I Do.

..Me

Too!

The most important two words... “I do”

Planning your ceremony and selecting the celebrant can be a daunting task...

but what is the real focus of the day? The Ceremony!

The whole reason for this day is that you have found the love of your life and you want to spend it together. The ceremony is the place where you get to say “I do”, two families come together and a new generation starts.

Your ceremony should be full of meaning, reflecting the story of the two of you.

A couple of things to think about...

- select the style of the ceremony you would like

- is it going to be in a church, chapel, garden or beach

- think about the location and access for your guests

- what roles will your family take part in

- music for the day

- work out any special ceremonies you would like to add

- are you having any readings

- are you having any songs preformed live

- writing your own vows

- documents and paperwork

Now take your time and enjoy the designing process of your ceremony. When you select a minister or celebrant to preform the ceremony on the day they will assist you with the overall running and will ensure that you have completed all the things “official” to make sure you are legally married.

.The idea of giving your guests a little gift dates back hundreds and hundreds of years it has many names...bomboniere, bomboniera, favors and in more modern times just thank you gifts.

The gift is a beautiful keepsake that is given to guests at special celebrations like weddings. It is both a thank you and a token of remembrance. The gift can take many forms, among the most popular are small boxes tied with beautiful ribbons or lace. The tiny boxes are filled with sugar- coated almonds in Italy they are called confetti and in France they are called dragees. Many people now replace the traditional almonds with chocolates or lollies.

We know weddings are all about traditions and the idea of giving your guests a thank you dates back to 14th Century, when families of the engaged couples began swapping small packages filled with sweets as a sign of good fortune. Over time the sugar coated almonds become the most popular sweet.

The term bomboniere was started in Italy but was soon taken on by the French about the time of King Louis XIV. The King at the time loved the idea of exchanging sweet boxes with visiting dignitaries and during court celebrations. The King and his court used the term “bombonniere” a derivative of the French word “bon bon” which means candy. The boxes given by the King we hand crafted by the artists within his court and were often made of mother of pearl, ivory or gold. This lifted the practice of giving this little gift to be something extra special.

Over time many of the meanings have evolved including that number of treats in the box - the number should be an odd number (ie 5, 7, 9 etc). The meaning of the Almonds is to represent health, wealth, long-life, fertility and happiness.

If you are considering this traditional wedding custom it deserves some special thought, the gift should be thoughtful and individual creation that complements the style of your wedding.

Music is the food for our ears.... don’t let your guests starve!Planning the music for your wedding day should reflect you both as a couple. Keep in mind that there are a number of elements to your wedding that will need music.

Ceremony Musicmusic for the ceremony is simple some general music playing when your guests arrive, a walking down the aisle song, signing the registry song (sometimes best to have two or three songs here) and your walking back up the aisle when you are Mr & Mrs (you can have a little more fun with this song). The big thing is think about where your ceremony will be and do you have access to power? Do you have some thing to play the music on? and is it going to be loud enough? If you have hire musicians tell them exactly where your ceremony will be, some have restrictions and some location are just too hard to get to with instruments....be practical.

Pre-Reception MusicGuests will arrive back to your reception before you and generally you will have canapes for them until you arrive. Work out where the music will come from, if you have booked a DJ or Band your time with them may not commence until later. Music sets the tone for your wedding day and if guests are left standing around the mood quickly disappears.

Dinner MusicThis is the more formal part of the night, just something low key in the back ground to make guests feel comfortable. If you are having a band make sure that you are able to play soft music through their sound system if they are starting after speeches. If the venue is allowing you to use their system test it out before the wedding day.

First DanceYou may or may not want to do a first dance but it is traditional. Generally after you cut the cake your MC will announce that you will be making your way to the dance floor. If you are shy you can just start the dance off and have your MC ask your parents to join you or the bridal party. If your not sure and you have planned a “spectacular” first dance...go for it (make sure someone captures it on video for you).

Time to PartyThe second part of your reception is for you to relax and enjoy. Make sure you have written down all your favorite songs and the DJ / Band know exactly the style of music you love and that you are going to love dancing the night away.

Hair and Beauty TipsEvery bride wants to look their best, but when the wedding count down speeds up, it can be hard not to panic.

