Note: This poem was composed with letters from the first and last names of the studentsattending Birchwood Blue Hills Charter School (BBHCS) during a 2.5 hour seminar by Prof.Lee Friederich, April 3, 2012. Inspiration for this poem came from poet Chuck Rybak and hispoem Letters Home. The poem (not including the title) uses only and all of the letters fromthe names - no more, no less. All misspellings are intentional, usually for emphasis. (Thentheres kallijj, a phonetic spelling of where most of the students are headed post-high school,

and the last word is a shortened version of the more traditional The End.)

    Another Dad

    By:Adara Glenz

Note: This poem is a overall picture of my life during the divorce of my parents. It begins telling

about my biological father and then gets into where I call my step-father dad. It shows my

siblings, Max and Jaydas feelings and how I feel they saw it.

    For Dad:

I used to believe that you were the one who made things right

Standing up for yourself and your family

    I waited for days

    Weeks

    Months

    Almost a year

    Then you called

We cried saying I didnt want to see you

That you made my life worse

    That is all you did

You promised things you never brought

    You got us excited

Saying we would be able to spend nights with you

    You ruined it

By coming to meet us at the wrong time

    You saw your mistake

    5/21

We said it wasnt your fault

    But it was

    Max, too young to understand

too young to see what you did

He believes you are a hero

    A spider-man

Jayda, confused with what is happening

She only sees the worst of what is happening

    She still calls you dad

    But why?

Mom started going out with friends from work

Then she started hanging with a guy

    Mom was his boss

    It was weird

    Then came mom and Matt

    they were dating

    Max was okay with it

He didnt know what to feel

    Jayda, whole different story

    upset

    crying

I tried to tell her it would be okay

that everything would be right in the end

After being with Matt and Mom for a while

    I began...

    To love him

    To know him

    To call him dad

To be able to tell him this

When my biological dad wasnt there for me

    Matt was

Jayda and Max began to do the same

    Showing love

This poem doesnt even begin to show how much I appreciate him. I just want Matt to know how

    much he means to me.

    How I Remember You

    By: Beth Trude

    Dear Great Grandpa Hanson,

I never really got to know you too well. I remember you, you and grandma sitting in the

same chairs every time I visited. You never seemed to leave that chair.

Your house has always seemed to interest me, it seemed so large compared to mine. It

was brown and I remember it on a quiet street with many pretty trees. My second cousins live

there now. Many things are different in that house, but yet so similar. Sometimes I still walk up

to that cupboard where you had all the candy and I open it hoping that maybe that chocolate is

still there. But no. Now all that I see is kitchen supplies.

Going to your house was always a treat for me and my brothers. We would sit around

that huge counter and you would give us ice cream. You always bought the kind that was in little

plastic containers with just the right amount of ice cream.

I dont remember too many things about you, my Dad tells me stories though. One of

the stories I hear most often was when we went to your house when there was a big tornado.

At that time we didnt have a basement for protection from a tornado and my mom says my dad

drove crazy to your house (probably speeding). Once we entered your house we saw you and

grandma in your chairs. My brother and I were in our pajamas and exhausted but yet there you

two were. With calm expressions. Almost as if there wasnt anything happening. That's how

mom and dad explain it anyway, they always have a smile on their face when they tell me and

    my brothers.

Family reunions always took place at your house, mainly because your house was so

large. Easter parties, Thanksgiving parties or even just random parties were always celebrated

at your house. I still have faint memories of a dog that was always at your house, but I cant

seem to remember if it was even yours.

You and Grandma eventually moved into a smaller house. It was really pretty and cute,

but the only thing I didnt like was if you looked out a window you were most likely going to see

an identical house just like yours. I liked your old house where you could see nothing but trees

and a road. There was so much more to look at at your old house.

I have better memories of when we came to you smaller house, just because I was

older. Whenever we came to that house we would dress up in nice church clothes and I

remember my dad telling my brothers and I to be on our best behaviour. We would try to be

as quiet as possible, course for my 3 little brothers that was difficult. Luckily though I dont

remember any of us getting into too much trouble.

Even though I dont have the strongest memories of you I do know that you are a

wonderful great grandpa and I will always remember you.

    With much love,

    Beth Trude

    Death Brings Beauty

    by Kayla Hartl

The beat of a drum, the strum of a guitar, even a smooth voice can have a foot tapping.

Small town boys hit the big city lights. Greatest band that hit America, some would say.

The first band to have a beat and use it in their name, The Beatles.

Death brings a tear to everyones eyes, but after the death of these two you could hear

hundreds cry. John, giving people the hope for peace and finding that special someone

to support you the entire way. Even when it came to your death. George, he was sick

from the start. A dirty habit he created also killed him. Lung cancer brought an end to

his life while his music gave life to other people.

Music still rings through their old souls although their young days are long gone. Paul,

pulling through a lot still is in the business of music. The death of both his first wife

and his band gave him the boost to continue on while for some people it would have

dragged them down. Ringo, you just came out with another CD! You still have your

young spirit and will continue to create more music for the world to love.

The death of The Beatles was not only sad but it also created beauty. Through each

members point of view more music was produced for more people to love.

