Poker test for independence is based on the frequency with which certain digits are repeated in a series of numbers.

Consider example 0.255, 0.577, 0.331, 0.414, 0.828,

0.909, 0.303, 0.001, …

In a three digit number there are three possibilities of repetition

1.The individual numbers can all be different

2.The individual numbers can all be same

3.There can be one pair of like digits

Associated probabilities

P( three different digits ) = P( second different from the first) *P( third different from first and second)

=(0.9)(0.8)

=0.72

P( three like digits ) = P( second digit same as the first)

*P( third digit same as the first) =( 0.1) ( 0.1) =0.01

P( exactly one pair) =1-0.72-

0.01 =0.27