You've stressed over the seating plan, argued over the guest list and nearly had a break down over the budget - and now you're supposed to look gorgeous? Ha.

You may have dark circles, prickly legs, frazzled hair and nerves shot to pieces, but there is a way to transform yourself from washed out wedding planner to beautiful bride - in only a matter of weeks!

If you've only got one month to go, don't fret - we've asked beauty experts for their quick fix bridal beauty tips.

These bridal tips will have you looking your beautiful best on your big day.

1 - Feed your skin from the inside. Honey, especially the dark kind, is high in disease fighting antioxidants. Add it to your morning yogurt or tea.

2 - Use sunscreen. Do the sunscreen test hold your arm above your head and check - does the skin on the underside of your upper arm match your face? You may be getting burnt more often than you think. Look for a sunscreen that absorbs UVA (wrinkle-causers) and UVB (the ones that burn) rays.

3 - Take a milk bath. The white stuff is rich in protein and fat, both of which calm any skin irritations. Add two to four cups of whole milk to a warm bath and relax.

4 - Add shine to your hair. Try a post shampoo rinse once a week with 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar diluted in a pint of water in half a litre of water. The acid int he vinegar will remove any build up from styling products.

5 - Crazy for colour. If you are going to colour your hair for the big day then book yourself an appointment at two weeks prior and you can have a final trim at the same time.

6 - Eye lash tint. If you are worried about your mascara running on your wedding day then book yourself in a few days before the wedding and have them professionally tinted. This way your eyes will look amazing and you won’t be worried about the couple of tears on your wedding day.

Shapelier Arms and ChestAre you wearing a sleeveless or low-cut wedding dress? You will almost definitely benefit from an upper body workout. You should always start with a warm up when you exercise but these may be some thing you can add into your daily workout schedule.

Tip...When working one arm at a time you should do a full set before swapping to the other side.

Look at doing eight repetitions of each exercises on each side for the first few weeks and then after that work up gradually to two or three sets of 12. If it becomes too easy increase the size of the weights. Move slowly and have control with every repetition.

We all exercise better with a friend or join a gym...

Lower your bottom towards the floor until your elbows are at right angles, then come back until they’re straight again.

Style

You

r Day

...What’s your theme?I think I cringe every time I hear someone ask this...I am sure the person would almost fall over if the bride said Mardi Gras or James Bond - they are themes, themes you would have at a party. Weddings now have a style, its about finding what reflects you as a couple and what will make your guests feel like the day is about the two of you.

Once you begin to plan your wedding it is easy for your wedding to simply take over your thoughts night and day. With many traditional wedding options being omitted for more personalised touches, brides and grooms to be are looking for new and novel ways to inject their personality into their big day.

To help our brides we have a step by step guide to working out your own personal style.

Here are some tips on creating your own style inspiration board

Consider your venueYou may want a rustic garden wedding, but you have chosen a venue with lush red swirlie carpet and down lights. With some clever styling you will be able to achieve your garden look (nothing is impossible!) but be sure to consider this in your budget. Our advice is to choose a venue that suits your personality and style, consider your budget, and speak with the venue about what restrictions you may have when it comes styling your wedding.

What do you Love?Take note of the kinds of places you visit as a couple. Do you visit the beach? Do you drive for hours to find the best mango gelato? Let these little experiences shine through and share them with your guests. A wedding is all about two people and their journey to finding love, it is a great opportunity to share your favourite things with the people who love you most. These little things will help create the “That was SOOO THEM!! talk after your big day!

Chop & Stick! Its time to get crafty...even for those of you have not used glue and scissor since you left school. Cut things out that inspire you! Place them on your desk, a pin board, a fridge… consider what it is you like, is it the shape? The colour? Is it how it makes you feel? We suggest home décor magazines, fashion magazines, travel books for some fresh inspiration!

Ideas! No idea is too silly, write it down! You may not use it, but you would be surprised at how the silly ideas morph into realistic and innovative concepts!

Buy a bookAnd keep all your inspirations in one place. Its wonderful to look back on after your big day also!

Now you have an idea about what inspires you, its time to

decide on your design elements. Is it lighting? Will it be colour?