    Dear Mother Poem

    By: Meredith Harrington

    Dear Mother,

You gave me life, you raised me to be the person that I am today and the person

that I will become one day. You taught me to think of others, not just myself. You were

there for me when I needed love, ideas, and your thoughts. Im thankful that Im not like

my cousins and spoiled like they are. Im glad Im the way I am, and proud of how I treat

others and how Im doing in school.

You were my voice when I didnt want to speak, and you talked to the people

that I didnt want to talk to. You told me how I didnt want talk to my own grandma until

I was 5 years old. Now I can talk to anybody I want to. Mother you raised me with little

help from dad, little money, and not a lot of space in our homes. You gave us want we

needed to be helpful in our lives and to be my helpful in others lives. You are there in

    our dreams, thoughts, our hearts.

My Mother made her children work for the things they wanted. She had us get

jobs to help pay for food, gas for the cars, stuff for the animals, and bills. Mother got us

into a good school and we are meeting new people, having fun with our new friends.

She got us in a good community to grow up in. We are going to make a difference in

the world and make it better place for our children and their children. You were amazing

Mother, I will love and miss you.

    Your loving daughter,

    Meredith

    Energy DrinksTyler Herricks

This project started with an idea. This idea started when I noticed that teens are drinking energy

    drinks.

Most of these drinks were MONSTER and RED BULL.I got curious and wanted to know why they are being drunk and what is in them.

The project was okay with all the research and you know, making note cards of all the facts that

    you found.

The fun really started when I got the opportunity to work with a lady named Bobby Robotka.

I never would of been given the opportunity to work with Bobby if Mr. Brunclik didnt bring it up.

As the clock ticked and time went by, I felt no effect on me.

But, as my results came in, there was a slight change in my heart rate and even my blood

    pressure went up.

    Macho Memories

    By Kyle Smith

You electrified the Silverdome with 93,173 people cheering you on,

You were different for your time; no one dared do the things you did,

Jumping from a the top rope never occurred as a smart move,

And not to mention the capes and glasses that never could be beat,

You proclaimed yourself as a Tower of Power, too sweet to be sour,

But at one time fans saw you as the sour Dynamite of the Mega-Powers,

After Hogan left the Federation you followed months after,

And took WCW by storm and brought Slim Jims with him

But you joined the n.W.o and we all wondered why you did,

WCW and the fans needed you but you turned your back again,

You thought it was the smart thing to do,

But you changed your mind again,

You turned on Eric Bischoff and the crowd began to roar,

You switched black and white for black and red,

And then it was just black,

In 2000 you left and we thought you would never come back,

    You came to TNA Wrestling,

    But didnt do much there,

You had one match and then you were gone,

On May 20th, 2011 you had a heart attack behind the wheel,

    And crashed into a tree,

It was a tragic end that was way too soon,

Sad and devastated was most of the wrestling world

Now will you ever be forgotten?

    Probably not,

But will you be missedOOOOH YEAH! DIG IT!!!!!

The Best Thing That Has Ever Happened To MeBy: Annesa Loew

    4-4-2012

When people ask you, What is the

best thing that has ever happened to

    you? What would you say?

Would you say that you got an Xbox for

Christmas or that your parents won the

lottery? How about you found out you

are going to get a car for your sixteenth

birthday? Or even that you get to go ona six month cruise in the Bahamas?

What about having that one dream best

    friend that everybody wants?

Not me! I wouldnt say that it is having

all the money in the world or having

all the popularity in the school, shooting

a world record buck, or being the worlds

strongest person. I would pick something

that means even more to me than my

    name in a book.

Honestly, the best thing that has ever

happened to me would be my little sister

Alijah. I know that we fight - ALL THE TIME,

but she is my sister and I love her.

I dont always show it because she irritates me like

crazy. I wouldnt have somebody to tell me

I was a great sister because I let her do

something nobody else lets her do. I wouldnthave somebody to tell me, Im the younger one

and you should be the one doing this job, not me!

and I wouldnt have somebody to tell me that I am

the best thing that has ever happened to them.

    The Great White Buffalo

    by: Jake Schmitz

You had it once but lost it.

The one that got away, the great white buffalo,

    it haunts your dreams,

always in sight but never caught.

When you're alone it will appear,

when you close your eyes it will be there,

when its quiet you can hear its voice.

You will be torn apart by what could have been.

No matter how old you get you will remember your great white buffalo.

    The ChiffonierBy: Lee Pisa

Footsteps echoed down the cobblestone streets filling the absent space with afeeling of uncertainty building a dark sentiment within the few midnight dwellers. Little did thepeople of Yorkshire know that the footsteps heard belonged to a not so innocent individual

ambling furtively in the protective grasp of the darkness. The stranger impedes his walk in frontof an unyielding door, rummages through his trench coat pocket and pulls out a key. He creepstowards the door, looks left then right as if to check for an advancing adversary. He slips the keyinto the keyhole with little effort and turns, the door creaks open and he tentatively steps inside. The interior of the house is dark, stuffy and to the strangers surprise has a moist dirt floor. Hetakes a subtle look around and eases the door shut behind him. He is content with the silentmaneuvers he has made to escape the watchful eye of curious Yorkshire citizens. As a resulthis shoulders drop with relief, he continues with his mission. Little did he know that largertroubles lay amidst his daring and selfish quest. He finds what he is looking for, the chiffonier, located in the left corner of the room. He delicately opens it with care and it eats him alive, selfishness and all.
