“SETTING”) Click on
“Open folder to view
files”
Open the file called
Setup Reader Library
for Windows.
In order for your Sony
Reader to work, you
must install the
software the comes
loaded on the device,
even if you are just
going to use the
library’s ebooks
The program will
walk you through
the installation
process
Choose English
and click “Next”
Click “Next”
You will wait
through several
screens. You won’t
have to do anything
here…

continue the
installation

accept the “End User
License Agreement”
to continue. Click
“Next” to continue

Click “Install” here
The program
is now being
installed

now installed.
Click “Finish.”
The program may
automatically open the
website for the Reader
Store. This is where you
can purchase ebooks
from Sony. Close or
minimize this window
for now.
If you are going to use ebooks
from the library, you need to
check “Don’t ask again” and click
“No” on this screen.
O.k. this is the tricky part. The Sony
Reader uses its own software (which
you have just installed), but the
library’s ebooks use Adobe Digital
Editions (which we will install in a
moment). We want the files to be
associated with Adobe Digital
Editions, not the Sony Reader
Software. So…
The next step is to install Adobe Digital
Editions so that you can download
ebooks from the library’s website and
load them on to your Sony Reader.
Close the Sony Reader window and open
your Internet Browser.
Go to
www.jclc.org
and click here to
start

Adobe Digital
Editions
Click here to start
the download
The link will
automatically take you
to Adobe.com
Scroll down and click on
Launch to start the
installer. (if you need
help installing Adobe
Digital Editions, click
here.
Once Adobe Digital
Editions is installed, you
will need to enter your
Adobe ID and password
If you don’t have an Adobe
ID yet, you will need to
click here to go back to
Adobe.com to obtain one

Editions Interface.
Downloaded books will
show up here
Now plug in your Sony Reader
The first time you plug in your Sony
Reader, you should get a message
asking if you want to authorize this
device, check the box here and click
Authorize Device
Your device will show up in
the column to the left.
Once you have a book
checked out, click on
Download to send it to
Adobe Digital Editions
If it doesn’t open in
Adobe Digital
Editions, click on the
downloaded file at
the bottom
The book will begin
downloading to your
computer.
The first time you download a
book it may ask you what you
want to do with the file. Make
sure Adobe Digital Editions is
selected, and check this box,
then click OK
It will show that the file
is being downloaded
The Books from the library
will usually be shown with
the book covers, but books
from other sources may
only show the title (as
shown below). Either way
will work.
Now you have to
select the file
and drag it to your Sony Reader
The book may open
automatically. To get back to
the main screen, click on the
three books in the corner.
Click on the file
picture or name and
drag it towards the
name of your device
in the left column
Once the arrow shows a green
plus sign beside it you can
release the mouse button and
the book will be added to your
Sony Reader
Now you can eject your
Sony Reader. Your books
will be on your Sony Reader.
