It is an exciting time to be a part of our Boys & Girls Club and it showed that night. I shared some facts with the group that I would like to share with you. Each Day in America 16,244 students are suspended, 3,617 children are arrested, and 2,857 high school students drop out! I believe we have great kids that have great potential, but they don’t always have the opportunities to help them reach that potential. The Club provides those opportunities. The participants that attended our event are helping us provide those opportunities, the grants we receive are helping us provide those opportunities, and every donor we have is helping us provide those opportunities. We have data that proves members who attend the Club two or more times a week skip fewer days of school, feel more connected to school and have greater post-secondary aspirations. High school aged Club members report a reduction in high risk behaviors, such as smoking, drinking alcohol and having sex, than do their non- Club counterparts. The Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri is making a difference with kids in our community and you are helping with this mission. THANK YOU! -Rhonda

Letter from the Executive Director I hope everyone is enjoying your fall season! It is the season to be thankful. That being said I would like to give a special thank you to our Resource Committee for putting on the greatest Club Comingo ever! With their help we funded a lot of futures for kids. It takes a great team to get things done and that is exactly what we had, a GREAT TEAM! Staff Spotlight

Mackenzie Sams Mackenzie is a Junior at

Missouri Southern State

University. He plans on majoring in

Kinesiology. Mackenzie is the Gym

Coordinator at the Joplin

Facility. The Gym is where

members learn about teamwork,

sportsmanship and healthy habits!

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at the club? A: Getting to interact with kids at the club! Q: What is your favorite game to play in the gym? A: Indoor soccer. The kids get plenty of exercise when we play! Q: What is your favorite food to eat at thanksgiving? A: My favorite is ham!

TEEN GARAGE SALE

The teens worked very hard to

plan their garage sale fundraiser.

Fifteen of our teens decided to

work on a day they could have

stayed home, raising money for

their end of year trip. They

learned a valuable lesson on

being organized and prepared for

anything when it came to putting

on the event. We asked teen

member Brayden K. what he

thought about the event. “It was

crazy, there were so many people

at the sale.” During the event

teens were in charge of pricing

and handling money, using their

math skills, and learning how to

negotiate. The teens initially set a

goal to raise $500. They actually

raised over $1,500! Nice work!

COMINGO UPDATE

Thank you to all of our sponsors and guests

who supported us at Club Comingo! It was a

great event and a lot of fun. In the end we

raised over $57,000 to support the futures of

our kids! We look forward to continuing our

mission of enabling all young people,

especially those who need us most, to reach

their full potential as productive, caring,

responsible citizens because of YOU!

Our Wish List Can you help us out? We asked our Coordinators what they needed for their rooms and this is what they came up with!
