Plan your high school abroad

Students of class 10th and 12th are done with their board exams and are heading towards applying for Universities abroad to pursue their undergrad studies.

Then you should probably know that lakh of Indian students apply to the US and UK Universities for their undergraduate studies every year. For the fact, only a hand full of them is accepted in the best Universities.

The practice that our students generally follow is to work hard during their class 12 and then, they apply for the Universities abroad. However, many a times they miss on hitting it as the application deadlines would have passed by then. The applications for these Universities are open from October to January every year.

Educations abroad being world class have their own set benchmarks. They are more interested in the academic scores of the student from class 9 to class 12. The consistency in their performance during the last four years of school matters a lot here. Therefore, it’s better to kick start the University preparations from class 9.

Experts say that the most important factor of an aspiring student is to stay competitive at the international level and must learn to convert their capability into future aspiration.

Before planning your education abroad, students must always select a course that interests them and should then strive to convert it into a career.

First step: Choosing an international curriculum like IGCSE at 9th and 10th grade is the best start. It forms a base for an International Baccalaureate or A-levels in class 11 and 12.

Short list the Country, University and the Coarse.

The check list in choosing your University should be based on teaching staff, location of the campus, quality of the facilities, support offered to students, tuition fee and living cost. Academic ranking should not be the only criteria to influence your choice.

Grading System

The top universities usually lists out the international student application requirements with GPA (Grade Point Average), SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) or ACT (American College Testing) scores. The scores of SAT should be above 18000. The Ivy leagues requires above 2300 scores on SAT in addition to GPA. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign language) will be required if the student does not have English as his first language in his last 2 years of high school.

It is advisable that students apply for VISA three months in advance with the guidance of the University officers and counselors.

Students should be mentally prepared to the open culture that they will soon be a part off. Moreover, they should be self reliant, independent and highly disciplined on doing the University tasks and also manage chore work of washing their own clothes.
