Board Goals 2015-16 • Students Provide an educational environment that supports learning, positive peer leadership, personal health and

well-being, responsibility, service and character. Help students to acquire the skills that will enable them to integrate experience and knowledge to form reasoned judgments, solve problems and embrace positive social and ethical behaviors and be prepared to take the next educational and life step.

• Learning Cultivate a positive and motivating instructional environment that encourages students to challenge themselves and that creates a genuine love of learning while encouraging intellectual flexibility. Provide all students with a rich learning experience infused with technology that enables them to identify and follow their passions and to work effectively both individually and collaboratively.

• Curriculum - Clearly articulate our academic standards on a K-12 continuum. Communicate the knowledge, process and assessment goals for each curricular area. Encourage improvement and innovation in all curricular areas. Focus on teaching for understanding and depth of knowledge by enabling children to be successful learners, confident individuals and team contributors.

• Staff Development Create a true Learning Community that will nurture creativity, foster enthusiasm and build morale. Provide research-based and collaborative opportunities for professional development that will provide practical, relevant information and strategies to meet student needs at all levels. Evaluate all opportunities in terms of 21st century skills and learning

• Community Strengthen, nurture and engage the supportive partnership among school, home, and community. Continue to improve the meaningful flow of communication with all constituents including those who promote the health and well-being of our students and community. Create a welcoming atmosphere in all of our schools.

• Facilities - Support facility-based decisions that enhance sustainability, efficiency, creative use of instructional spaces and the educational program. Continue to maintain District buildings and property to reflect the expectation of excellence. Continue the implementation of the 2014 Bond for Facilities Infrastructure, Safety and security Improvements.

• Fiscal - Exercise sustainable fiscal responsibility while maintaining academic excellence as articulated through Pleasantville Schools 2026. Continue the transparent budget process that offers more opportunities for community input. Energize legislative outreach and community involvement in/ awareness of the legislative process.

curriculum/math literacy in grades 1-8 by drawing from existing extended learning programs that emphasize non-standard and open-ended problem solving.