.When is a dress not just a dress? The first thing you should do before actually heading to the bridal shop is get an idea about which style of wedding gown you prefer. You will need to get familiar with wedding gown terminology and styles. Here are some general guidelines to help you get started on the road to wedding day bliss.

A-lineThe A-line or princess dress has no marked waist and the vertical seams flow from the shoulders down to a flared skirt, creating an "A" shape. If you carry your weight in the middle, this silhouette is a nice choice.

Ball gownThese gowns are normally quite formal, reminding you of Cinderella. The bodice is fitted with a very full skirt. Ball gowns can be long-sleeved, sleeveless or anywhere in between. The full skirt of a ball gown can hide large hips and thighs.

EmpireEmpire gowns have a raised waistline that starts right under the bust, flowing to a skirt that skims over the hips then flairs slightly to the floor. This romantic silhouette is flattering to most body types and is particularly flattering to small-breasted women.

MermaidAs the name indicates, the mermaid dress is contoured against the body then the gown flows out beginning around the knees. This is the sexiest of the styles. If you're confident in your body, a mermaid dress can show off your curves.

SheathThe sheath or column dress has a slim shape that follows close to the line of the body. The straight design doesn't allow for many body flaws. The long lines of a sheath gown can elongate the look of your body.

!Some helpful things to remember...Backgrounds and AnglesRemember, your wedding day is all about you. Many times complicated backgrounds in your photos distract the viewer's attention away from the bride and will take away from your photographs. Keep backgrounds as simple as possible. Interesting angles are what keeps the images of a professional photographer from looking like the images of good old Uncle John. Everyone knows what a wedding looks like from eye height. You may see your photographer or videographer lying on the ground or climbing trees. Don't laugh at him. That's why he gets paid well for doing a great job by making you look fantastic.

LightingWhen choosing your venue and time of day, keep lighting in mind. If your wedding is outdoors, the best light happens 1-2 hours before sunset. If your wedding is indoors, try to avoid buildings with high dark ceilings and few windows. Since natural light will look much better in your photos, try to plan your wedding when the room will be the brightest. By the way, photographers hate fluorescent lights. They make you look green.

Hair and MakeupYour wedding day is not the right time to experiment with makeup and hairstyles. Be sure to plan a separate day to have a hair and makeup "dress rehearsal". If you plan to wear a headpiece, tiara, flower or garland make sure you use this rehearsal time to make sure that it will fit with your overall look on the day. That way your photographer wont be wasting precious light while you are adjusting your hair.

PropsGive your photographer the tools he needs to be creative. When thinking about your wedding photos and the style of wedding consider if you want any props used. some formal weddings may only use a board with thank you printed but if your wedding is in a country style then think about what fun props you may like. Anything from red cowboy boots to Just Married bunting. The choices are endless these days - check with your photographer they may have some or you can hihre them through your styling company.

Special TouchesHave a copy of your wedding invitation available on the day so that they can incorporate into the detail shots of your big day. Photos of wedding rings with flowers, invitation, maybe even your shoes and garter can really add to your album.

Single Use CamerasLots of people use them and hope for the best. The reality is they are for a bit of fun. You may get a few good photos here and there but don't expect too much. You'll probably get a whole camera full of photos of Cousin Courtney's new boyfriend that you hardly know. And if anyone gets tipsy at the reception you may get a lot of photos of the ground, shoes, or eyeballs (from holding the camera backwards). Your photography is best left to professionals.

Social Media...and the unplugged wedding!

So you are thinking about having an unplugged wedding — or maybe at least the ceremony.

Encouraging your guests to put down their favorite devices can be a touchy subject… As with any special request you make of your wedding guests, you need to be sensitive and respectful because you don’t want any guests seeing red at your special request.

If you're unsure how to request unplugging in a way that won't annoy your guests, we're here to help. Below, we've have found a sign that offer you inspiration for your wedding. The wording could be read out by your celebrant or in the ceremony program. You could even send a separate little card with your invitations to let guests know in advance what your thoughts are and give them time to warm up to the idea. You could even have some printed signs you can post at the ceremony or reception venue!

