PLAY BRIDGE ON THE INTERNET USING BRIDGE BASE ONLINE (BBO) Since the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many of Ireland's bridge clubs into temporary closure, the Regent plans to give its members a weekly on-line tournament. This can never replace the face-to-face social interaction of the game nor that feeling of 'holding the cards' but it may make any approaching 'lock-down' a little more bearable.
Accordingly, the Regent is teaming up with other CBAI clubs in the Dublin South Region to run competitions on Wednesday and Thursday evenings on BBO. Expect about 20 boards (number may vary) in these events which usually start at 7.30pm. A member of the Regent Tournament and Play Committee will usually be available to direct the tournament and to offer help before and after each event. Also, if you’re new to BBO and help is required, Declan Byrne, Regent Club Manager can be contacted by email on Wednesdays and Thursdays from hour before play until the end of play to assist Regent and Regent Academy members. If Regent players experience rudeness within its events they should advise the TD. BBO has a set of guidelines for manners while playing BBO and here is the link: https://www.bridgebase.com/help/v2help/manners_matter.html For some of our members it will be their first time to play BBO and so we ask experienced players to be tolerant and helpful towards those for whom this may be a new experience. The Opponent may have a convention card set up and this will show the meaning or the opponent will type the explanation. Have no fear.
