Property and business manager Greg Stokes believes the nomination is recognition for their hard work and progress since the new team took over the business in 2010/2011. "This nomination has come from the people who actually live at the village so it's the best possible nomination you can receive," he said. "We're very pleased that the people that live and eat here are happy with the services that we're providing." Mr Stokes gave special mention to on-site manager David Elliott and Chenelle Mitchell. "We have space for up to 60 residents and when we started out in 2010/2011 we had only 24 residents, which we have almost doubled. So that tells us we're doing a good job and we're moving towards our goal of being at full capacity," he said. Mr Stokes believes what makes Albert Street Gardens different to retirement villages is the fact they offer a lot more flexibility for their residents. "There's a number of things, we offer rental accommodation for seniors for long and short-term stays that don't require any up-front deposit or exit fees. Residents can leave with as little as three weeks notice and we also accept people with physical impairments," he said. "We also have on-site chefs that prepare meals for the residents who can eat the meals in the dining room or in the comfort of their own units. At a retirement village they wouldn't get those choices."
