OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As Catholics in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis under the patronage of Saint Joseph, in communion with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and Archbishop Carlson, we are called by our Lord Jesus Christ to be His Church and live His Gospel. With joy, we strive to fulfill our Baptismal calling by fervent prayer and worship, sound teaching and sharing our faith, serving others and fostering unity in diversity. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to be responsible stewards of all God's gifts.

If you have been inactive in the practice of your Catholic Faith, we encourage you to come home. If you would like to speak with someone please do not hesitate to contact us.

If a previous marriage has kept you from receiving the Sacraments, we invite you to contact one of the priests. In many cases we can work with you toward a favorable solution so you can again receive the Sacraments in the Catholic Church.

4 DECEMBER 15, 2019

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, So much of our prayer comes down to SURRENDER … surrendering to THY will over MY will. Isn’t that the ultimate struggle for all of us? During this Advent Season, I want to once again strongly encourage you all to pray “The Surrender Novena” given by Jesus to Fr. Dolindo Ruotolo. Day 1 of the Novena is so beautifully powerful in its simplicity. It states quite simply and quite sublimely: “Why do you confuse yourselves by worrying? Leave the care of your affairs to ME and everything will be peaceful. I say to you in truth that every act of true, blind, complete surrender to ME produces the effect that you desire and resolves all difficult situations." Freeing ourselves from worry over things we cannot control is one of the most difficult things in the world. I know it is for me. So let’s all unite ourselves in this posture of prayerful surrender during the Advent season. May God bless you all! Yours in Christ, Fr. Dan Shaughnessy

Society of St. Vincent DePaul

Preparing for Christmas by Giving to our Neighbors in Need. One of the very best ways of preparing for Christmas is to start giving gifts early -- not so much the kind of gifts we usually give to relatives and friends on Christmas, but the life-saving donations to those most in need, especially those who are living on the edge of survival. For the poor in our neighborhoods and surrounding areas, such gifts are priceless. Please consider donating to help a Neighbor in Need. It will be a real gift.

Please join us at one of our next meetings – Prayer Meeting – Weds, Jan 8th and Business Meeting – Mon, Jan 26th – both meetings are at 6:30 pm in the Imperial Room in the Corpus Christi Center.

[email protected] Prevent and Protect STL

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. Everyone ministering to minors and vulnerable adults (clergy, employees and volunteers) in the Archdiocese is required and asked to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes those new to service and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children work-shop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to https://www.preventandprotectstl.org Click Register below the Log in button. Enter the passcode stlprotect when prompted. Contact our Parish Child Safety Coordinator, Mary Truetken at 636-464-1013 ext. 109, or [email protected] with any questions or for further assistance.

Christmas Poinsettias Parishioners are invited to purchase Christmas poinsettias and decorations in memory of a loved one. The cost is $11 per poinsettia.

Please put your donation, along with the name of your loved one, in the collection basket or drop it off at the parish office.

We will have a special acknowledgement for each memorial in the bulletin the second weekend in January.

Please submit your donations by December 19. Thank you!

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! —Gaudete Sunday Gaudete Sunday—Rejoice! But true joy comes by way of true repentance, so John the Baptist reminds us. The desire for holiness, the pursuit of genuine freedom from sin and death—these are the things that inspire us first to renounce evil and then to prepare a way for Christ to enter our hearts, minds, and souls to bring not only mercy, forgiveness, healing, consolation, and peace—but also the authentic Christian joy arising from redeeming grace. (CCC 523-524, 719-720) archstl.org/dynamic
