Create a 80 square meter resiDeNCe aND stuDio for a writer, musiCiaN or artist. Choose oNe of four speCifiC sites oN the plot -- the meaDow, riDge, valley or lake -- aND DesigN, Draw plaNs aND builD a 1:100 sCale moDel.

usiNg the riDge loCatioN, aND foCusiNg oN the views both to aND from that spot, i CreateD a liNear spaCe with vertiCal wiNDows to mimiC the trees iN the area. it was importaNt for the house to be DireCtly oN the path without obstruCtiNg it, so the 2ND floor CaNtilevers over the trail.

large wiNDows oN the east aND west faCes allow opportuNe views to the lake aND valley as well as ample suNlight, aND Narrow wiNDows oN the North faCe offer privaCy from the approaChiNg trail.

usiNg basiC arChiteCtural elemeNts (ColumNs, walls, roofs, etC.) aND materials (wooD, metal, glass, masoNry aND CoNCrete), Create a spaCe that is Not a builDiNg, but iNCorporates a thresholD, ChaNge iN level aND plaCe of repose.

i DeCiDeD oN a small spaCe that plays oN the weight of materials; here, metal, usually a heavy, struCtural material, is thiN aND supporteD by wooD aND CoNCrete to give the illusioN it is floatiNg. a stark eNtraNCe faCaDe is followeD by a small ChaNge iN height iNto the maiN area, with a siNgle oCCupaNCy area off to the siDe.

i Chose to Create a soCCer arChive oN kiNg st. iN my DesigN, i waNteD to foCus oN movemeNt, so the maiN CirCulatioN was ramps, allowiNg aNyoNe to move through the builDiNg aND see the items oN Display iN the 2 light well Display Cases.

a greeN roof oN the NeighbouriNg builDiNg woulD allow for researCh DoNe iNsiDe, exerCises aND teChNiques, to be praCtiCeD aND applieD right after learNiNg. it woulD also serve as aN outDoor view-iNg spaCe where games CoulD be proJeCteD oNto the exterior walls, relatiNg to the tiff lightbox aCross the street.

DesigN aN oasis that uses oNly Natural heatiNg, veNtilatioN aND CooliNg to aChieve a Comfortable iNterior eNviroNmeNt iN oNe of the 4 maiN Climate types.

my oasis, loCateD iN the hot-humiD Climate of southerN Cuba, useD verNaCular materials of the area to bloCk the suN aND CoNtrol the wiND for maximum Comfort. the large overhaNg of the roof proviDeD ample shaDe, while the woveN material alloweD hot air to esCape the spaCe.

the mostly southerN blowiNg wiNDs CoulD be DireCteD through the spaCe for DiffereNt veNtilatioN NeeDs usiNg the Doors aND shutters oN the faCes of the oasis, aloNg with the raiseD floor eNCouragiNg Cool air flow uNDerNeath. the raiseD floor also serveD to keep the spaCe Dry DuriNg high tiDe aND storms.

with ‘biomimiCry’ as a theme, DesigN a struCtural steel iNstallatioN to be plaCeD aNywhere iN the worlD. this was aN eNtry iN the 2011 ssef arChiteCtural DesigN CompetitioN. roll over is a retraCtable peDestriaN briDge proposeD for CoNstruCtioN iN amsterDam’s reD light DistriCt.

proviDiNg peDestriaNs with the uNique opportuNity to experieNCe walkiNg over water oN a glass floor, the proJeCt is versatile, fuNCtioNal aND iNterestiNg for its users.

the maiN struCture is ComposeD of hollow struCtural steel members that make up the “stem” aND “leaves” of the DesigN. steel teNsioN Cables aCt as railiNgs, but also serve to roll aND uNroll the briDge.

usiNg liNes to meausre the CirCular aND ovoiD spaCes iN my plaster moDel, i was able to skew aND sCale the liNes to Create New shapes where the liNes iNterseCteD.

the shapes were theN aligNeD so that like shapes liNeD up, aND theN JoiNeD at 90° aNgles. the fiNal moDel was maDe up of oNe pieCe of folDeD paper.

this proJeCt was part of a larger stuDy of 6th to 13th CeNtury religious builDiNgs. our group was assigNeD the task of CreatiNg a 1:100 sCale moDel of basiliCa saN vitale iN raveNNa, italy.

after stuDyiNg the basiliCa at leNgth aND ChoosiNg a seCtioN Cut that best revealeD the iNterior, CoNstruCtioN was DiviDeD iNto parts: exterior walls, iNterior walls, ColumNs, vaults, Domes aND mosaiCs.

beiNg iN Charge of Domes, i useD paper maChe to Create a smooth Dome iNterior that woulD have the look of the plaster useD iN the origiNal ChurCh aND be easier to apply the tiNy haND paiNteD mosaiCs to. assembly of the fiNal proDuCt was DoNe as a group. this moDel was uNique amoNgst others for haviNg the most DetaileD iNterior.
