What is an Intermodal Facility?
Connects multiple modes: Bus Transit, Park and Ride/Carpooling, bike/pedestrian, and maybe rail or air
Intermodal centers range from the simple (parking lot with a bus stop) to the complex (airport with bus and train connections.)
Example: Portsmouth Transportation Center
A NH transit hub that links Portland, ME to Boston, MA.
975+ space park-and-ride lot. Exceptional amenities, including large shelter, bike
racks and lockers, Wi-Fi, and 24 hour access.
Example: Concord Transportation Center Located directly off I-93, it connects the capital to
Boston, Maine, and Vermont. Serviced by Concord Trailways,
Capital Area Transit,
Peter Pan Trailways,
and Vermont Transit. Facilities include a
Bus Terminal and
273 Space Park
and Ride Lot.
If Built, This Facility Would Serve As A Regional Transportation Facility
Provide a terminal for intercity bus providers
Link local fixed-route transit services
Connect demand response human service
transportation providers
Supply significant park-and-ride capacity
Facilitate bicycle and pedestrian connections Potential to provide connections to air or rail
Benefits of an Intermodal Facility?

bus transit, carpooling, biking, walking, and rail. Mitigate the need for costly
infrastructure expansion
Benefits of an Intermodal Facility? Connect region’s transit
