A twisted staircase creates perplexity and

also allows 360 degree viewing conditions

for the subjects situated in the middle.

Staircase also encourages subjects to consicously engage in the

change of vantage point and invites them to sit down and observe.

Moreover, Staircase has the quality of both stage and stand, on which the subject

becomes the performer and the viewer at the same time according to dierent reference frames.

The staircase make of transparent materials

enables the transition of viewing/being viewed of a subject.

The goal was to create a structural and interactive surace and light ltering device through the re-appropriation o

lters, while preserving the delicate and sensual qualities o the material. On one side the surace appears to be sot

The site was once densly populated, as the

decreasing industrial acilities around the

neighborhood, nowadays it becomes vacantand is orgotten. This project aims to reactivate

this area through an art center which curates

both the artworks and the visitors experience.

An abstract eld condition was created a

superimposition o various mappings o the

site, multiple thresholds were extracted rom

the eld and urthermore transormed into

programmatic and ormal language. The art

center employs herb planting as a catalyst that

activates diferent programs at diferent time

o a day and across seasons; and the plant-

ing strategy also organizes the architecture

ormally.

Shifting HybridsTransformations for a New Hotel & Residential Building in TriBeCa . NYC

This building is designed to become a microcosm of

the Tribeca Area, and to reect the sophistication of

the neighborhood. A cohesive architectural language is

employed formally and programmatically. The building

exhibits a uid ow from the exterior facade to the interior

partitions; and a continuous experience of spaces as

people moving from one area to another. The typology

of residential oor plans is broken by inserting different

public programs and allowing them to carve out the oor

plates. These public areas, either quiet or vibrant, will

serve the residents and hotel guests, and will also invitevisitors from all over the city.
