  • FLIER

Description:Visual Media black and white flier project, promoting a leadership conference for graduates.

    Date:1/24/15

    Course/InstructorComm 130 Section 06Joel Judkins

    Programs:Indesign

Objectives:Learn the importance of creating a focal point and direct it appropriately. I learned how sketching your ideas create a greater flow of ideas.

Process:I first created a sketch in order to create a flow of ideas. Even though final result was totally different I followed the main ideas of my sketch. I created a mesh background so it will give contrast to the tittle and logo. I gave it a curve cut to give my flier more flow and create a focal point.

  • BROCHURE

Description:A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.

    Date:3/28/15

    Course/InstructorComm 130 Section 06Joel Judkins

    Programs:Adobe InDesign/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:Create and design a brochure using the elements of design.

Process:I first created the logo in Illustrator later I copy it in Photoshop and put it in front of two different images. I pasted my Photoshop image with some fake lights I added in Indesign. After that I created a model in paper in order to find the measurements I wanted to plug into my Indesign canvas. After I got the measurements I created the guides for my duplex brochure. I then pasted the images and my body copy into the brochure following the guides so I wouldnt have to print it many times. After that I created some rectangles and put a gold gradient for background of my text and two more for my tittle and put 15% opacity. After printed it I cut the top part to give some sharp angles complementing my logo.

  • BUSINESSCARD

Description:Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo.

    Date:2/28/15

    Course/InstructorComm 130 Section 06Joel Judkins

    Programs:Adobe Illustrator & InDesign

Objectives:To use a new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card.

Process:I created the logo using simple shapes in Adobe Illustrator. I also used the pathfinder tool to cut and create a Flamingo. Once the logo was created, I opened a new two page InDesign document and placed my logo .AI file into this document.

  • LETTER HEAD

Description:Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo.

    Date:2/28/15

    Course/InstructorComm 130 Section 06Joel Judkins

    Programs:Adobe Illustrator & InDesign

Objectives:To use a new logo to design consistent layouts for a letterhead.

Process:I used the rectangle tool to create the front and back outline of my business card. I then copied/pasted the logo and contact in-formation onto that page. I kept the logo and contact information about the same size as the information on the letterhead. For the back of my business card decided to change a different tone of pink for the torso of the flamingo in order to add for repetition.

  • WEBPAGE

Description:A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.

    Date:3/14/15

    Course/InstructorComm 130 Section 06Joel Judkins

    Programs:TextWrangler & Photoshop

Objectives:Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset (provided), body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a link to blog)

Process:I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors from my logo as the colors for my web page. I found these colors by open-ing Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also changed my fonts to Times New Roman and Verdana. I declared some backup fonts just in case the viewers browser didnt have these fonts. I also used padding around the logo and text so that they would not be too close to the edge of the web page.

  • EVENTAD

Description:A color event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.

    Date:1/31/15

    Course/InstructorComm 130 Section 06Joel Judkins

    Programs:Word/Scanner

Objectives:Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process:I first created a sketch in order to create a flow of ideas. Even though final result was totally different I followed the main ideas of my sketch. I created a mesh background so it will give contrast to the tittle and logo. I gave it a curve cut to give my flier more flow and create a focal point.

  • PHOTODESIGN

Description:Show the importance of good photography is necessary to have a good output in hand with photo editing.

    Date:2/07/15

    Course/InstructorComm 130 Section 06Joel Judkins

    Programs:Photoshop

Objectives:Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take a pho-to to match those colors, and then incorporate the colors into the layout.

Process:Before taking the picture I thought about color schemes and to-wards what area I felt more inclined. I chose my color scheme wheel found in the Visual Focus book. After choosing my color scheme I brainstormed what photos I could take and places that would go with my color scheme. After I took my pictured I used Photoshop to edit my photo. I lower the contrast and sharpen the water fountain. I put the effects of the smart water quote em-bossed in the water fountain. I also painted the bricks with the same colors of my scheme and changed the opacity so it will show the texture of the bricks.

Process:For my project I took a photo from the Librarys bathroom. Main-ly because I wanted to use for my project an image everybody be familiar with in order to attract more attention. The program I used was Photoshop. With the original image I changed the vibran-cies and also enhanced the browns. I also scanned the image of the duck and created the montage. I added some graffiti hand made and masked it to create a look of worn out. I also added some effects to the text to make it look that it was written on the wall. Some elements of design I used are alignment and directed the focal point to the duck.

  • LOGOS

Description:Three logo variations for the same company.

    Date:2/21/15

    Course/InstructorComm 130 Section 06Joel Judkins

    Programs:Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience.

Process:First I tried to come up with a powerful name for a company. I used the ellipse tool to create the basic shape of rings, which give the impression of unity and infinity. I then used the direct select tool to manipulate some of the curves. This gave the shape to the rings and the F on the last logo. Most of the other elements are just typography. I made sure to choose fonts that gave send an image of trust. I also tried getting some more contrast by playing with the gradients.
