DESCRIPTIONThe nVent RAYCHEM PMK-JLP-M is a Type 4X-rated power connection kit designed for use with RAYCHEM BTV-MCT, QTVR-MCT and XTV-MCT industrial parallel monitor wire heating cables. This kit may be installed at temperatures as low as –40°F (–40°C). For easier installation store above freezing until just before installation. For technical support call nVent at (800) 545-6258.
TOOLS REQUIRED• Wire strippers • Heat gun or propane torch• Diagonal cutters • Utility knife• Needle-nose pliers• Flatblade screwdrivers, 1/8 & 1/4 inch
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS REQUIRED• 1 Grommet (see selection chart on page 2)• 1 Pipe strap (order separately)• Glass cloth tape
- GT-66 Installation temperature above 40°F (4°C) - GS-54 Installation temperature above -40°F (-40°C)
This component is an electrical device that must be installed correctly to ensure proper operation and to prevent shock or fire. Read these important warnings and carefully follow all of the installation instructions.• To minimize the danger of fire from sustained electrical
arcing if the heating cable is damaged or improperly installed, and to comply with the requirements of nVent, agency certifications, and national electrical codes, ground-fault equipment protection must be used. Arcing may not be stopped conventional circuit breakers.
• Approvals and performance are based on the use of nVent-specified parts only. Do not use substitute parts or vinyl electrical tape.
• The black heating cable core and fibers are conductive and can short. They must be properly insulated and kept dry.
• Connection kits and heating cable ends must be kept dry before and during installation.
• Damaged bus wires can overheat or short. Do not break bus wire strands when scoring the jacket or core.
• Use only fire-resistant insulation materials, such as fiberglass wrap or flame-retardant foam.
• Heat damaged components can short. Use a heat gun or torch with a soft, yellow, low-heat flame. Keep the flame moving to avoid overheating, blistering, or charring the heat-shrinkable tubes. Avoid heating other components. Replace any damaged parts.
HEALTH HAZARD: Over heating heat-shrinkable tubes will produce fumes that may cause irritation. Use adequate ventilation and avoid charring or burning. • Determine correct grommet (order separately) from chart below.
WARNING: Use of the wrong grommet can result in leaks, cracked components, shock or fire, and will invalidate approvals and certifications.
18 in(46 cm)
2
• Allow approximately 18 in (46 cm) of heating cable for installation.
3
• Slide parts onto heating cable.
7 1/2 in(190 mm)
4
• Lightly score outer jacket.
• Bend heating cable to break jacket at score, then peel off jacket.
WARNING: Do not cut through braid into inner jacket. This could result in a short circuit.

7
For XTV-MCT Only:• Remove plastic wrap.
5
• Push braid back toward outer jacket to create a pucker.
• At pucker, open braid using screwdriver.
9 1/2 in(241 mm)
Monitor wire
• Lightly score partially around inner jacket as shown. Do not score jacket over monitor wire.
WARNING: Damaged monitor wire insulation can cause a short. Do not score inner jacket next to the monitor wire.
• Bend heating cable to break jacket at score, then peel off jacket. Use diagonal cutters to remove remaining jacket next to monitor wire.

1 in(25 mm)
16
• Seat grommet and position parts so that 1 in. (25 mm) of heating cable outer jacket extends past top of threads.
• Tighten screws.
Pipe strap
17
• Fasten base to pipe with strap.
• Loop and tape extra heating cable to pipe.
• Install sealing ring.
18
• Install box with locknut.
Instructions for Using a Heat Gun or Torch:• Read important warnings on Page 1 and follow safety
precautions provided with heat gun or torch.• When using a torch use a soft yellow, low-heat flame. Apply
just enough heat to do the job.• Keep torch or heat gun moving continuously to distribute the
heat evenly to avoid overheating, blistering or charring the heating cable and heat-shrinkable tubes.
• Replace any heat-damaged parts.
13
• Slide two black tubes onto bus wires and green/yellow tube onto braid. 1/2 in
(13 mm)
14
• Center clear yellow tube over end of base jacket.• Heat tube until it shrinks and adhesive flows out ends.
While still hot, pinch between wires and hold for 5 seconds.
• Use a heat gun or propane torch to heat tubes until they are fully recovered.
Note: See Step 15 for proper heating techniques.
