You Can Do It! Great Students The following students will receive their awards at assembly this Friday in the MP Room at 3pm.
Everyone is welcome. This week’s students are from F/1 Halliwell.
Welcome Back:
I would like to welcome all of our families, students and staff back to another school year. I hope that
everyone enjoyed their break. To all of our new families, I would like to welcome you to the Portland Primary
community, and wish you and your children a wonderful educational journey. I would also like to welcome
Mrs Vicki Wakely to our staff; she will be working in the Foundation/1 room this year.
It has been fantastic to see everyone in uniform and wearing their school hats for the start of the year. I
have been visiting classrooms throughout the past week, and I have been very impressed with the level of
enthusiasm that students have been displaying. The first week is our Learning How to Learn program. Classes
Diesel is a great
student because he
demonstrates many of
our school values,
such as cooperating
with others during
group work and
always participating in
all activities. He also
shows respect for
others by listening and
not interrupting. Diesel
has shown good
leadership skills by
setting good
examples for the new
grade preps and by
being prepared to
help the grade preps
when they are unsure
or confused about
something.
Well done Diesel,
great start to the year.
Kady is a great student this week. She has
settled into school really well and is showing our
school values. She participates in all activities. She
shows respect by taking turns and sharing our
equipment.
Great start to your first year at school Kady.
Molly is a great
student this week.
She has settled
into her first year at
school really well
and is
demonstrating our
school values. She
shows respect by
taking turns,
listening and
sharing our
equipment. She
participates in all
activities and
takes pride in what
she does.
Great start to your
first year at school
Molly.
are setting their expectations for the year, discussing why we come to school, how we best set ourselves up
for success and much more.
School Fees:
Our school fees for 2014 will remain at $180 per student. This is payable now. Invoices will go home to
families over the next few days. Your child’s fees are important, as they cover the costs associated with
providing the best education for our children. They cover costs such as books, classroom supplies, resources
and much more. Please pay your fees at your earliest convenience. You can pay by cash at the office or
by internet banking:
Education Maintenance Allowance:
Anyone holding a Health Care Card is still entitled to Education Maintenance Allowance.
Forms are at the Office to be filled in. You can still sign them over to the school to pay for your fees. It is a
different process now where if you don’t tick to have it signed over to the school the school doesn’t receive
any of this payment which means you will have to come in and pay fees.

POW WOW TIME Grade P/1, 1/2/3 and 3/ 4 got together on Friday for a pow-wow. The session was based around
the book ‘More Pants’. Not only did we read the pictures and laugh at the pictures, we danced
to the text that was presented in rap style, reggae style, folk style, disco and rock.
After reading and dancing, the children got together in groups to decorate and describe their
own pants.
‘More Pants’ is a great
story about all sorts of
pants – red pants,
green pants, yellow
submarine pants!!! All the groups worked really hard on
decorating their pants and coming up
with fantastic describing words to
match!!
All the children are thinking
mime ‘hilarious’! James
Heaney defined ‘hilarious’
as very, very funny!
Toby and Tadgh are
enjoying the story.
Montannah, Amber, Riley, Sam and
Shontae are working on their pants.
Don’t they look colourful!
Great pants Montannah!!
Lewwis, Maddison, Tadgh, James
Jaiden and Noah have done a great
job on their pants. Now they have to
describe them.
This group is hard at work
decorating their pants.
Violet, Freya, Madeleine and
Tahlia are working together.
