Over 12 million trees have been planted, restoring healthy watersheds and creating a foundation for life. New crops are ending hunger. 450 loan groups have been created in 350 villages, sowing the seeds of prosperity. HOW PLANT WITH PURPOSE BRINGS HOPE We believe that the worlds one billion rural poor are the greatest untapped resource in the world. Plant With Purpose walks alongside farmers, equipping them to use their own God-given talents to improve their lives, provide for their children and restore the planet.

Environmental Restoration. By restoring land through reforestation and sustainable farming methods, new life is born in a weary land. Rivers and springs return to places where they had vanished. Trees, Gods natural filter, help to purify the water and protect families from disease.

Economic Opportunity. New farming techniques allow families to improve yields, ending hunger and increasing household income. Village Savings and Loan groups empower families to create a financial safety net and provide loans for business development, childrens education, health care and more.

Spiritual Renewal. Plant With Purpose works with local churches to strengthen and support their discipleship efforts, allowing individuals to experience Gods love and bringing about truly sustainable change.

In communities where others might see desperation, we see places of possibilitywhere people are known for what they can do, not for what they lack.

Yet, there is hope. As farmers learn sustainable ways to restore their land, families and communities begin to thrive. They begin to use their own abilities to live with God-given hope and dignity.

Environmental degradation turns fertile land into wasteland and destroys the chance for families to grow food or earn an income.

It destroys hope and diminishes dignity.

    BEFORE AFTER

Bryant Myers has said that the poor deserve more than gifted amateurs. At Plant With Purpose our commitment is to offer professional, continually improving development opportunities, using metrics to gauge effectiveness.

In recent years that has meant the adoption of the Village Savings and Loan methodology, and an increasingly effective agricultural model. It has also meant that we have been able to reduce our cost-per-beneficiary by 50%, allowing us to bring about greater transformation for more people, less expensively.

Satellite imagery and remote monitoring technology is allowing us to measure effectiveness of reforestation efforts. Water quality monitoring is allowing us to see the downstream impacts of our watershed work.

Our Plant for Tomorrow Campaign will allow us to accelerate this trajectory of community development that transforms lives.

    RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

Many communities are requesting our help. We desire to meet this demand by expanding existing country programs by 200 villages. Our growth in Tanzania is an example of what is possible.

In 2005, Plant With Purpose began working with a handful of families in a deforested area of Tanzania. That year, farmers planted 320 trees. The next year we served 625 people and started 4 savings-and-loan groups. Seven years later, the impact has grown to serve 25,000 people, with 190 savings-and-loan groups in 64 communities. This represents an annual growth rate of 73% in the number of families equipped to improve their lives. At the same time Tanzania programs budget grew by only 18% annually.

In 2013, Plant With Purpose equipped Tanzanians to plant 1.4 million trees, put hundreds of thousands of dollars of their own money to work, plant hundreds of vegetable gardens and mobilize the talents of the marginalized. The gospel has been shared in a winsome way and people have learned to live out their faith. Water-related illness decreased, savings increased and nutrition improved for thousands of children.

The Tanzania program demonstrates how a small investment can dramatically multiply impact, as economies of scale are reached and best practices applied. But we have only begun to meet the need.

In Ethiopia, Plant With Purpose has the unique opportunity to work with the local church to preserve some of the last remaining native forest in the country. These forests, carefully preserved by the church for centuries, are irreplaceable treasure troves of biodiversity, seriously threatened by poverty and poor agricultural practice.

Just a few miles from our work in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo suffers from extreme poverty, deadly conflict and shocking environmental scars. Through our watershed approach, Plant With Purpose has the opportunity to offer reconciliation and hope to communities and to former militants, while restoring and preserving stunning wildlife habitat.