Before the wedding…

Talk to your photographer - Remember your wedding guests take photos because they want to share the experience of the day. If you're considering an unplugged wedding, you must commit to sharing photos with guests and make plans for how you're going to do so. Work with your wedding photographer to ensure you can make a small set of photos (even just five shots!) available digitally to guests within a couple days of the wedding. You can share them via email, your wedding website, or facebook — the method doesn't matter. Just make sure you've got it figured out with your photographer before you unplug your wedding day.

Wording for invitations, ceremony programs & signage...

If you're sharing wedding information online with guests via a wedding website, you can warn give them some perspectives before the wedding about why you're asking them to leave their devices off. Below is some sample wording that you could use.

Our Unplugged wedding - We want our amazing guests to be able to really enjoy our wedding day, feeling truly present and in the moment with us. We've hired an amazing wedding photographer who will be capturing the way the wedding looks — and we're inviting each of you to sit back, relax, and just enjoy how the wedding feels. We're respectfully asking that everyone consider leaving all cameras and cell phones off. Of course we will happy to share our wedding photos with you afterward!

You could include a short note in your programs:We want you to be able to relax and have fun with us today! This in mind, we invite you to put down all your favorite devices and just be present in the moment with us. Please leave your camera in your bag (we've got photography covered!), and put your cell phone on mute (we promise they'll call back!).We're happy to share our professional wedding photos later, but the greatest gift you can give us today is just being fully here with us in this sacred and special moment.

Your

Invit

ed...

First Impressions...Do you feel the same excitement as I do when you receive a wedding invitation in the mail? It certainly makes my day, but sometimes there is so much information on the invitation that it diminishes the elegance and main purpose of the invitation. Designing your wedding invitations will take some time, don’t rush things. Make sure you leave plenty of time for the design stage or you will feel that you have settled for some thing just not quiet right as you are starting to run out of time.

The number of invitations to sendThis obviously will depend on the number of guests you are inviting. Know your guest and find out how many singles and couples you are inviting. A couple should only be sent one invitation. So for a guest of about 100, you might only need about 60-70 invitations.

Send your invitations early Give your guest ample notification of your big day. Ideally you should sent them 4 – 2 months and make your RSVP date between four and six weeks. This helps you know exactly how many guests are going to show up..Always have a couple of extra invitations just in case you forgot someone earlier on.

Consider your budgetBefore deciding whether you should opt for a mass production card or a custom one, you should consider your budget. While having a custom designed card will make your invitations more unique, it may not be in the budget. Check with your invitation designer and there may be more than one design of the invitation you like.

All the extra cards Your invitation should have all the main information like ceremony & reception details along with dress code. If you are having wishing wells, accommodation information, pre or post functions these should all be on different cards.

..Selecting a Wedding CarThere is no other element that creates a spectacular arrival than the wedding vehicle that you and your wedding party arrive in.Wedding cars play a key role in making magnificent entrances and nothing beats the pleasure of traveling in opulent luxury and style. That’s why selecting the right wedding car to compliment the style and theme of your event is crucial.

Vintage, Classic Or Modern?

Vintage cars are generally made between 1919 and 1930.Classics are from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and are no longer in production, yet still popular.

Modern Classics tend to be iconic cars from some of the classic makes that people believe stand out enough to be classics. Examples include: Ferrari Enzo, Jaguar XK8R and Aston Martin DB9.

Modern cars are generally late model luxury limousines and vehicles such as Mercedes, BMW and Ferrari’s.

There are no rules when it comes to wedding cars and arriving in style, however make sure that it is YOUR style and that it matches your wedding style.

If you’re having a modern or casual wedding, consider a motorcycle, converted fire engine or flashy new convertible Mercedes or Ferrari as your wedding transport. On the other hand, if your ceremony and reception is more traditional, a classic Rolls Royce, Jaguar and Aston Martin, or a vintage Dodge or Buick may be exactly what you’re after. These are definitely for those couples that want to make a statement.

Limousines are a classic choice for wedding cars. The couple hosting a classic and traditional wedding generally choose the limousine to accommodate themselves, their family and the bridal party. Other excellent choices in wedding cars that can also accommodate a large wedding party include stretch SUV’s.

