DESCRIPTION: An event fundraiser ad using color in full-bleed, using only Microsoft Word.
PROGRAMS: Microsoft Word
DATE: February 1, 2014
COURSE: COMM 130-02
INSTRUCTOR: Caryn Esplin
OBJECTIVES: Create a flier using micrsoft office. This is something many employers will request because this is the most common software that businesses have.
PROCESS: I scanned a 4 by 6 photo. Self-taken photograph. Original printed size 4 by 6. Scanned at 300 resolution so it could be used as a full page image if desired. Epson perfection V300 Photo. I inserted it into Word. I made different shaped boxes for the background, pulling out colors from the photo. Then to add contrast I used a split complimentary color scheme, as well as put a white stroke on the boxes to make them pop more. I also aligned the white lines with the stronger lines within the picture. Also for the title font, I tried to find a font the mimicked the font on the Live Bait box in the picture. For my type, I used the same font just in contrasting weights.

DESCRIPTION: Construct a two sided brochure, that folds.
PROGRAMS: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
DATE: March 29, 2014
COURSE: COMM 130-02
INSTRUCTOR: Caryn Esplin
OBJECTIVES: Create a brochure of something that we are interested. I wanted to keep it compact so you can take it on the go as you are handed information. It will slip right into your pocket.
PROCESS: I used InDesign for the bulk of the project. The logo image was created in Illustrator. Two images were put into photoshop and edited using the selection process. I then saved the selection and refined the edges to give the image a cleaner look. I then placed in the InDesign file. A text wrap was then placed around these two images so they could both reside on the same flap (white bird & flower). I used the shape tool in InDesign to construct the brochure. Using Alt+Drag I was able to copy the shapes and keep them in the same dimensions. All of the photos were taking at the beaches mentioned, by myself. I made them a full bleed on there respective folds to emphasize the sights and details of Florida, and making the best use of the space available. For the text I used the shape tool to duplicate the same shape and then turned it into a type path area so the text would fill the hexagon shape really well.

DESCRIPTION: A montage made of two or more images with text.

OBJECTIVES: Convey that it is through imperfection that the light of God shines through. Use two or more images using masking and layers in photoshop to make a montage. Use at least one filter.
PROCESS: I selected a background that fit with the title and made sure it was cropped to the right size to fit 8.5 x 11. Then I selected the image of a man I felt embodied the message as well. I selected him out of a picture, with a 20px feather. After moving him onto the background I applied a mask. I then changed my opacity and painted black to bring the background through, so it blends well into the scene. I also adjusted the vibrance on the images to bring out their color. I masked a black box on top of the image to make the edges darker and to emphasize the light in the picture. On the title I added a drop shadow and a bevel. On the body copy I added a drop shadow and an opaque, feathered box to make it easier to read.

PROGRAMS: Illustrator
DATE: March 1, 2014
COURSE: COMM 130-02
INSTRUCTOR: Caryn Esplin
OBJECTIVES: Create a business card. Use an image. Use a new, original logo. Include all important contact information.
PROCESS: I used Adobe illustrator for this project. For the stitching I used the pen tool and the shape tool and converted the stroke into a dash. For the indigo shape I used the pen tool. The pen tool was also used for the needle and thread, and the thread on the spool. I used the pathfinder tool to make the needle into its own shape. I used the shape tool to create the ends for the spool of thread and the button. I also used a gradient on the inside of the button holes. I added a light indigo drop shadow at the bottom of the indigo shape.

DESCRIPTION: A black and white flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.
PROGRAMS: InDesign
DATE: January 25, 2014
COURSE: COMM 130-02
INSTRUCTOR: Caryn Esplin
OBJECTIVES: To reach recent graduates who want to have a competitive edge in business. As well, graduates that have a desire to gain essential leadership skills and how they will benefit from this conference.
PROCESS: I was given images and logos for this flier. With these in mind I made sketches on paper of potential designs. Then I transferred my favorite layout into InDesign. I used two different fonts for contrast and emphasis in the title. I used those same fonts in the body for repetition. I used dots, to keep things a little more fun, that gradually fade into the title and at the bottom into the companies logo. The picture I choose helps draw your eye back to the description of the conference. I also used contrasting black boxes and white fonts to emphasize the main idea behind the conference, and it’s location.

DESCRIPTION: Make three variations of a logo.
PROGRAMS: Illustrator
DATE: February 23, 2014
COURSE: COMM 130-02
INSTRUCTOR: Caryn Esplin
OBJECTIVES: Photography done by Brynja represented in logo form. These logos are also designed with elements that would be used for a watermark.
PROCESS: These were all made in illustrator. I used the shape tool to make the camera, using the ellipses tool and the rectangle tool. I also used the star tool to make a flash on the second logos camera. I also turned my text into outlines so I could manipulate certain parts. I did this especially on the third logo to extend the B outward, and to slant the serifs on the rest of the name.

OBJECTIVES: We can all do small things with great love. Even the tiniest of creatures can do small things showing great love. Make a photodesign project incorportating an original image. Find a color scheme from the image and include it in the design process.
PROCESS: I captured a few different photos with color schemes I thought would be good using the color wheel. I decided on this photo, and a split complimentary color scheme of purple, lime, and red. I used my NikonD5100 to capture the photo. I then did some basic edits in Photoshop to add vibrance to the colors and emphasize them even more than in the original photo. When picking my colors I used the eyedropper to pick an area I thought had good representation and adjusted the color from there. For this project I also added the colors into the design, and had them flowing out from the pedal. I used the box shape as a

DESCRIPTION: A webpage to display a logo I created.
PROGRAMS: Notepad ++, Illustrator
DATE: March 15, 2014
COURSE: COMM 130-02
INSTRUCTOR: Caryn Esplin
OBJECTIVES: Learn basic html and css coding. Use this skills to make a webpage to display an original logo design.
PROCESS: I created this webapage using Notepad ++. I had only very lightly worked with some coding before this project. I really enjoyed the challenge of learning different html and css codes. It is really a neat experience to create something from just numbers and letters. I created the html document from scratch and entered in all of my information. We were provided with a basic css sheet to start with. I changed some things around, especially fonts and colors to go along with my logo. I could copy the colors from my logo by using the eyedropper tool available to the Adobe Suite. I used a float to put text up by my logo so you are drawn into the logo, but then can start reading as soon as you are ready without having to scroll down right away.
