Cliché Poem

Writing poems is a piece of cake

Easy as can be

It takes little effort

And no time at all

Sometimes poetry is a good method

Of getting your points across effective

As they say in a different perspective

The pen is mightier than the sword

It is a bed of roses

Much simpler than proses

But can be a bit of a pain

Sometimes poetry has me foaming at the mouth

Topics are hard to think of, easy to forget

Losing your mind is a serious threat

Sometimes poetry is a good method

Of getting your points across effective

As they say in a different perspective

The pen is mightier than the sword

Sometimes topics are too controversial

They seem to stir up a hornet’s nest

After all the work that’s been done

You appear as one big pest

Extended Metaphor

Poetry is Mountain Biking

Finding the perfect location is

Thinking of a topic, the perfect foundation for your masterpiece to be built on.

The shovels are pencils, the perfect tool to craft a work of art.

The earth is the seamless canvas, to draw the flowing trail upon.

Poetry is Mountain Biking

Crafting the smoothest trail is like

Finding the perfect rhyme that lets the poem roll off your tongue

Like the perfect jump off which you are flung.

Packing dirt, carefully refining the ups and downs of the trail,

Searching for words that fit in and do not fail.

Poetry is Mountain Biking

Riding the finished creation,

Is presenting the perfect poem

Rolling smoothly off all the features is like

Reading a poem in perfect fluidity

Feeling the accomplishment at the bottom of the trail

Is hearing the symphony of applause as you finish the poem.

Sonnet

When forests are flattened, it makes me think

Why do humans love to destroy nature?

Seeing the environment die and shrink,

Makes me wonder why we aren’t more mature

Watching the rivers become polluted,

Fills my mind with overwhelming sadness

Forests are pulled from the ground, uprooted

Watching this fills me with a cruel madness

There is still a chance to rescue the land

A chance to save the world from its sad doom

We must stop this crime, give the Earth a hand

This sorrow doing, and let flowers bloom

Even after the damage is finished

There is still time to fix what diminished

Two Tone

Sometimes I am a pulsating yellow

Full of life, energy

Vibrant and powerful

Ready to conquer my day

Other times I am midnight blue

Weary, sluggish

And drained of energy

Wanting nothing more than sleep

Today I am midnight Blue, a lifeless blob of weariness.

Persona

Vancouver

Vancouver is a vibrant young lady

Filled with rich culture and heritage

Nicknamed Van City

Born in 1886 to British parents

She is full of energy,

Waking up to sounds of people rushing through Robson Street and the smell of fresh food

But she is also tranquil,

Sleeping to the silent beauty of Stanley Park, a beautiful landscape

She dresses trendy, and elegant

Spending her nightlife on Robson, her Saturdays on Granville Island

She is wealthy and classy, but still knows how to have fun

She stuns the world with her beauty, from the skyline, to the mountains to the ocean.

Free Verse

Waterfalls

The gushing sound entices me

I am drawn in by the beautiful voice

My eyes fall on the cascading shower

The splendid flow of blue fills me with awe

I am stunned by the sheer magnificence of this sight

It is pleasing to all the senses,

The powerful sound of water crashing down,

The smell of mist, flowing across the surface of the oasis

The wonderful sight of liquid silver sinking through the sky

Waterfalls mesmerize me, they achieve the near impossible,

Being one of the most powerful forces on Earth, yet still one of the most peaceful.
