Project Type-Professional

The HamamWhite Clove - The abode of tranquility

This View shows the Hamam from the entrance. The basement which was dug upand made in an existing hotel building was a very challenging space as it was not a planned basement and had various levels. The hamam had a lot of natural light through the side entrance.

The space was done up in a very mediterranean style. The walls were rough finished in pop and niches with strong yellow lighting were provided to create a centre of interest right opposite to the entrance.. The wall was floating and was underlit to give a very light feel to the place.

To one side of the hamam, facilities such as massage rooms, steam bath sauna bath and toilets were provided. These rooms were visually seperated yet connected to the main area with a wooden screen. The monotony of the white color was broken by using wenge wood in the massage rooms.

To make the place more soothing and calm, the area next to the hamam was done in white. Some loungers were also placed next to it. The floor also had white tiles being punctured by floor lights randomly.

Project Brief-To Create an exhibition of Light in a gallery using light as a medium where the visitors can experience the journey of their senses and emotions from the state of Discomfort to the state of Hope.

These pictures show the kind of mood intended to be created

state of discomfort state of hope

In life, the person feels discomfort whether it is physical or emotional and hopes to feel relieved. In this project, we related the discom-fort to a lack of a certain energy point in the human body, the chakras. The idea is to create hope with chromotherapy. We focused on the fact that people transfer energies when they a re around each other. The symbolic and conceptual transfer of energy, translated with colored light, moves from one "pool" to the other according to each person's need allowing the visitors to be submerged in the color light that they need most to regain positive energy.

This sketch shows the transfer of energy between the humans. The color depicts the color of the light pool in which the person is standing.

The gallery is very vibrant and will give every visitor a reason to visit. To achieve this, we designed the whole gallery in a way that people can see the transfer of energy from one person to another. At the entrance, is the information area wherein the visitor can find out his energy levels and know which one is weak and where he needs to go after entering the gallery. The energy levels will be found out by answering a series of questions about oneself and by figuring out the reactions of o neself in various situations.

This View shows the main entrance of the museum. The visitors after entering scan their enery levels by answering a couple of questions about their personalities on the touch screens on the left side.

The ceiling and the floor of the exhibition hall were painted black and the walls in stone. The room is lit in white and on the floor are the circles which have designated numbers and are highlighted with floor lights.

The idea is to surround the person in the pool of colored light that his body needs the most. Keeping in mind the idea, the person is drowned in the pool of light formed by the tubes and the floor light. All this enables the human to absorb the needed color from the pool and feel better. Once the show is over, the whole room lights up in white light which gives hope.

Each circle is a recipient of one particular color but a sender of all 6 colors. This is done by connecting the circles with LED strips through the ceiling. The tubes run through the ceiling overlapping various other tubes and drops down from the ceiling near the human to the respective height of the same colored chakra in his body.

evolution of DNA

The design unfolds as a cohesion of metaphor of the thriving DNA. The concept was to interpret the fragility of the transparent structure. Proposed combination of thermo electric surfaces in combination with optical color changing glass would take this concept one step further when built.

The relatively narrow constrictions as transition spaces between the 3 globules stand metaphorically as visual suggestions of stages in an immigrant’s life in fulfillment of his dream.

Like a cocoon nourishes the embryonic form in nature, each bubble structure of this built system is designed as a self contained energy efficient unit. The basic transparent composition wraps into what generates maximum surface area for photovoltaic operation. This energy will be used for the thermoelectric and optical light simulations which is an integral part of the changing facade design. Special structural transparency fused with solar power generating cells will form the major surface component. An interior lattice module as structural support will allow controlled operation of a double facade system. It would permit natural ventilation to partake in the air exchange process for the entire facility.

The museum is designed in three public planes. The entry level is connected via the bridge connecting 5th avenue and the pier. The entrance boardwalk directly engulfs the audience with a view of the entire eloquence. Museum functions, permanent exhibit areas and information lobby are designed entwining the double height spaces looking below to the library level and that of the cafetaria deck above. Administrative functions below and other services split between the other two levels are accessed by ramps circulating around the bubble structure.

The Design Cafe‘Lined’ for Mondadori

Project Brief-To create a physical space and a communication system that gathers the main values of all Mondadori’s brand. The Design Cafe should be able to be setup into more spaces.

Project Type-Academic

Client-Mondadori Design Cafe, Milan, Italy.

A space which propagates the values of Mondadori like branches of a tree reaching out to every corner with one line forming shelves, seating and event space of the café. The whole structure being suspended from the ceiling has inbuilt lights and touch screens to access the older editions of the design magazines. It targets to become a resource of innovative ideas for designer professionals and students.

This View shows how the whole cafe is made from the wood. Each module is like a branch of a tree which originates and forms book shelves, cafe tables and seatings. The design of the cafe was inspired by ‘Lagostina’. The whole contraption is suspended from the ceiling and is portable. As per the requirement of the client, temporary structures can be made and installed at public spaces.

The idea behind planning of this space was to create a meeting area for the design professionals and to create an ambience for them to hold casual meetings. The cafe was also proposed to be interactive. The visitors chave access to all kinds of magazines and books by Mondadori by the interactive displays which willl also guide them to the location of the required books on the specific shelves. The whole space is visually connected, hence, can also be used as event space.

to diagnose the city’s componentpieces and to assess their condition. A visual survey was conducted to examine its composition, evaluate its assets and liabilities and to see where the city needs re-shaping.It was discovered that a major commercial development had happened at the DSC road periphery and which resulted in severe encroachments on the road and a major organic development. After the surveys, a basemap map and a landuse map of the existing area was created.

Bath-roomXpositions

The concept came from the observation that business people are always living with some sort of CHAOS and daily pressure when they are traveling. Therefore the main objective is to provide them with PEACE in the room. To reach this goal, idea of providing “universal” relaxation positions was used. The occupant of the X positions room can chose the position of work, sitting and resting, based on their own tastes and habits. This room creates a memory to its visitor due to the innovative body conscious design.

These renders show the view of the room from different angles. Considering the fact that the room is in a business hotel, it was provided with some fluidity which gives some kind of a rhythmic movement to the whole ambience. This completely takes care of the feeling of loneliness. When one gets back to the room, he finds a lot of things to explore within his whole space and this also helps him divert his mind from work.
