Demand is rising for the cultivation of students with the ability to think independently, engage in proactive and cooperative problem finding and solving, and provide logical explanations regarding problems with no predetermined solutions. The implementation of various teaching methods by faculty members will lead to the improvement of the “Quality of Learning” for students at Waseda University. Freedom to engage in discussions, conversations,or group work as desired. Transform the typicallecture in to an opportunity for proactive learning.Proactive learning focuses not on one-way transfers of knowledge, but rather active student participation such as writing, speaking, and giving presentations. CTLT has prepared various services and equipment to stimulate free and active discussions and promote the “Transition to an Interactive Problem Finding and Solving Type of Education”.
CTLT Classrooms are medium-size classrooms that fit 40-60 people. There are whiteboards which can be used by groups of 4-8 people for group activities. Desks and chairs can be moved easily, and transitioning to group work formations after individual study sessions (8 people can easily form a horseshoe shape) is easy and fast. Students can move desks and chairs to engage in active discussions or share presentations with other students.
