word when he healed the sick, caused the blind to see, multiplied the loaves and fishes, and fed thousands of people. His keen awareness of the power of this One Energy enabled Him to perform miracles. Jesus knew the power of the spoken word. He knew that He could speak His word and it would move energy. He said, the things he did, we could do, and greater things. It depends upon our understanding, the power we give our spoken word, and our awareness of this all-pervading, all-powerful, all-providing Love-energy we call God. It is to your benefit to become intimately acquainted with this energy because it is the true essence of our being and of all that is. This is done through prayer and meditation, which allows for divine energy to enrich the thought-stuff of our mind, and move it out into your life. It frees you from lack and limitation, filling your consciousness with the vastness of omnipresent supply.

This great Love-energy is yours to use as you will to make your life what you desire it to be. As I wrote in my book, Power Words for Prosperous Living, “You can make your life miserable or marvelous. It is up to you.” Make sure your words are positive for then they create positive, enjoyable forms.

In using Positive Prayers it is, of course, powerful for you, but it is just as powerful to use them for others. Do this by using “you.” Speaking the Truth for others immeasurably helps them. Joining with a prayer partner, or with others in speaking these positive prayers as a group, using “we” “us”, etc., increases the effectiveness of this amazing spiritual practice. Together, you draw forth this great mystical energy that seems to magnify with numbers. “When two or more are gathered together and agree upon a thing, it will be done unto them.”

As you speak your positive words, remember that this great spiritual energy knows only one time, now! It is always present, ready, and waiting for your word.

As good and powerful as Positive Prayer is, it is not a substitute for meditation in which you relax and consciously unify with God within. God is your magnificent Love-Energy. Use positive prayers to lead you into the Silence where you commune with God. Ever seek to know and feel your unity with this Powerful Presence. This will enhance your declarations of Truth, quicken God-Energy within you and cause it to manifest more magnificently in your life.

Now turn to Part Two, choose and speak one or more Positive Prayers, and feel the Power. As you do, something is happening. The Power is flowing. The desires of your heart are being fulfilled. Go for it with all your heart!

I speak the Truth about

God’s abundance. God’s

good is infinite and always

where I am. I think in it,

live in it, and enjoy it now!
