Overseas OutlookUK
2011’s growth projections revised down to 1.7%
The government’s Emergency Budget will take £120bn (€138bn) out of the
economy by 2015, including a two-year pay freeze for public workers and up to
25% cuts in Departmental expenditure. VAT will also rise.
US
The US recovery has continued, driven by a temporary stimulus from fiscal
policy and accommodating monetary policy but is running out of steam
Growth projection is 2.3%, but there are some indications of a slackening in the
pace of growth.
Euro Area
GDP in the euro zone is expected to increase by 1.5% next year, but the pace
of recovery across the euro zone is still slow and uneven
With the euro weakening against other currencies, it gives Europeans a greater
incentive to travel and holiday within the single currency zone.
