Child Mental Health Policy Research Fellowship Application Instructions
Eligibility Requirements
• Must be able to attend the Summer Institute from May 4th-8th, 2020 (in St. Louis, MO) • Early career researchers with doctoral degrees in medicine, social work, psychology, health
services, nursing, anthropology, public health, education • Demonstrated interest or concurrent experience relevant to children’s mental health policy
research, such as analysis of the impact of state or federal mental health policies on individual or systems-level outcomes
• Prior experience writing a grant for external federal funding or comparable funding (e.g. a National Institute of Health F31, R03, R34/R21, or K award)
• A home institution with an on-site mentor who can support Fellow’s progress in grant writing and scholarly publication

NIH Biosketch of Two Mentors
Biosketches for up to two mentors at your home institution who will support you in your future applications for external federal grant funding, including the mentor who provides a letter of recommendation and completes the Qualtrics Survey (see below).

Two Letters of Recommend-ation and Completion of Qualtrics Survey
Two letters of recommendation (recommended format, attached) are needed: (1) one from your supervisor, dean, or department chair; and (2) one from a senior level MD/PhD who will commit to be an accessible home-institution mentor and work toward the applicant’s goal of submitting at least one competitive grant proposal to NIH in the substantive areas of the children’s mental health policy research (during the year that the candidate would be a fellow, from April 1, 2020 - March 31, 2021). In addition to completing a letter of recommendation, your mentor should also complete a short Qualtrics survey, available here (http://sswwustl.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1zFtzzcG9QMelBb). Letters of recommendation should be sent to Ms. Stacey McCrary, ([email protected]) by January 27, 2020.

Research Concept Paper
A research concept paper (<3, single-spaced pages, size 12 font) that provides an analysis of the children’s mental health policy research problem to be addressed through the proposed research, its background, and its significance to the field. Please include: (1) The research aims to be explored and how they relate to the NIMH PAR, “Advanced Laboratories for Accelerating the Reach and Impact of Treatments for Youth and Adults with Mental Illness (ALACRITY) Research Centers” and the NIMH Strategic Plan; and (2) the methods or approaches to be used; (3) the institutional support to be provided; (4) the mentor support to be provided .
