1. 2014 Year in Review A Very Thorough Review Ross and Tina The Porters 2. New Years 2014: Ross partied in Cartagena, Colombia while Tina didnt party. She was working in the hospital at a job like a normal person Tina in BostonRoss in Colombia 3. Eventually, Ross returned to Boston and business school and Costco. 4. Life at business school was pretty much the same as last year 1. ROSS PLAYED SPORTS Ross and HBS soccer team at the Austin, TX business school tournament. Second Place. 5. When Ross went to Austin, TX for that tournament, Tina stayed home for work. Ross left a card on the table prior to his departure. The tournament took place on the weekend of February 14th. NOTE: There was no gift left on the table with this card. Ross returned 3 days later. 6. Life at business school was pretty much the same as last year 2. ROSS SOCIALIZED *These people demanded to be in the slide show. Ross says, They are not actually my friends. You can tell because two of them are girls. 7. 3. ROSS NETWORKED 8. 4. ROSS CONTINUED TO BUILD LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS 9. 5. ROSS DID GO TO CLASS Santi and Ross celebrated when they made good comments in class. 11. It only happened twice. 12. 7. ROSS CONTINUED TO MODEL 13. AND NO YEAR WOULD BE COMPLETE WITHOUT AT LEAST 3 BLACK TIE EVENTS FOR NO REASON. 14. But this year, Ross also started focusing on his career. He only has 6 months of school left. 15. Ross interviewed for a summer internship at Burger King in Miami. 16. He decided not to take it because it was in Miami. He also would have to work 5 days per week. That interfered with his World Cup viewing. At least we got to go to Miami in February 17. Instead, Ross interned in New York City at Lux Capital. He really liked the company, and he met Bill Nye. Aka The Science Guy 18. Ross also pursued a lot of new ideas for companies and had success with his business dealings this year. SpotRocket (www.spotrocket.co): A start-up ranking start-ups. Ride that Rocket! Top 10 at the HBS student business competition! 19. Spot Rocket got a lot of good press, but Ross decided to move on to his next big thing Poor Mans Google Glass Prototyping. 20. It turned out not to be a big success and was rejected from the HBS Rock Accelerator Program for not solving a big enough problem. Ross begs to differ. He is still working on it. Judge for yourself. VIDEO 21. Ross and Sam also made a deal with another hearing aid player this year. Most of the day-to-day duties are now managed elsewhere. Tina was happy that she did not have to wake up to 5 am This is Ross with Embrace Hearing calls anymore. Ross was happy that he had more time to make flags. 22. Now Ross is working on Heritage Holding, a Search Fund. Ross says this is his next, next big thing. Tina is not sure what this means. This is the homepage. Not pictured: Ross pants with a big rip from a dancing accident at the club one week earlier. 24. While Ross worked on his business dealings, Tina kept working at the hospital. In June, Tina and her fellow co-residents graduated from intern year and started down the ROAD to happiness. ROAD: Radiology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, and Dermatology happiness/fewer hrs of work 25. Intern year ended with a party on a boat and a souvenir photo for Eric. ERIC, future ophthalmologist 26. This is why they take photos before the cruise starts. ERIC, future ophthalmologist 27. Tina is now in Dermatology Residency. She works normal hours and no weekends (except taking call). She uses her new free time to read textbooks and study Ross skin. Diagnosis: TRAMP STAMP 28. Outside of work and school, Ross and Tina found ways to stay busy this year. Ross threw a nerd party. Only Amir showed up. I guess he is a nerd. 29. Tina and Ross won $1400 in 5 minutes playing 3 card poker at Foxwoods. Tina hit a straight flush, won $700, and immediately quit gambling. She used the money to convince Ross to get a housecleaner to come regularly. Ross took over Tinas spot at the table, hit a straight flush 2 hands later, and also won $700. Ross did not quit gambling, and he did not use his money to pay the housecleaner. 30. Tina got caught in a lot of questionable outfits. 31. Ross and Tina went to an art exhibit because Ross really wanted to see the balloon dog. Our understanding of art is poor. 32. Because Art seemed to not be their thing, Tina and Ross passed up many art museums in Greece and instead went to the Tomato Processing Plant. VIDEO 33. Ross tried to take up running this summer, and he began training with his coworker Jeff. Jeff was a lot more serious than Ross. Ross eventually quit. Jeff was training for a 4 minute mile, Ross was training not to puke. Jeff sleeps in a hypobaric tent next to his girlfriend. 34. Ross also tried to take up hurdling. He quit this, too, but after he was able to beat Braden Lepisto in a race. VIDEO 35. Ross learned to cook lobsters, and Tina learned to eat lobsters 36. A lot of lobsters 37. Ross and Tina also watched a lot of soccer. 38. And stalked the USMNT. This is Bedoya hitting on Tina, sort of. VIDEO 39. This is Tina with Bedoya. Tina loves Bedoya. 40. Ross wants everyone to notice that he is close to the size of Jozy Altidore. 41. Ross told Tina that he wanted to build something. Tina reluctantly agreed to this plan, and they went to Home Depot. Ross bought a drill. Then a drill press arrived by mail. Tina is not sure why one would need a drill and a drill press. Ross does not explain it to her. 42. Ross is still working on his secret project. It is eight feet long and takes up the entire second bedroom. 