  • Description:A two sided folding brochure advertising the company Fruity Green Smoothies.Programs:Adobe InDesign/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe PhotoshopDate: March 26th, 2014Course: Comm 130 Instructor: Bro. Kerr

Objectives: Set up and align a folded document with a front and back in Adobe InDesign.Learn how to apply paragraph styling.Wrap text around an image.

Process: First I placed the images in Indesign. For the text wrapping part I chose to do it around the vegetable heart image. I used the quick selection tool in Adobe Photoshop to remove the background of the image. I then used the refine mask dialogue box to smooth, feather, and apply contrast to the outline of the heart. I then placed the heart image into InDesign where I used the text wrap option to wrap my text around the alpha channel of the image. Lastly, I applied paragraph styling.

Process: I first put all the correct tags in the HTML document so that everything would appear correctly and validate correctly. I then inserted my image, which was my logo resized in Photoshop. I then connected the HTML and a CSS document.I used the color Hex code in Photoshop by using the eyedropper tool.

  • Description:Three logo variations for a specific company. Programs: Adobe IllustratorDate: February 21, 2014Course: Comm 130 Instructor: Bro. Kerr

Objectives: Design three logos for a company.Use basic tools in Illustrator.

Process: I started by first making a few sketches. I started by working with the convert anchor tool and changed the lines on the cup. After that I messed with the line tool and shape tool and made the limes. I decided that I liked that look the best and made that the dominant logo image. When making the little leaf I made a circle and then had to change it with the convert anchor tool. It was kind of fun seeing what could be done with the pen tool and convert anchor tool.

  • MontageDescription: Created by masking two or more photos and then including typography.Programs: Adobe PhotoshopDate: February 15thCourse: Comm 130 Instructor: Bro. Kerr

Objectives: Understand how to bring in images to Photoshop.Learn how to apply a mask. How to blend more than two images to appear as one without sharp edges.

Process: First I decided what I wanted the main photo to be and looked through my photos to locate it. I brought it up in Photoshop and changed the sizing, cropping and resolution. I then brought in the blue-sky im-age and added a mask as to blend the bridal photo with the blue sky. After that I brought in the flow-ers and rotated the image. Lasty I added a mask in hopes of blending the top two photos with the bottom image.

  • Description: A black and white flier advertising an upcoming Graduate Leadership Conference.Programs: Adobe InDesignDate: January 25th, 2014Course: Comm 130Instructor: Bro. Kerr

Objectives:Use design techiniques including typography, flow, and contrast.Use the basic InDesign tools to improve the flier.Create a project folder with all the images, and the InDesign document.

Process: I started to form the basic layout in Adobe InDesign. I enlarged the word Leadership, which is what I wanted the main focal point to be. I then created some flow by arranging the words of the title so that ones eyes would eventually end up on the right side of the page leading them to the logo. The swipe behind the Logo leads them to the photo, first to the girl and then to the guy who is looking to the right, which leads the eyes over to the words. I made the most important information, the date, time and location of the event, near the top so people couldnt miss it.

  • Description: A full-bleed event ad promoting a classiccar showcase where the proceeds go to the Senior Center.Programs: Microsoft Publishing LayoutDate: January 31, 2014Course: Comm 130 Instructor: Bro. Kerr

Objectives: Experiment using Microsoft Publishing layout. Create a full bleed event ad using an appropriate color scheme and all the required information.

Process: First, I found an image in a Hot Rod magazine and scanned it. I then used Word to create the flier. I added a filter on the image increasing the saturation of the photo. Then I chose a color scheme that would attract the right crowd and flow with the photo. I chose gray, dark gray and blue. I found a font that has an old classic kind of look, nothing modern. I really enjoyed this activity and because I know more about Word than I do about the Adobe programs, I felt more confident when doing it. In the future I would feel confident using it again.

  • Description: A project experimenting with lighting, contrast and composition.Programs: Adobe PhotoshopDate: February 4, 2014Course: Comm 130Instructor: Br. Kerr

Objectives: Learn the basics photography skills.Understand the three elements; light, focus, and composition.

Process: For this image, I tried really hard to get the camera to focus on the temple. The blue sky was so brillant that day I knew I wanted the sky to be a big part of the image. I brought it into Photoshop and then sharpened up the edges and also increased the saturation and vibrance.

  • Description:A business card using a matching logo and all the contact information.Programs: Adobe Illustrator / Adobe PhotoshopDate: March 1. 2014Course: Comm 130Instructor: Br. Kerr

Objectives: Using the basic rules of design, create a two-sided business card that matches the letterhead. Include all the contact information.

Process: First thing I did was I made the square shape of the card and then put a circle over it for a half sun. After that I ungrouped them and made them all separate shapes. I deleted the other half of the circle. After that I included a gradient for the red and yellow color on the cards. I hope it would appear as a sunrise, following after the name of the company, Sunrise Residential Treatment Center. I wanted there to be repetition with the sun and the title so I included smaller suns on the edge of the card.

  • Description: A business letterheadPrograms: Adobe Illustrator/ Adobe InDesignDate: March 1, 2014Course: Comm 130Instructor: Br. Kerr

Objectives: Create multiple logos, and use one of them for a letterhead for the company. Follow all the basic design rules.

Process: I knew I wanted to use the rising sun in the letterhead. I wanted the eyes to flow over to the address so I used the sun again on the top of the page and on the bottom. After everything looked the way I wanted it to both on the letterhead and on the business cards, I moved the designs over to InDesign, and made sure they were in the right location.
