PORT HARCOURT UNIVERSITY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT Nigeria, 2011-2012 The project consists on the design of a new university campus in the city northwest, close to the Port Harcourt international airport. The university is part of the Urban Development Plan for the city, whose promoter is the State Government of Rivers State, Nigeria. Esteyco, as a collaborator of the Angel Asenjo studio, designed the construction projects of structures of singular buildings such as the library, the church, the multi-use hall, among others, and a six level accommodation building. The construction plot of ≈170 ha where the campus will be located is already under the first phase of the construction process, and according to the “Master Plan” the rest of the phases will be developed afterwards. The construction area of ≈700,000m 2 , is divided in 87 buildings of several different sizes and shapes. Different typologies are developed, being the predominant theme the reinforced concrete beams and post tensioned flagstones, sometimes combined with metal profile modulus, creating combined framings (concrete and steel). The Rector and Conference buildings are designed with more complex and expensive enclosures, with metal sheets of titanium or galvanized steel. Information graphic of the different buildings of the university. Aerial view of the design proposal.

PORT HARCOURT UNIVERSITY

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

Nigeria, 2011-2012

The project consists on the design of a

new university campus in the city

northwest, close to the Port Harcourt

international airport. The university is part

of the Urban Development Plan for the

city, whose promoter is the State

Government of Rivers State, Nigeria.

Esteyco, as a collaborator of the Angel

Asenjo studio, designed the construction

projects of structures of singular

buildings such as the library, the church,

the multi-use hall, among others, and a

six level accommodation building.

The construction plot of ≈170 ha where

the campus will be located is already

under the first phase of the construction

process, and according to the “Master

Plan” the rest of the phases will be

developed afterwards.

The construction area of ≈700,000m2 , is

divided in 87 buildings of several

different sizes and shapes. Different

typologies are developed, being the

predominant theme the reinforced

concrete beams and post tensioned

flagstones, sometimes combined with

metal profile modulus, creating

combined framings (concrete and steel).

The Rector and Conference buildings

are designed with more complex and

expensive enclosures, with metal sheets

of titanium or galvanized steel.
