SurfacePreparationAllsurfacesmustbecured,clean,dry,andfreefromdirt,dust,rust,stains,grease,oil,mildew,wax,efflorescence,bond-breakersandothercontaminants.Removeallloose,peeling,orchalkypaintbysanding,scraping,oranyotherappropriatemethods.Repairallcracks,holes,andothersurfaceimperfectionswithasuitablepatchingmaterial.Repairedsurfacesshouldthenbesandedsmooth,dustedcleanandprimedwithasuitableColortek®primer.
Newplasterormasonrysurfacesmustbeallowedtocure(28days)beforeapplyingbasecoat.Curedplastershouldbehard,haveaslightsheenandmaximumpHof10;soft,porousorpowderyplasterindicatesimpropercure.Knifeoffanyprotrusionsandprimetheplasterbeforeandafterapplyingpatchingcompound.Pouredorpre-castconcretewithaverysmoothsurfaceshouldbeetchedorabradedtopromoteadhesion,afterremovingallformreleaseagentsandcuringcompounds.Removeanypowderorlooseparticles.
Aflatortruesubstrateisvitaltoachievehighqualityresultsasanybumpsorimperfectionsmayshowupinthefinishedsurface.WhilstpolishedplasterwillbondadequatelytoMDF,greatcareshouldbetakenwhenusingitasasubstrateasitwilltendtocrackalonganyjoint.
