July Ice Cream Social

136 people attended the July Ice Cream Social held near our playground area on Monarch Lane. We offer our special thanks to Board member Kristin Rule who coordinated this celebration of sum-mer. It provided so many with an opportunity to share some yummy treats as well as to meet other residents of our community. We plan to do it again next year!

Please sign up to volunteer at SignUpGenius.com at: www.signupgenius.com/go/10c094fada62fa6f58-prosperity

Thank you to all of you who have placed your trash and recycling receptacles out of sight. Please continue to do so, and encourage other neighbors to do so, as well. We would like to also provide a gentle reminder that permission from the Board is required for exterior alterations, including color changes.

These efforts keep our neighborhood clean, tidy and ensure compliance with our architecture standards.

The Archery/Deer Management program runs from September 10, 2016- February 25, 2017. If you ever walk or jog through Eakin Park, you will see bright red signs adhered to the trees that look like the photo to the left.

To the right is a photo of a personalized ID card that each registered archer must wear. A Program Archer must also display a parking pass on the dash-board of his or her vehicle.

Archery Groups are permit-ted to conduct deer management at their assigned site Mondays through Saturdays during the Archery Program Season. Legal hunting hours in Virginia are 30 minutes pri-or to sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset. Sunday hunting is not allowed in the parks. Citizens are warned to stay on the path at all times. Archery is the primary deer management tool used in Fairfax County to help manage high density deer herds.

If you have more questions about this program, please visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/living/wildlife/archery/archery-program.htm or call 703-246-6868.

We have a new committee in the neighborhood dedicated to welcoming new neighbors! We would like to thank Lori Zeoli of Monarch Lane for spearheading this very important communi-ty service. Lori and her family are busy thinking up thoughtful ways to welcome new residents. If you would like to join the committee or volun-teer with Lori, please contact her at [email protected].

If you notice a new neighbor (owner or renter) has moved in, please contact Lori Zeoli at [email protected] or Keith Fulk at [email protected]. Each year, we have a half-dozen or more new residents moving into our neighborhood. The Welcoming Committee will enhance and build new relationships in our neighborhood.

New Prosperity Heights Welcoming Committee

Some residents have been communicating on Facebook regarding solicitors in the neighborhood. The Board has been asked to consider a sign at the entrance of the neighborhood prohibiting solicitations.

Linda Smyth (our representative on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for the Providence district), and Fairfax County shared the following information with us:

• Solicitors have a right to solicit on public streets but must have a permit

• We live on public streets so we do not have much enforcement power even if we posted a sign at the end of the street

• Other neighborhoods with gated entrances have still had solicitor issues even with signs

• It is suggested individual residences put signs at their door if they do not want solicitors and that they get the permit # of anyone who ignores the sign and report it to the police.
