President’s message

Spring brings many opportunities for us to pursue; Giants baseball, yard clean-up, thorough house cleaning, flowers in the garden, gentle rain for the Valley’s crops and oh yes, the 20th Anniversary POCC car show. Things are moving fast for the car show, at our last show meeting chairman Andy was upbeat and positive that our 20th Anniversary show will be a great success!

Thanks in advance to everyone who has been supporting Andy behind the scenes, selling T-shirt ads, arranging for the catering for the Friday evening BBQ, to the picking up the food for the show BBQ lunch, to picking up the donuts and setting up the show field. I know I missed others, but, we all have had a hand in our 20th Anniversary show.

Our meeting on Monday will be slightly different in that I will be giving Andy as much time as he needs to tie up the loose ends for the show and any last minute “needs” that may have popped up over the last few days that require attention by other members of the club.

Spring is also a time to pull the classic out of the garage, clean it up and head out to local car shows. Rods on the Bluff held its first Friday meet on the 6th of April. If you need a list of local shows or swap meets contact activities chair Ron and he can answer all of your questions.

Happy Birthday to all of the April club members and especially to my wife Sharon.

In closing, if you can, please contact a member who hasn’t attended a meeting lately and invite them to Monday’s meeting.

“Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you”. Nathaniel Hawthorne 1804-1864

Pontiacs of Central California Mission Statement:

OUR MISSION, FUN!

We are made up of a group of people with various backgrounds who have one thing in common, we LOVE Pontiacs. We drive 'em, work on 'em, polish 'em, restore 'em, break 'em (even cuss 'em) and have a lot of fun doing it. Be it an old '52 Chieftain straight-eight, a new WS6 Trans Am, or anything in between.

We are individuals, couples, and families that like to get together for a variety of activities. We host an annual judged car show and participate as a club in other local and regional car shows. We have informal BBQ Show and Shines and get together for Brunch and Dinner Cruises. We also attend the local Cruise Nights as a group. The cars in the club range from Concours cars, daily drivers, drag racers and cars undergoing restoration. Our goal is to have FUN while enjoying our Pontiacs.

If this sounds like something you would enjoy, JOIN US!

Mystery Cruise

Our Mystery Cruise started out with the threat of rain with some overcast skies, but by ten o’clock the sun came out and it was a beautiful day. We met at the Chevron Gas Station on Highway 41. The Massey’s gave us instructions for the first leg of the cruise, with things we needed to locate along the way. We also guessed how many miles the cruise was going to be for a prize later.

The first leg took us up Highway 41 where we cruised around the North side of Millerton Dam. We ending up at the Twenty-0ne Mile gas station, where we got our instructions for the second leg of our trip, and got to stretch our legs. The second leg took us North on 41, and we went through Yosemite Lakes and stopped at the Club House for our final instructions of the cruise. This leg took us to the town of Raymond, to the Raymond General Store. The General Store takes you back approximately 100 years with its rustic setting. They were prepared and had it all set up for us to have lunch. We all ordered food on our own. After lunch the prizes were given out. Winners were Mary Walters, Jan Coppola, Richard and Kay Borough. I think you will agree everyone that went, had a wonderful time! Thank you Brian and Janet Massey for all you hard work putting this together!! Ron Berglund

The 28th Annual Bass Lake Lion Antique and Classic Boat Show

May 19th, 2018

Back in the fall of 1990, Fig Garden Lions Club, Phil Gunner brought Brian Wilkinson to Fig Garden Lions meeting to discuss a proposal to co-sponsor a boat show at Ducey’s. Brian, Director of Sales and Marketing for Ducey’s and Phil, a boat enthusiast, sold the Lion the idea and the First Antique & Classic Wooden Boat Concourse D’Elegance was born. Glory Beall, the Northern California-Lake Tahoe Chapter president, put together the first two chapter Antique and Classic Boat Society show in the United States. The Southern California Chapter is the other half of the show. In year three, the name was shortened to the Antique and Classic Wooden Boat Show. At the request of Fig Garden Lion Stewart Koehler the Bass Lake Lions, assumed sponsorship in 2002. Since then the name was once again shortened and last year The Pontiac Car Club joined this event.

The event begins at 9:00 AM and is over at 4:00 PM on May 19th at Bass Lake. It is held at the Pines Marina in the Bass Lake Water Sports area. Tickets are sold for $5.00. This year we will be having two separate raffles. A beautiful quilt will be raffled for a dollar a ticket. A second raffle will have many gifts and gift certificates, those tickets are also a dollar. Music and Tommy’s (Marina Grill) will be available for you to enjoy. A trophy will be given For People’s Choice of the car show.

Pontiac Car Club: Suggested arrival time 8am. All drivers and one passenger may enter for free. Driver and one guest will be offered a free lunch from Bass Lake Marina Grill. We look forward to seeing you there.

Contact: Janie at Bass Lake Water Sport (559-642-3000) or Lion Tony King (559-676-5448)

Janie Long, of the Bass Lake Classic Boat Show, contacted our Pontiac Club regarding the show, to be held May 19th, 2018.

This will be our Pontiac Club activity for May, as we have been invited to show our cars at this event. They suggest arriving by 8 am. All drivers and one passenger may enter for free. The driver and one guest will be offered a free lunch from the Bass Lake Marina Grill. Ron and I will be going up May 17th for the show and staying at the Bass Lake RV resort in our 5th wheel. If anyone would like to join us the price is $56.50 per night/RV, if you have Coast to Coast it is $12.00/night, and if you have Good Sam’s it is approx. 18.50/night. If you don’t have a RV they have cabins (which are so-so). The cabin rates are for 2 people $80.00/night, 4 people $106.00/night, 2 Bedroom $144.00/night, 3 Bedroom $180.00/night. There is a clubhouse on the premises and we could plan a potluck and get together if there is enough interest, though we would be sharing the clubhouse with other people who want to be there, they do not reserve it for a group to have it alone. The clubhouse is quite big and there is a kitchen available to use. They are saying that they are getting filled up already, something else is going on during that time and they have a large group coming in for a two week period. Camping is on a first come, first serve basis, as far as getting the spot you want to camp. You will need our membership # to be able to make a reservation, and we have to be camping there at the same time. We will be camping May 17th – May 20th, call us if you want to camp with us and we will give you our membership number, use this number when making a reservation along with my name (Willa Harkey-Berglund). If you are not familiar with this campground, it is right next to Bass Lake, within walking distance of Ducey’s and the shops. The Bass Lake RV Resort’s address is 39744 Rd. 274, Bass Lake, CA 93604, ph# office 559-642-3148, reservations 559-642-3145. You can look up the park on line for further information about the RV Park. A BIG drawback is the lack of extra parking space there in the park, parking is at a premium, but there IS some extra parking….I’m just worried about it being a busy weekend and the park being full, so good luck to us!

Solvang Car Show

August 25th, 2018

Bob Stokes from the Wheels N’ Windmills Car Show in Solvang has contacted our Club to attend this year’s show. Bob indicated that the show is going to be

televised by “My Classic Car”, hosted by Dennis Gage.

Registration opens the middle of May, and they only have spaces for 300 cars. Dennis Simonson and I have been invited back because of previous year’s awards. If you are interested in attending this car show, it is imperative that you get your

entry fee in early, as this is a very popular show. Make your hotel reservation early as well. They always make this a fun show with a poker run for the ladies, lots of good eats, last year there was a BBQ on Friday night and some really nice cars. I

hope you plan to attend!
