The Extrusion Process
First Bauxite is mined.
The Bauxite is processed to produce Alumina.
The Alumina is then made into Billets (chunks of material).
The Billets are sold to the Manufacturer.

![Page 22: Pool Enclosure - brochure CPIC July 2007 - WPS Cat](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021306/62073ff849d709492c2f7da0/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
The ManufacturerThe Billets are then put into machines that heat them up, so they can be forced through an extruder.

Engineering
• All enclosures must have engineering.
• There are two ways to satisfy the requirement:– Master File
Engineering (most common)
– On Site Engineering.
![Page 35: Pool Enclosure - brochure CPIC July 2007 - WPS Cat](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021306/62073ff849d709492c2f7da0/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)

Industry Dilemma• There is now an issue after
the Florida Hurricanes of 2004 & 2005, regarding the large failure rate of enclosures.
• Masterfile vs. On-Site Engineering.
• Florida Board of Professional Engineers voted to require On-Site Engineering.
• Rescinded unanimously on June 14th, 2006 – still pending further decisions.

Industry Turns to Building Code
• New Building Code in draft for print January 2007.
• Discussion right now about increasing the strength requirements of enclosures– Problem!!!– Would need to have larger
Aluminum Extrusions (Manufacturers would have to create new dies, Engineers would have to re-do all the Master files).

Why Enclosures Fail…During the Storm
-Screens are the perfect sail.
-Improper Bracing (lack of K bracing or tension cables).
-Corroded Screws.
-Improper anchoring (lack of foundation).
-Tightly Woven Mesh Screen.
-Flying Debris.

Scoping
• Assess the overall situation.• Measure the footprint, wall
height, peak.• Pay attention to size of
posts/roof spans, color of aluminum, connectors.
• Take note of age, condition, roof style.
• Take note of extras: fans, lighting, electrical, extra doors.
• Determine if other things need repair: fascia board, Super Gutter, Stucco/Siding, Deck, Soffit, etc.
• The Manufacturer name is often on the underside of the chair rail.
• Photos: Take Overviews and close ups of actual damage.

How to Estimate
• Xactimate calculates based on a square footage basis of actual Screen Enclosure.
• When enclosure is gone – you simply need the square footage of the walls and ceiling to estimate replacement.
• ***No Waste****

How do you measure a mansard?

![Page 77: Pool Enclosure - brochure CPIC July 2007 - WPS Cat](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021306/62073ff849d709492c2f7da0/html5/thumbnails/77.jpg)
Basics - MansardWalls: (Square Foot of all walls)
-40’ X 9’ = 360 sq ft.
-30’ X 9’ X 2 = 540 sq ft.
-4’ X 9’ X 2 = 72 sq ft.
-Total Walls = 972 sq ft.
Roof: (Square Foot of all roof)
10.77’ + 10’ + 10.77’ = 31.54’X 40’ = 1,261.60 sq ft.
Total Roof = 1,261.60 sq ft.
Total Sq ft = 2,233.60 sq ft.
A mansard or hip, is simply a fancy gable

What happens when it is not there?
If you square it off, you will essentially be over-estimating.
On a mansard, the average total rise from the wall height is typically 4’ to 5’.
![Page 79: Pool Enclosure - brochure CPIC July 2007 - WPS Cat](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021306/62073ff849d709492c2f7da0/html5/thumbnails/79.jpg)
Figuring the Slope
A squared + B squared = square root of C
The average wall height is 8’ to 9’ high – this can be figured out typically from the elevation height of the home, where it was connected.
If you divide the width of the footprint you will have the measurement for B.
The average height of the peak is 4’ to 5’above the wall height. This will get you the measurement for A.
![Page 80: Pool Enclosure - brochure CPIC July 2007 - WPS Cat](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022021306/62073ff849d709492c2f7da0/html5/thumbnails/80.jpg)
Measuring a Flat Enclosure
Flat Enclosures are fairly easy:
Walls:
40’ X 9’ = 360 sq ft.
30’ X 9’ X 2 = 540 sq ft.
5’ X 9’ X 2 = 90 sq ft.
Total Walls = 990 sq ft.
Roof:
40’ X 30’ = 1,200 sq ft.
Total: 2,190 Sq ft.

SALVAGE
Extruded aluminum is highlyrecyclable only if aluminum is freeof all screen, spline, screws, etc. The labor to prepare to recycleoffsets the profit of recycling.Xactimate reads:Removal portion of R/R for a screen enclosure includes: labor charge to remove an enclosure and dispose ofin a job-site waste receptacle. This means consideration needs to be given for haul off (including use of trailer to remove old aluminumstructure and cart to recyclingplant.)Dumpsters rarely included in estimates from contractors.Cost of the dumpster offsets the aluminum salvage value. If the structure has not beenremoved, then leave the estimatics as Remove & Replace through Xactimate. If the structure has been removed by a service company, include the service fee when estimating for the structure, toggle off the Removal portion in Xactimate. If the policyholder has removed the enclosure themselves, leave the estimate as Remove & Replace.NOTE: Separate it as two line items so that when reconciling with a contractor’s estimate, you will be comparing apples to apples.

PES- vs. PES+ POL PES Estimating Repairs
POL PES- - Includes: 1 screen door, wall/ceiling panels with full height screen, and installation labor.Note: full screen patio or pool enclosure kit is priced per square foot of wall and/or ceiling
PES- is for standard structures.
When in doubt, use PES-
POL PES+ - Includes: 1 screen door, wall/ceiling panels with full height screen, and installation labor.Quality: may be custom shape, have complex ceiling or large spans, and/or may requirestronger materials.Note: full screen patio or pool enclosure kit is priced per square foot of wall and/or ceiling surfaceareas.
PES+ is for multi-story structures, extra bracing, “heavy duty” roofspans, complicated designsrequiring on-site engineering,stronger/thicker extrusions
POL PES = Includes: 1 screen door, wall/ceiling panels, upper half screen, lower aluminum panels, and installation labor.
- If you have to replace the roof, the codes below are most appropriate:
AWN PCDK-- Patio Cover - RoofDecking only - No load (Includes:standard widths: (12", 16", 24", & 48"), standard shapes: (V, W, &U), and installation labor.)
AWN PCDK- Patio Cover - RoofDecking only - Light load (Includes:standard widths: (12", 16", 24", & 48"), standard shapes: (V, W, &U), and installation labor.)
AWN PCDKINS Patio Cover - Insulated- Roof Decking only (Includes:expanded polystyrene foam insulatedpanels with structural skins, and installation labor.)
Can square off the area damaged and use POL PES- or PES+
Or use:

Use: (AWNPOSTA = Patio Post - Aluminum tube - LF) Includes: post, mounting hardware, and installation Labor. Note: patio cover or carport post is an extruded aluminum tube, usually rectangular shape, with mountingplate or bracket at both ends. Use for repair or replacement of damagedpost only. New posts are included in AWNPC and AWNCARPT.
- This is the only thing Xactimate has for materialconsideration
- Remember, if you use this, it does include labor for thisportion
