TOMAREE MOUNTAIN CLIMB
On November 9 Geoffrey Ashworth, a Bernie Thompson Park resident who suffers from
Parkinson’s Disease and Prostate Cancer took a hike up Tomaree Mountain to show that
there is life after disease.
Two years ago Geoffrey had difficulty getting off the couch and purchased a motorised
chair to commute. Since working out regularly at Harbourside Recreation Centre where
he is coached by Mr Lee Anlezark a fellow Parkinson’s sufferer, Geoffrey’s condition has
improved considerably.
The purpose behind the climb was to raise awareness about the support available for
sufferers of both Parkinson’s Disease and Prostate Cancer as well as to raise funds for the
Tomaree Prostate Cancer Support Group.
Congratulations Geoff on an outstanding achievement!

GREETINGS FROM BERNIE THOMPSON PARK
FINGAL BAY BOWLING CLUB TRIVIA NIGHT A good night’s entertainment. Rae and Brian did us proud winning a Bistro Prize.
Overall, we put up a good fight considering it was our first attempt. The “Parkers”
dead-heated last with “The BTPs” (John, Brian, Rae and Carol). The next Fingal Bowls
Club trivia night is on the last Tuesday in December. Anyone interested please phone Rae
0400054524 or Carol 4984 9632. Courtesy bus available.
OUR OWN BTP TRIVIA NIGHT, THURSDAY 12 NOVEMBER Rae was our “Quizzer” for this event and conducted it magnificently with some interesting
questions. Gary and Craig were winners on the night.
CONGRATULATIONS To Geoff for conquering the “Mountain”. Well done! You have the support of your many
friends in BTP and wider afield. Our raffle supporting Geoff was drawn on 19 November,
winner Val Cross. Any donations either to Mr Woodhill, the Tomaree
Prostate Support Group President, or a local Parkinson’s Support Group would
be greatly appreciated. Mr Woodhill can be contacted on 0418275298.
At our happy Hour on the 12th, mention was made of the many functions organised for
residents to enjoy in November and December. Hope to see you at the Christmas Buffet
Luncheon on Wednesday, 2 December.
CHRISTMAS DAY 2015 A very warm invitation is extended to any villagers who will be at a bit of a loose end on
Christmas Day, as Brian and I will be. We’re having a “Shared Christmas Lunch” in our
rotunda. Just bring some sliced cold meat, whatever you fancy, a salad or a tinned plum
pud which we could heat, or just come yourself with a cold Beveridge and some nibbles.
Please bring your own knife and fork, drinks and a glass. We can provide plates.
Sorry to hear Don, our friendly visitor from Harbourside, has been having a tough time late-
ly. Hope he is feeling a whole lot better. We are pleased his four-legged companion Leo
still often joins us on Thursdays.
Wishing everybody a “Very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year”.
Carol Russell, Deputy Advocate.
News from Bernie Thompson Park
A big thankyou from Geoffrey Ashworth on behalf of the Parkinson’s Disease
and Prostate Cancer Groups for all the kind donations that have been received.

MONTHLY BBQ It was decided by the majority of residents at our last barbecue that there would be NO SAUSAGE SIZZLE on the first Sunday of December as it is getting to be a busy period
for most people. We will just have the Resident’s Christmas Luncheon as the year draws to
a close.
CRAFT RAFFLE WINNERS Betty. Johnson, John Campbell, Diedre ( Iris Mcguinnes’ Daughter), Bill Wallace, Jewel
Maud, Claudette Norris, Val Cross, Meryl Johns, Joan Sorenson, Lois Campbell, Dianne
Lodge.
It was a successful day and many bargains were bought. The Craft Group would like to
thank all those who attended.
THANK YOU To Pauline Orr for the many years she has set up the Hall with tables and chairs for every
function, also, for looking after the Hall to keep it running smoothly. Well done.
NOTE If the front door of the Hall is left open, it should be put on the latch provided, to avoid the
glass being damaged again from the strong winds.
LIBRARY Going very well. Thank you Bart for the wonderful books you recently donated. Don't for-
get I will deliver any books if you ring me to have them delivered –
Joy Hart 4981 4715.

AUSTRALIA DAY 2016 Plans are underway for the special Australia Day Dinner we have each year to
celebrate being an Aussie, being a village person and having the Eminent
Resident Awards. You vote for the person you think has made village life more
comfortable, more fun or for just being there for residents over the years.
You have one vote - the voting slip is in this edition. Just find it and fill it in,
place it in an envelope, close, and give to one of the Resident's
Advocates. They will send it on for you to the office to the returning
officer. Votes are counted and the two residents are revealed on Australia Day.
They will have their names in gold lettering on our Honour Board and be
presented with Certificates and Badges by the Chairman of the Board and his
partner Vicki at a special dinner.
Booking slips for that dinner will come around in early January. It is a very
popular event (Tuesday 26th January). There are usually between sixty and
eighty residents who come along for an afternoon of celebrations with Steve
Gillespie entertaining, lots of food, drinks and fun. Please put that date in your
diaries if you would like to be part of a very special event.

Sincere Christmas Greetings from Fingal HavenSincere Christmas Greetings from Fingal HavenSincere Christmas Greetings from Fingal HavenSincere Christmas Greetings from Fingal Haven
Joy to the World! Let us celebrate ! Joy to the World! Let us celebrate ! Joy to the World! Let us celebrate ! Joy to the World! Let us celebrate !
For many of us Christmas seems to be a less than joyful time.
For a variety of reasons, it may be a sad and difficult time of the year. For others a veneer of superficial and short lived fun times, leaves us feeling worn, weary, emotionally and fiscally bankrupt…as we attempt to purchase and do a variety of good ‘things’ that have traditionally been associated with Christmas in our ‘Ozy’ culture.
If God the giver and sustainer of all life is real, is true… how amazing to think that he would be so concerned for our wellbeing as to be our friend…. that he would send his only son, as a vulnerable baby to show us how we could be God’s friend, and not only take the blame for our own mess, but also give us a sure way to get out of it.
Let’s each of us question, and ponder these things, so whether our feelings are sad or glad, we can know a deep peace and content.
I am so glad Jesus is my friend. My living JOY each new day.
What ever your circumstances…and how ever you spend this Festive Season.
May each and every reader, know a Christmas Season and A New Year, blessed by
Peace and Joy.
I write this in all sincerity, from a caring and grateful heart. Margaret McMillan ~ 49 811 548
