1. INTRODUCTION.

This parts list contains spare part numbers,general model information and importantsafety information for the Hydraulic DrifterYH80A (hereafter referred to as drifter).

2. SAFETY FIRST.

SAFETY FIRST is the primary concern forthe protection of both, personnel and thedrifter during any phase of operation. Allpersonnel must thoroughly understand allsafety precautions before operating or do-ing any maintenance work on the drifter.

3. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.

The Safety Precautions listed are intendedtomake all personnel aware of the hazardswhile working on or near a drifter. All per-sonnel must use common sense and agood working practice while operating andmaintaining this drifter. These safety pre-cautions listed are of a general nature andcannot cover every possible situation:

a. Do not attempt to operate the hydraulicdrifter unless you are thoroughly familiarwith all the crawler gauges, controls, andfunctions. Refer to the section of thecrawler instruction book for detailed

instructions. Failure to comply could resultin bodily injury.

b. Always wear approved hard hat, safetyshoes, safety glasses, nose mask and earprotection when near a drifter in operation.

c. Use only Ingersoll--Rand replace--ment parts.

d. Keep hands, arms, legs and clothingaway from all moving parts. Failure tocomply could result in bodily injury.

e. The drifter, striking bar, couplings, drillsteels and bit are hot during the drillingoperation. Do not touch these parts withyour bare hands. Wear gloves to protectyour hands when you are changing bits orsteels. A severe burn will result if rotatingparts are touched with bare hands.

f. Keep all hose connections tight. Aloose hose connection not only causesleaks and poor performance, but may alsoallow the hose to come off the drifter, whiparound, and injure the operator or otherpeople in the area.

g. Make sure that the parts--cleaningsolvent is non--flammable, will not harm theskin, meets current safety and healthstandards, and is used in well ventilatedarea.

h. Dry nitrogen is the only gas product tobe used to charge the drifter accumulators.Never use oxygen to charge theaccumulators. Ignition of an oxygen andoilmixture could produce an explosion, whichcould severely injure personnel in the area.

i. Be sure to bleed the accumulatorsbefore any accumulator disassembly is

attempted.

j. Make sure the accumulators are ingood condition. Make sure theaccumulator components have no cracksor signs of excessive wear. Whenpressurized, a damaged accumulatorcould burst, scattering metal fragmentsthroughout the area which could severelyinjure personnel.

GENERAL.

The YH80A Hydraulic Drifter (drifter) is avalved, hydraulically--operated hammerdrill that incorporates an integral, indepen-dently--controlled, hydraulically--poweredrotation motor to rotate the drill steel andbit.

The drifter is capable of drilling 3 to 4 in. (75to 102 mm) diameter holes in all types ofrock formations. It is especially suitable forpipeline work, drilling vertical and angleholes in quarries, and on any constructionjobs where large volume rock excavationsare required.

ROTATION MOTOR.

The hydraulically--powered rotation motoris independently controlled and is de-signed to provide continuous drill steel ro-tation -- forward or reverse. Themotor con-verts hydraulic fluid to rotation power andtransmits the rotation power to the spurgear train housed in the drifter fronthead.The hydraulic rotation motor providessmooth, powerful rotation, especially at lowrotation speeds, and assures the operatorof positive rotation control under all drillingconditions.

BLOWER TUBE.

The drifter has a single blower tube con-struction. The blower tube carries holecleaning air from the inlet connection in thebackhead, through the center of the drifter,striking bar, steel and bit to the bottom ofthe hole without contacting any of the inter-nal parts of the drifter.

CHUCK PARTS.

The standard drifter is equippedwith chuckparts to accommodate a 6--spline strikingbar. The reverse percussion drifter is

equipped with chuck parts to accommo-date a 8--spline striking bar.

ACCUMULATORS.

The drifter uses three built--in nitrogen--charged, diaphragm--type accumulators todampen vibrations in the supply and returnlines. The high pressure accumulatorsmust be charged to 853 psi (60 kg/cm2)and the low pressure accumulators mustbe charged to 57 psi (4 kg/cm2).

An accumulator charging kit is fur-nished as an accessory item with themachine on which the drifter is used.

FRONT END LUBRICATION.

The drifter uses an oil mist to provide lubri-cation to all critical points in the front end ofthe drifter. A 3/8 in. (9.5 mm) diameterhose line connected to the drifter carriesthe oil--laden air from a lubricator (part ofthe drilling machine) to the drifter front endparts. Oil flow is controlled by the lubricatorlocated on the drilling machine.

REVERSE PERCUSSION OPTION.

(Furnished Only When Specially Ordered)

The standard drifter does not include re-verse percussion as standard equipement.The reverse percussion kit must be or-dered separately. Refer to Section 3 of thisparts list for part numbers.

The drifter does not include a striking bar

as standard equipment. The striking barmust be specially ordered. Table 1 lists theavailable striking bars for use with the drift-er.