43. Ross also pursued his love of puzzles with Vogel. At their first puzzle contest, Ross told Tina that he would be home in 45 minutes after he solved all the puzzles. Tina kept calling every hour, wondering where Ross was. Ross replied, Tina, Im doing puzzles 44. Many hours later, Ross and Vogel submitted their final answers for the puzzle contest under the name, Tina, Im doing puzzles. They got last place. They even lost to the team that named themselves, Last Place 45. Ross and Vogel did not tell Alex Ferguson about their poor showing in the puzzle contest. 46. Good thing Vogel has other talentsVogel took us flying for Tinas birthday. VIDEO 47. We flew over house and down to Cape Cod. It was a little windy, and Tina may or may not have thought that she was going to die. She didnt though. It was a great birthday. Our Apartment HBS 48. Ross bought Tina an ice cream cake for her birthday, and the USMNT beat Ghana in their opening World Cup game. 49. Later, Tina bought Ross an ice cream cake for his birthday. 50. Then Ross and Tina bought an ice cream cake for just the two of them for no reason*. It was 10 in diameter. They shamelessly brought it to a holiday party the next day with of it missing. *Never say no to a Toscaninis Ice Cream Cake. Tina will even put up with Ross lactose-intolerance, foul-smelling gas for this cake. 51. Ross states that his greatest success of 2014 was spreading his favorite new game. 52. The game took place in public, mostly at bars. 53. He got other people to join. 54. It was not too popular with the bar managers. 55. But Ross friends seemed to like it. 56. The game was played by a lot of people and in foreign countries (Israel). 57. Sometimes it went a little too far. That is Ross handwriting. 58. Sometimes it went way too far, and Tina had to apologize to other wives whose husbands played the game. 59. Ross even got his family to play the game at the Porter Family Reunion on Block Island. 60. Take off your shirt at a bar You win if you are the last man standing You lose if you are forced to put your shirt back on or if you are kicked out of the bar NOTE: There may be unintended outcomes of this game, like bar managers giving you a tray of shots to put your shirt back on. Yes, this really happens All of it 61. 2014 was also a big year for traveling. In addition to China and Colombia, Ross also went to Israel. 62. Ross and Tina also went to Belize where they snorkeled with sharks, drank beers from buckets, and watched World Cup games. 63. This summer, Ross also wanted to get back in touch with his roots, so Tina and Ross went to Greece. Thanks, Christina (and Tewfik)! This is Ross getting back to his roots 64. We ate a lot of good food and had even better company. 65. We relaxed at the beach with lots of sunscreen. Always wear your sunscreen (broad spectrum, SPF >30+) and cover up. We ended the trip with a romantic weekend in Santorini where we hiked, boated, and scooted around the entire island. It was beautiful. 67. We spent 10 hours on a scooter. It went well for 9 hours and 55 minutes, and then Tina crashed. She was ok. Ross didnt crash. He likes to remind Tina about this daily. VIDEO 68. Our last international trip of 2014 was to Monterrey, MX to celebrate Ross birthday. Thanks to the Padilla family! 69. We even crashed a Mexican wedding. SLOANE!!! 70. There were many weddings this year for which we received actual invitations. Many of our best friends got married! Noah and Christine! Pittsburgh, PA JayKayTay! Ross also went to Eric and Silvia Yehs wedding without Tina. Their wedding was at Charles Krug (site of Ross and Tinas wedding in 2012). Maybe Ross should not be allowed to go to weddings alone. 75. And even if Tina goes with him, he should probably not be allowed into photo booths. 76. Although we love Boston, we miss our friends and family. Luckily, they all came to the Northeast this year! BLOCK ISLAND, RI: PORTER FAMILY REUNION 2014 77. Train to family reunion at Block Island. Bam bought 6 donuts for lunch 78. Donuts made Bam feel sick. That was a bad idea, Bam. 79. Gunt came to visit and got a taste of life at HBS. VIDEO 80. Jeremy came to visit and got a taste of life as a 5 year old. VIDEO 81. Olga came to visit and got a taste of life at the Porters when we arent responding to anybodys texts because we dont want to go out drinking. 82. Ross little bro, Chase, also came to visit, but he didnt spend much time with us. No worries. He likes to keep us updated on his life as a sophomore in college. ROSSCHASE 83. Ross is partially responsible for Chase. He sent this email this Spring to the Bros/Rush Chairs of Kappa Sigma. 84. Chase is now a KAPPA SIGMA Brother!! 85. JP is still waiting for Kappa Sigma to respond to his email. Kappa Sigma still has no idea why some random guy offered them coffee. JP did not clarify that he runs Coupa Caf. JP did get Tina Hot chocolate with a cat though. 86. Tinas little sister also came to visit. She helped nurse Tina back to health after her ACL surgery in December. Yes, Tina tore her ACL playing soccer this year. She is fine. 87. This was the day before the ACL tear, aka the last dance before the ACL tear. They were twerking to a youtube video. 88. This is the morning of the ACL Tear. Family football game gone awry. Tinas mom was even there watching. 89. This is the day after ACL surgery. It was hard for Tina to go to the bathroom. She accidentally peed on the floor. Ross made Tinas sister clean it up. 90. Things were not good for Ross either this year. Ross broke his thumb during a frisbee game. It was embarrassing. 91.
