COSTHA continues its strong tradition of providing an annual conference that elicits praise from attendees for both content, networking opportunities, and the venue. Whether you are a first-time attendee or a long-time attendee, I’m confident you will find the meeting will generate an excellent return on your investment andtime by providing to-the-point regulatory updates, excellent networking opportunities with regulators and in-dustry peers, educational opportunities, and the chance to explore the latest product offerings at our supplierexpo.

The theme for this year’s Forum is the “Value of Compliance”. The statement is obvious to those of us who are in the compliance industry and the challenges we face daily. And, while we would all like to think that the industry as a whole understands the concept, there have been external forces at work that are making many realize that a strong compliance program will return value in many ways.

u It provides a roadmap, based on regulatory requirements and current best practices, that can be shared throughout our global supply chain.

u It enhances safety and minimizes the chance that your company might be involved in an accident or incident.

u Enforcement inspections and the threat of penalty actions are minimized.

u It removes the risk that competitors can use penalty action or any type of negative publicity against us.

u Cost savings are realized from the lack of frustrated shipments, down time for facilities, and legal fees.

In addition to the regulatory updates and best practices presentations in the plenary sessions, we will once again offer a number of complimentary industry roundtables focused on sector-specific issues as well as professional training courses including modal recurrent training and specific topic training courses recommended by last year’s attendees.

If you have attended in the past, you already know that this meeting delivers real value for you and your company and does it in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. I hope you can join us this year in San Diego and look forward to seeing you there.

Best regards,Don BossowDirector, North American Regulatory Affairs/Sealed Air Corporation and COSTHA President

VALUE OF COMPLIANCEAs transportation and compliance professionals we see firsthand that domestic and international regulations are continuing to change toward harmonized requirements or to provide for new technology or adapting to the changing global marketplace and increased manufacturing in developing countries.

And, we know the value of a strong compliance program. To help you keep ahead of the regulatory informationcurve, COSTHA and its members continually reach out to domestic and international regulatory resources to provide Forum attendees with critical information and networking contacts to ensure your products continue to move safely through the global supply chain to provide value to your compliance program.

Tragic incidents and new regulations are pushing increased enforcement and inspection across all modes.

GHSAs the various GHS implementation and training deadlines come and go confusion reigns in the transportationarena. We’ve expanded the plenary session by adding a roundtable to provide the resources we all need to workthrough this challenging time.

LEGAL & LEGISLATIVE REVIEW Association Counsel, Rick Schweitzer, noted transportation attorney, will discuss ongoing initiatives. Many of the recent rulemakings and announcements we have seen from the Pipeline and Hazardous MaterialsSafety Administration (PHMSA) and other federal transportation agencies are the direct result of the transporta-tion bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century or “MAP-21.” Title III of the legislation focuses on the safetransportation of hazardous materials by all modes of transportation and provides resources to the Pipeline andHazardous Materials Safety Administration to continue to carry out its critical safety mission.

Highlights impacting PHMSA include –

Join this interactive session to see how this legislation will continue to impact your operations.

The COSTHA AnnualForum provides one of the best avenues for industry Hazardous MaterialsProfessionals to bebrought up to date on changes and trends affecting our business.
