Chosen People
Ministries
Chosen People are coming on Wednesday,
March 8th at 6:30 pm to present: “Messiah
in the Passover”.
The speaker will explain the symbolic mean-
ings of the various items of the Passover
feast and give special emphasis as to how
they point to Jesus.
The unleavened bread, Passover wine (grape
juice), and entire program of Passover are
instructive in understanding the Last Supper
and the redemptive significance of the cruci-
fixion. MESSIAH IN THE PASSOVER gives the
Christian community insight into Jewish tradi-
tions so that the Jewish roots of Christianity
can be better understood. This program
helps the Jewish and Christian communities
understand their common heritage.
A love offering will be collected.
A Chat & Chew (covered dish) will be held
on March 19th after the second service. We will be reviewing common oils and various uses for them and looking at reflexology points in both the feet and hands. We will have handouts for anyone who wants them.

Good News & Better News
The classic axiom is, "I've got some good
news and bad news."
But Cring & Clazzy have decided this year
to extract the bad news from the concept and
change it to "better news." Yes, Good News &
Better News. In a season of perpetual upheav-
al, it would be nice to have an hour to "still
the storm."
On Sunday morning, March 26, 2017, at the
9 am and 11 am services, the duo known na-
tionally as Cring & Clazzy, dubbed "the big-
gest two-piece band in America," will be of-
fering their program of humor, stories, song
and music to rally the spirits of those who at-
tend.

Good News & Better News (cont.)
For the good news is: we're still alive and
kicking. And the better news is: we're not
alone.
Working from the parable from Matthew 11:
16-20, they will take the congregation on a
journey of discovering ways to make lives
fuller, richer and more loving, while intro-
ducing bits of drama, comedy and even a little
poetry.
Included in the show will be the oboe exper-
tise of Janet Clazzy, along with showcasing
the WX5 Wind Machine, a horn which has
250 different instruments.
The worship program is geared to all ages
and will be funded through a free-will of-
fering taken at the end of the presentation.

“IS THIS A BILL?”
When your Contribution Statement
came to you this year, is that what you
thought? Wait a minute, a bill? Some-
thing I had to pay? A commitment for
services rendered? Sadly, I know some
probably thought that for just a tiny
fleeting moment. I was a little shocked
when our church treasurer said she still
gets that question once in a while. I
grew up in the church and the pledge
letter is something I just took for grant-
ed each year. I forgot that some people
are new Christians, they don’t under-
stand what it is and what it stands for.
Your Contribution Statement is an
accounting of your monies you gave
each month to your church for last
year. This is your promise, or
“commitment” to God from you to help
keep your church and His Word alive
to your brothers and sisters, your com-
munity through outreach, and to mis-
sions that the District deems necessary
in the world. We can use that statement
for tax purposes, for personal satisfac-
tion, or just to redo our budget and see
if we can give God more this year or to
keep on track for this year’s commit-
ment.
Does that help your understanding a
little more? I hope so, because we are
very tight this year. I hope all of you
attended our planning retreat last
month, if you did, you know the cir-
cumstances of our church and the
Church in general. If you didn’t, I’m
sorry. The church itself is changing,
and we MUST change with it. The
lights will stay on, the water will keep
flowing, but the people must also come
and fill the pews. We will do what we
must to make disciples for Jesus Christ.
That is where our focus is.
So please, pledge cards can still be
filled out and turned in. Volunteers are
still needed and fresh ideas ALWAYS
welcomed. Honor your commitments,
your pledge to God and your church.
We will survive and continue for Jesus.
Oh, and just one more thing. Please
pray for our finances in the coming
months. Our situation calls for it, and
we need God more than ever. Remem-
ber, WHEN PRAYER HAPPENS,
GOD TAKES ACTION.
In His love and your service,
Cathy Anderson,
Stewardship Chairperson

Trustee’s
Corner
Mic Woltman
Wow! Thanks for much to all who showed
up to help out with the church workday. It
was a great time of fellowship and an oppor-
tunity to do some house cleaning on the
church properties. Thanks again for giving of
your time and talents to help out and a big
“thanks” to Donna Charlton for bringing in
lunch to fuel us through the afternoon.
I asked a question during the workday if eve-
ryone was aware of that the church had poli-
cies and procedures for how we use and up-
keep our property. Many people at the work
day did not know and it got us to thinking
that maybe not all the congregation knew we
had a Policy and Procedure manual. There-
fore, I would like to take this opportunity to
let everyone know that the Trustees Commit-
tee is the keeper of the Policies and Proce-
dures manual and it is available to anyone to
read. It is available in the office area or if
you would like to get it electronically to read
we can do that too. Just let myself know and
we will get it to you.
The Policies and Procedures manual are
there to protect and help us better use our
facilities. Some of the policies have to do
with how we take care of the properties, our
assessments, our blessings from God. Some
of the policies are there to define how exter-
nal groups use our facilities, how we main-
tain accountability and how we can utilize
what we are blessed with as a congregation.
One such policy, that many may not be
aware of, is Section 6: Facility Usage, in this
section we talk about security for routine
events, requesting the use of facilities, use of
equipment that the church owns, facility us-
age fees and even drinking water usage in the
Sanctuary. All of these things have been in
place for years at FUMC PSJ. For example,
did you know that is you have a group that
meets at the church regularly that you need
to fill out an Event Coordinator Form? This
is covered in the Security for Routine Events
policy and is in place so that every group that
meets at the church has a contact on file in
case something was to happen or an event
occurred that we needed to get a hold of the
point of contact for that group. Another thing
that you may not know is that Section 602
allows for drinking water and only drinking
water in containers to be used in the Sanctu-
ary. This policy is in place to prevent spills
in the Sanctuary that might stain the carpet-
ing. Just FYI!
I thought it would be nice to share with you
the church family that there are things in
place to help us better utilize and take care of
our facilities. Take time to familiarize your-
self with them and if you have suggestions
for additions or changes let us know; we re-
view these policies and procedure every year
as a committee for the betterment of our
church.
I pray that you are blessed this month and
that the Holy Spirit fills your heart with Joy.
I look forward to serving with you this year
and in all the ministries of our Church.

