Cover Letter

Kevin L. DenLinger, LeeD APIntroductionI am Kevin Denlinger and am interested in an architecture position with Stephanie Goto. I feel I would be a good fit with your firm based on the description in your post. With my 4+ years of professional architecture experience and a master of architecture degree, I have developed an ambition for architecture, as well as a self-motivated work ethic that would benefit any firm’s goals. My professional experience covers the entirety of the architectural design process from client contracts to construction administration and my friendly personality allows me to adapt quickly to diverse environments. Working both independently, and in a team on projects as large as a 2 million sq. meter development in Tokyo, as culturally significant as a 15th century crusader museum in London, and as intimate as a single family condo in Manhattan, my diverse experience provides me with a strong foundation in the practice of architecture. I am prepared to start any phase of a project with confidence and familiarity and my technical and drafting abilities [Autocad, Vectorworks, Archicad] are strong. I have created and worked on multiple DD and CD sets and know how to compose these critical documents within a set of guidelines. Furthermore, I respond positively to, and welcome a challenge and I am looking for an office atmosphere that embodies this mentality.

I graduated with my Master of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati and participated in the Co-op program for 6 years. I am looking for the full-time position as described in your post and am available for in-person and phone interviews immediately. Salary and benefits can be discussed at that time.

I currently live in the NYC area and please feel free to request my full portfolio, technical drawing samples or more general information by calling 513. 310. 9099, leaving a message at www.A-DFactory.com, or send me an email at [email protected].

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards,

Kevin Denlinger, LEED AP

Design Brief:ENYA Competition proposal for a new cultural arts center injected the program into and below the iconic High Bridge Aqueduct. It works with the bridge in a mutually beneficial relationship, without disrupting the existing infrastructure to maintain the integrity of the icon and provides room to expand the overall center’s presence in the eyes of the observer.

Role:Designer Autocad, Maya, Laser Cutter, 3D Printer

Design Brief:A 30 story mixed-use project in downtown Chicago. As a methodology, I observed the hierarchical structure of living systems - specifically the human body - to inform the design process from its smallest components. Like human genes, and through aspects of some newer computer programs, I explored what happens when you change small variables in the design. Using Maya’s scripting capabilities, I programmed the building blocks [cells] of the building and through a stochastic algorithm, generated the environmentally responsive form. Embedded within each cell is the hard and soft information that we associate with home and social living environments including Ken Yeang’s vertical theory on high-rise planning and design.

Role:Draftsman Detailing, CD

Design Brief:CD phase for large scale, high-end condo tower in Las Vegas. Three separate style kits - traditional, transitional, modern - were designed so that a client could select any style and apply it to their new unit. This provided a challenge to design a base case that would accommodate each of the three styles.

Design Brief:The museum for the Order of St. John encapsulates over 900 years of history in the Priory of St. John’s 15th century gatehouse located in Clerkenwell, London. The underlying goal of the project is to tell the complex narrative of the OSJ in a comprehensive and structured manner. By carefully arranging the museum objects within the renovated existing structure, the objects are allowed to tell the story of the order in a series of layers - each one adding complexity to the experience - so the visitor will ‘learn’ in manageable increments. I was the primary designer for the project and was responsible for the submission set for project funding. It was approved for funding and is currently progressing through the next phase.

Role:Designer, DraftsmanDesign Development, Form-Z

Design Brief:

Over 2 million square foot retail infill in a larger mixed use high-rise development. The design revolved around a series of courtyards - tree, flower, water - that added a slightly different feel to the otherwise uniform space between buildings. I worked on renderings and the design development documents, which were then coordinated with the Japanese architect of record.
