ROWLAND FLAT WINE HERO CELEBRATED The Bruce Thiele Red Wine Club will raise a glass To Barossa Legend and fa-vourite son Bruce Thiele at a special Dinner at the Rowland Flat Centre on Tuesday 22nd of November. It is fitting that this recognition is held at Row-land Flat. Just across the road from the Rowland flat centre is the Orlando Winery where Bruce's star shone bright. A limited number of non member guests will be invited to celebrate the Occasion. See barossa.com It was way back in the 1960's when Bruce Thiele, a teenage farmer's son, started his lifelong affair with the Barossa wine industry. It was a love that grew with each passing year and he was faithful to the end. Bruce joined Or-lando Wines in 1978 as Warehouse Manager. His enthusiasm and infectious personality soon saw him promoted to Orlando Public Relations. This is where Bruce Thiele, the Barossa farm boy, found his niche. Bruce quickly be-came the face of Orlando. In 1994 he was inducted as a Baron of the Barossa and went on to become the Grand Master. Bruce passed in October 2007 and he left many legacies. Not the least of these was the Red Wine Club that he founded. This is now one of our oldest wine clubs In his honour it is now known as the Bruce Thiele Red Wine Club. Bob Heinicke from Lyndoch and the Bruce Thiele Red Wine Club said " ac-knowledging our Barossa Icons is a culture that defines our Barossa heritage. The toast to Bruce Thiele will be made with a special Bruce Thiele labelled Red wine made by Orlando. Prominent Lyndoch identity and Winemaker Rick Burge will host a tasting of various winemakers Pinots in an interactive and informative session prior to dinner. Food by the Barossa Traveller Food & Wine Society will be wine matched with the Pinot used at Dinner. First time Guests for the Salute to Bruce Thiele night will be subsidized by Bruce Thiele Red Wine Club. For first time guest information ring Peter Frick 042 368 3964

Some sad news - for those of you who are regulars to the Lyndoch Community Market, you may know Ken and Maureen who usually have their stall full to the brim with handmade greeting cards. Unfortunately after a relatively short illness, Ken passed away on 27 October. On behalf of the market stallholders, condolences go out to Maureen and his other family members. I am sure he will be sorely missed.

LYNDOCH HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Lyndoch Historical Society held its Annual General Meeting recently. Ivan Randall was re-elected as President, Quentin Nuske, Vice President, and Anne Hausler, Secretary/Treasurer. Elected to the committee were Jack and June Filsell, Margaret and Shane Sloan, Amelia Rozycki and Donna Brand. Following the meeting the Society turned back time one hundred years to 1916 with a power point display of that period in the town’s history.

On 20th July 1916 a farewell social for the Crambrook family was held. Mr Crambrook had started business nineteen years ago in the corner store. He was involved in the Rifle Club, Institute and had been librarian since the opening of the new Institute. He was presented with a Morris chair. This 100 year old chair is now on display in the Society’s rooms. The next meeting for the Historical Society will take place on Tuesday 13th December, Lyndoch Naming Day. It will commence at 6.00 p.m. at the Pioneer Park where a plaque to indicate the 175th Anniversary Tree will be unveiled. This will be followed by the annual ceremony at Light’s cairn in Fiebig Square. At 6.30 a power point display will be shown of the unveiling of the William Light Monument that occurred earlier in January. Afterwards there will be a shared community tea. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