Senior Lunch &
Bible Study
New members and visitors of a “certain
age” are invited to join our Senior Lunch
and Bible Study on Thursdays at 12:00
noon. Not only is Pastor David Charlton an
excellent Bible scholar, but he has the abil-
ity to coax feedback from his class. There is
always a lively exchange of ideas and at
least a good laugh per session. Learning
about the Old Testament Patriarchs and the
life of Jesus can be enjoyable, as it should
be!
Besides the benefits of learning, there is the
pleasure of sharing a meal. Whether it be
brown bag, covered dish, salads and finger
food, hot dogs or going out to eat at a local
restaurant. We hope you can join us!

Thank you from Sarah McCabe
One of the hardest things for me
to accept early on in my walk with Christ
(and sometimes still) is that I am worthy
and deserving of His love and blessings.
Countless times I have been blessed be-
yond comprehension; His love from peo-
ple being the greatest gift.
I found you all at a very hard and
low point in my life and God surely
pulled out all the stops with this blessing.
You welcomed us with open arms and
hearts, like we were always meant to be
part of your family. You are all so full of
His love that when a solution to a tre-
mendous problem of mine arose, there
were no questions or hesitations. This
congregation pulled together and stopped
at nothing until the goal was reached.
Even when the finish line was pushed
further away, you made sure it was still
reached.
The love, understanding, ac-
ceptance and willingness to do anything
possible to help is second to none. I
know God is overjoyed at how much of
Him lives in your hearts and shines
through for all to see. A pastor once told
me “to imitate what you celebrate.” You
all are perfect examples of that.
There aren’t words to express how
truly grateful I am for everything you
have done for me, especially for loving
my family. You have literally given me
back my smile, my future and, eventual-
ly, independence and stability. I will,
however, show you and I will make you
proud. As proud as I am to call you my
church family. From the bottom of my
heart, I thank you. Your love has made
me a better person and Christian. It’s
very surreal for me to be the beneficiary
of this story and I can’t wait to be on
your end of someone else’s needs. I
surely will be someday.
You’ll be happy to know that
since I completely healed after dental
surgery, etc., I cannot stop smiling, even
when I probably shouldn’t smile! Also, I
am so excited to tell you that I am the
new baker at our Dunkin Donuts! I am
so excited about this new chapter in my
life and all the doors that will now open
for me. Thanks to our awesome God and
all of His works through all of you. I
give Him ALL the glory, honor and
praise!
With a heart full of gratitude and
awe, I thank you.

Kingdom of God Living Based on the Parables
of Jesus Part II
By: Pastor David Charlton
At a seminar I recently attended, Reg-gie McNeal, a well-known author and church consultant, gave what I consid-er to be the simplest yet most profound definition of the Kingdom of God (also known as Kingdom of Heaven). The Kingdom of God is life as God intends. We make this request of God every time we pray the Lord’s prayer. We pray, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” In other words, we pray for us to experi-ence life as God intends. The parables show us what this type of life looks like. Last month we looked at the parables of the mustard seed and yeast. This month we’ll look at the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). To understand this parable, it’s helpful to have a little background. The road from Jerusalem to Jericho was approxi-mately 23 miles and would usually take two days to complete on foot. It was extremely rocky with plenty of natural ambush sites. Traveling alone on this road would have been dangerous. It’s also important to understand that there was a lot of animosity between the Jews and Samaritans and they
wanted nothing to do with each other. The Jews considered the Samaritans to be half-breeds who did not properly worship the Lord. (For the cause of this animosity, read 2 Kings 17:24-41.) The last thing we need to understand is that if a Priest or Levite touched a dead body, they would be considered un-clean and that would keep them from performing their duties. They would have to wait a week before they could become clean again and resume their duties. (Numbers 19:11-13) Now, if you had not already done so, please read the Story of the Good Sa-maritan in Luke 10:25-37. The main point of the parable answers the question: “Who is my neighbor?” The obvious answer is that our neigh-bor is anyone who may need our help. We are to love all people, regardless of their race, reli-gion or whatever. Another popular theme from this para-ble is the idea that love always trumps religious rituals. The Priest and Levite performed or supported religious ritu-als. If they had touched the person who was left for dead, they risked touching a dead body and that would keep them from performing their duties. So, in-stead of demonstrating love towards the man who was left for dead, they walked past him so they could continue
to perform religious rituals. They
chose religious rituals over love and were clearly in the wrong. A less common approach to this parable is to look at it from the view point of the person who was beaten and left for dead. This victim was a Jew. Jesus was talking to a group of Jews about a man who was walking from a Jewish city to another Jewish city on a road normally travelled by Jews. The listeners would have assumed Jesus was talking about a Jew. How do you suppose the Jewish victim felt when his help came from a despised Samaritan instead of his fellow Jews? He may have prayed, “O God, why did it have to be a Samaritan?” How do we react when help comes from someone we don’t like or respect? Do we resent the help or do we look at it as an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love by graciously receiving the help? The Kingdom of God is made up of all
kinds of people. When we need help,
God may send someone we would not
ordinarily associate with. That, however,
is an opportunity for God’s love to surge
forth and expand God’s kingdom.
