camialti dockyardLOCATION: Golden Horn, IstanbulTIME: 2008TYPE: Master Studio ITAGS: Industrial landscape, cultural heritage, urban design
Golden Horn used to be the industrial center of Istanbul since Ottoman times. After the dockyards have been moved to a further distirict two decade ago, two of the three dockyards locating in Golden Horn has been inoperated and the structures are left over. whereas one of them is still actively in use.
During the times it was actively used, Camialti Dockyard was not only a production area, it was
also a living place where the more than 500 workers and their families used to live. Therefore it was a socially important place as well. From clothes to food eerything was supplied in the dockyard for the small population.
The aim of the project is to suggest a new usage that both the neighboorhood and the rising cultural events of Golden Horn can utilize.

The design of the project is inspired by the production line that operated in the dockyard. From receiving the goods to the leaving ships the production process in the dockyards has a certain discipline and flow. It is this flow that characterizes the mechanism. The main idea of the project came up with duplicating these lines as undulating in order to emphasize the former structure of the dockyard. In total design there are six of the lines each represents a different function. This main structure connects the dockyard area with the two points in the sea coast, takes the visitor into a story telling the history and functionism of dockyard as well as the industry prevailed in the Golden Horn area. Thus the flow includes open exhibitio structures, green areas and commerce units in a way that all of them become a part of a whole.

The competition announced by the chamber of architects Ankara branch for master students aimed to be designed for the Kizilay Square, the most central square of capital Ankara. It has a symbolic meaning since it is the first square built in Ankara as a part of the administration building complex. It has been a critical public space since the establishment of Turkish Republic. Thought to be on the one hand the catalyst and on the other
hand the stage of social movements of a period, Kızılay Square has turned to a junction where the pedestrians are intended to be got out and vehicles are motivated to pass faster by the spatial implementations, new traffic orders and legal prohibitions. The aim of the project is to provide a new concept that enables the square to become a socially functional place again.

When existing conditions are examined, the fragmentation of the square is observed. Therefore the porposed concept initially aimed to provide an integration in terms of greenery and function. We assumed the square as a protoganist of the city, thus and legal prohibitions. The aim of the project is to provide a new concept that enables the square to become a socially functional place again.
Existing green space has been analyzed and the fragmentation occured in the past decade aimed to be recovered within a conscious plantation. Since the neighboorhood is suitable for bikeroutes a new program has been offered in order to weaken the traffic jam and the domination of cars. The square itself has been conceived as the start point for this new program of the city and spead all over the city later.