For the bride and groom who want a more intimate experience, consider wedding cars that are elegant, yet provide a more romantic and intimate setting of a classic car, such as the Rolls Royce and Bentley. Each of these wedding cars will definitely leave a lasting impression on your wedding guests.

A wedding car of any era will make you feel a million dollars and selecting the right wedding car company will take a lot of the stress away from your wedding planning. So read these helpful tips to choose your wedding cars wisely.

Hire

...LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION:If you want to get married in your home consider the space. If your home is small look at the out door areas that can be used. Is you house open plan this way every single room can be open and available for guests to mingle and sit in.. You might also consider using the fabulous home of a close friend or family member (if they’re open to the idea). Remembering that if you are going in use outdoor areas you must always, have an indoor alternative in case weather gets crazy.

CLEAN HOUSE:If you’re getting married in your home you will need to make the place spotless. I would recommend doing this a whole week prior to your wedding. Sometimes it can be a good idea to hire a cleaning company to come in to do all of the deep cleaning. Trust me, there was nothing romantic about mopping down your wood floors, sticky with spilled liquor , the morning of the wedding.

DECORATIONS:Along with a spotless house I recommend creating a festive atmosphere through lighting and decoration. Filling your house with tea lights, placed strands of twinkle lights under our furniture, your can use lamps instead of overhead lights and why not hang a ton of white lanterns from your ceilings. Flowers can be bought from the florist in bunches and place them in pretty vintage vases around the house. I also advise getting your decorations up and ready the weekend before your wedding – for whatever reason we waited until the morning of, and it was stressful.

FOOD / CATERING / ALCOHOL:The Food: Depending on your budget - you know that you want to feed your guests well. You need to work out the style of the food you want served it may be a cocktail style where the food is served on trays. You may have a buffet where the food is placed on buffet and guests help themselves or for something more formal and if you have the space a full sit down menu. Catering will depend greatly on two things budget and space.

The Alcohol: most weddings serve the standard beer wine and soft drinks. You have the flexibility at home to make a spectacular summer time punch or a signature cocktail served when guests first arrive. I would suggest that you hire a barman on the night, this way he / she can clean up as the night goes along. Nothing worse than waking up the next day to find your house full of glasses and bottles.

Celebrating hens & bucks nights has been going on for a very long time, however many modern brides-to-be view lively and even racy evenings on the town with their lady friends as a time-honored tradition well worth following.

The humble hens nights actually has its roots that are nothing short of demure. This pre-wedding practice goes back centuries and is said to have evolved from a solemn undertaking that was quite common in the 1600s when the bride would spend a night alone going over the contents of her dowry. As the years and centuries passed, the evening of solitude took on a new flavor with the birth of bridal showers. Designed to help brides bolster their dowries, this event generally involves a luncheon or formal dinner where gifts are bestowed upon the bride by other women be they wedding party members, family or friends. Although showers are still quite common, more formalized hen parties grew out of them, offering their own unique traditions.

Whereas showers are meant as gift-giving occasions, hen parties are all about pre-wedding revelry. It is not at all uncommon for hen parties to include champagne toasts, free-flowing spirits and even adult entertainment.

So, when exactly did evenings of spirit, song and even male strippers take the front seat whilst demure gatherings were relegated to the back?

Although an exact date is difficult to pin down, the rise in popularity of hen parties in Australia and bachelorette parties in the United States does seem to correlate to the sexual revolution of the 1960s. As more women stood up for equality, a party to match bachelors’ pre-wedding festivities was deemed a priority for brides-to-be. By the 1980s, the hens party had firmly placed itself in the pre-nuptial traditions.

Today’s hen parties run the gamut in style and formality levels. Some brides-to-be still enjoy simple and relatively quiet dinners with their female friends before they take the plunge. Other brides and their friends, however, opt for more elaborate celebrations. It’s not even out of the question for a hen night to extend over an entire weekend as the bride soaks up the last fleeting moments of her “freedom.”

In spite of its more subdued roots, the hens night tradition, like many others, is one that has evolved over time. The only real rule dictating this type of celebration is making sure that the bride-to-be is comfortable with the planned festivities. Beyond that – anything goes.

.....Have fun!
