ENTITLED WEST VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS, STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, ROADS AND BRIDGES, ADOPTED 1986, AS AMENDED BY THE WEST VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS, SUPPLEMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS, JAN. I, 1992 THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, AND THE CONTRACT PLANS ARE THE GOVERNING PROVISIONS APPLICABLE TO THIS PROJECT.
TEMPORARY FENCE \
TEMPORARY FENCE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE CONTRACT TO CONTROL THE ANIMAL STOCK IN THIS AREA, AND SHALL BE PLACED AT THE DIRECTION OF THE PROJECT ENGINEER. EXCAVATION:
No excavati on is to be classified as Rock Excavation . All excavation, within th e limits shown below, shall b e paid for as Structure Excav ation, Item 212 - 1. Rock and shale shall be excavated and pa i d f or und er this classification to the ne at lin es of th e f oot ings only.
All other e xcava ti on , wit hin the limits shown below, shall be paid for a s un c lassified Excavation, Ite m 207-01, in Roadwa y ' s qua ntities.
Any sh o ring required shall be incidental to It em 212 -1 .
SELECT EMB ANKMENT
Payment f or Select Embankment shall be included in Rock Borrow Excavation, Item 211 - 2, with a 1 .0 cubic fo ot mini mum size.
BACKFILL :
The Contr a cto r shall backfill a round the substructure as soon as possible after f orm re moval an d slope the surfa ces to drain .
JOINT FILLER:

P ILING'
All piling shall be HP12X53 ste e l bearing piles.
All HP12X53 piling shall have a maximum desi gn load of 70 to ns.
Pi ling shall be driven t o refusal i nto t he f oundatlon strata as indicated by the e stimated pile lengths, or the pile tip elevations . Refusal is defined as the equivalent of 20 blows for one inch or less of penetra tion with a p ower hammer developing a minim um capacity of 15,000 foot pounds of energy per blow. If a large r hammer is used, the number of blows in the last inch of penetration may be reduced in direct proportio n to the energy rati ng of th e hammer , but to no less than 12.
Before pile driving is beg un, the contractor shall p rovide a written certification to the Engineer that the pil e drivers, air compressors, and air valves have been i nspected and f ound to be in good working condition.
New stock mater i al may be used f or steel bearing pile s p rovided t hat ea c h piece can b e ide n tif ied by heat n umber and provided that certified mill test reports are furni shed to th e Department's inspe ctor indicating th at th e material conforms t o the specifications .
T he minimum le ngth of i nstalled piling shall be 10.0 f eet.
Payment for driven piling shall be included in Item 616-4 (HP12 X 53 ), steel Bearing Piles, Driven.
DI SMANTL ING STR UCTU RES:
Th e supe~structure and su bstruc ture of the existing structure shall be re moved in its e nti rety.
Material fr om the disman t led structure shall become t he p roperty of the Contractor and shall be re moved fr om th e right of way .
Ground lines, final slopes and slop e dressing shall be as directed by the Engineer .
Payment shall be incl uded in Item 203-1, Dismantling Structures.
