The pneumatic rack and pinion actuators are required to
operate in a variety of applications. Die Erste realizes that
the performance of the actuators is significantly
important to your production process. Therefore, our
pneumatic rack and pinion actuators have been
designed, developed and tested using the newest
technology, materials and innovation, providing excellent
usage in various industrial environments.

Air supplied to Port “A” forces the piston
to move counter clockwise while the
exhaust air exits from Port “B”.
Air supplied to Port “B” forces the piston to
move clockwise while exhaust air exits
from Port “A”.
Air supplied to Port “A” forces the pinion to
move counter- clockwise to compress the
spring while exhaust air exits from Port “B”.
Upon loss of air pressure (air or electric
failure) at Port “A “ the spring forces the
pinion to move clockwise while exhaust air
exits from Port“B”.
Depending on the air supply, spring function and valve’s
torque, there are different spring combinations available
ranging from 2 to 6 springs in each end cap. Tip: Because of
the position of the racks, it is recommended for the spring
arrangement to install springs where the rack that comes in
contact with piston surface is positioned, in order to
compensate for the non-uniformity of forces caused by the
asymmetry of the racks.kasymmetry of the racks.

The standard lubricant is suitable for application from
-20°C to +80°C (-4°F to +176°F).
Twin piston rack and pinion design, offering constant
output torque, compact design and internal balance,
is suitable for indoor and outdoor installation.
Bottom drilling to mach valve is in accordance with
ISO5211/DIN3337. Interface for solenoid valve, shaft
top end and top drilling to assemble accessories are in
accordance with VDI/VDE 3845, NAMUR standard.
100% fully tested.
Filtered dry or lubricated air, inert/non-corrosive gas, water
or light hydraulic oil. Note that the maximum size of particle
must not exceed 30µm.
2.5 bar (36 psi) to 8 bar (116 psi) for double acting
actuation
3 bar (44psi) to 8 bar (116psi) for spring-return actuation
Standard type: -20°C to +80°C (-4°F to +176°F)
Low temperature type: -40°C to +80°C (-40°F to
+176°F) with Silicon O-ring
High temperature type: -15°C to +150°C (+5°F to
+300°F) with Viton O-ring
Note:Note: For low and high temperature service condition, the
special grease is required. For further information, please
contact your DIE ERSTE sales.
Standard ±5° in both clockwise and counterclockwise
directions by means of adjusting screws outside the internal
air supply changers.

The actuator obtains its torque due to rotation of the pinion and
cylinder. The torque, which for this construction is linear as
shown in Figure.1, depends mainly on the diameter of the
cylinder and the supply pressure. The suggested safety factor for
double acting actuators in normal working conditions is 20%.

In the construction for single active mode, the springs are used to return the
actuator to its initial position. The torque depends not only on the diameter
of the cylinder and the supply pressure but also on strength of the springs
that have to be compressed to guarantee the return. In Figure.3, the torque
from the air stroke decreases linearly from its highest value, due to
compression of the springs and the force they exert. The return of the
cylinder is generated by the force of the springs. In the initial stage the
torque is the highest and it decreases linearly, in proportion to the decrease
of force of decompressing springs. The operation region (green region)
should cover the maximum torque the valve requires. Note that it is
recommended to apply the safety factor approximate to 20%.
