Hennessy Brings Back the 80’s With Star-Studded Event

Our team has attended many Hollywood parties and events in my time – from the low-key socials to the big high-profile galas – but none of them compare to the 2nd Annual Hennessy: Flaunt Your Taste party at The Vanguard.   The event was perfectly coordinated by the Honey Collectives –  a group of beautiful and talented female artists, DJ’s and socialites known for throwing some of L.A.’s hottest parties.  This year, Hennessy, the world’s premier cognac and the Honey Collection arranged a unique 1980’s hip-hop-themed extravaganza that drew the attendance of many hip-hop icons , break dancers, artists and an elite list of who’s who of the entertainment world.

Power Play , The 80’s and Doug E. Fresh As they arrived on the Yellow Carpet, celebrities and guests were decked out in fashionable ‘80’s throw-back gear.  From the bamboo earrings to the leg-warmers and tights, from the shell-top Adidas to the track-suits, it was a pleasant flashback to my childhood growing up in East Flatbush Brooklyn but also a realization of the outrageous fashion sense we all had during that era.  “Hennessy and the

Honey’s know how to throw a good party”, says MC Lyte, one of the featured performers along with Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick.  “I’m here to have a good time with my hip-hop family.  Tonight we’re gonna do it up old-school style”.  And they sure did.   Inside, the party was jumping !!  Delicious hor d’oeuvre’s prepared by Chef Brian from season one of Top Chef on Bravo were passed around to the packed house of party goers and open bars offered unique Hennessy concoctions like my favorite, The Hennessy Mojito.  Guests were entertained with a dynamic break-dance performance by the Groovaloos and were able to view live art installments by LA based graffiti artist, Flewnt.   The party-people reveled in nostalgia as legendary DJ “taking out you suckers and I don’t know how I did it” D-Nice spun the best of 80’s hip-hop hits.  DJ Rashida and DJ Eque added to the soiree with musical selections of their own that kept the party going into the night.  The highlight of the evening was definitely the live performances by Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick and MC Lyte – neither of whom seem to have aged a bit – who honored us with some of their greatest hits and had everyone rapping along to the lyrics.  Despite the fact that they have probably performed “La Di Da Di” and “The Show” a million times, tonight Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick put on a performance that had every guest in the house, including surprise guest, Prince, on their feet.   It was truly an amazing event and I am looking forwards to next year!
