July 26, 2012 Greetings Everyone! It’s hard to believe we are almost through July already. Time always passes so quickly in the summer. Luckily, we still have plenty of warm days ahead for all the fun happening in and around the Port. First and foremost, we would all like to wish a very “Happy Birthday!” to Ed. Over the last forty-eight years, surely many of you have met Ed Wolowiec, the man whose creativity and passion has crafted Port Edward. While Ed is not always at the Port, or in the public eye, he still continues to be vested in the fine details that propel Port Edward’s new ideas, items, and direction. If you have the opportunity, be sure to wish him a very happy birthday this upcoming Thursday, July 26. You can usually spot Ed at his infamous table on New Deck during lunch or for sure this weekend for the Founder’s Days festivities. Speaking of Founder’s Day, we are very proud to have Ed selected as this year’s Grand Marshall for the annual parade. Each year, Port Edward is proud to host a pre-parade Buffet for the numerous dignitaries associated with Founder’s Day. This year is particularly special with Ed having the pleasure of leading the parade through downtown Algonquin. Ed will be driven in his classic Stutz Bearcat, a unique vehicle and surely one appreciated by collectors. Be sure to grab your spot along the parade route early to enjoy the numerous floats and have the best viewing area. We are looking forward to seeing the community come together and celebrate the establishment of our wonderful village. This is always a special time of year when so many of our friends and guests journey home, and we cannot wait to see everyone at the Port this weekend. Have you tried our New England Lobster Roll? If not, you’ll have to schedule time to visit us. Our Lobster Roll is made using authentic Maine lobster meat, which is then mixed with mayonnaise and celery to form a delicious sandwich. This entrée is one that even East Coast natives compliment; some even say our version triumphs similar items being served directly on the Atlantic Coast. Come in for lunch or dinner and sample this delicious offering. We know you’ll love it. In addition to our Thursday Specials, we will be offering a new daily cocktail for only $5. Each Thursday we will be featuring a different, rotating martini. We will be featuring current martinis, as well as creative, new originals that will offer variety to guests looking to try something delicious and fresh to the palate. This Thursday (July 24) we will be featuring a Van Gogh Double Espresso

Greetings Everyone!

Martini. Directly from the Van Gogh Website, Tim Vos, Master Distiller, describes the Double Espresso Vodka as follows: “This is espresso with a bite, although the taste is very smooth due to the burned sugar used in creating the flavor. The Columbian coffee beans are significant and noticeable in the Double Espresso, which has a great roasted aroma with a touch of sweetness from the caramel. Less noticeable than in the Espresso, there is a hint of bitterness in the taste. The caffeine is not noticeable in the flavor, but you can feel it a bit in the aftertaste.” Or, if Double Espresso is not for you, the following Thursday (August 2) we’ll have a specialty Lemon Drop Martini. Stop in and let Lola or Jorge make something special for you while enjoying the amazing view in the Salem Lounge.

The entire crew of the Port would like to offer our “Congratulations” to our dear friends, Mr. Ram, and his wife, Nancy. The couple renewed their vows after more than thirty-six years of marriage at a beautiful ceremony at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in downtown Chicago, followed by a stunning reception at the Drake Hotel. Ed, Karen, Marge, Lois, and Diane all were in attendance and described the night as a “fairytale come true”. As long time guests, Mr. Ram has gained recognition all around Port Edward for his delightful character, even having a plaque on the windmill depicting the space as “Ram’s Office”. We wish Mr. Ram & Nancy many more years of happiness and love together.

(We’ll feature a few photos below of the ceremony and reception)

they all look great?

Wow! What an amazing creation.

Mr. Ram had a special seven-layer

cake created especially for Nancy.
