$6.5M IN STATE GOVERNMENT FUNDING FOR 77 LOCAL SPORTS FACILITIES
Recreation and Sport Minister, Tom Kenyon today announced the 77 community sporting groupsacross South Australia who have been selected to share in more than $6.5 million of funding toimprove and upgrade their facilities.
“The successful applicants will receive grants via the Community Recreation and Sport FacilitiesProgram (CRSFP), which assists with grassroots sport and recreation facility developments andupgrades,” Mr Kenyon said.
“Grassroots sports organisations are so important to the fabric of South Australia, and the StateGovernment is committed to supporting local sport and recreation groups as they strive to helpcreate stronger communities.”
“The CRSFP has proven to be a hugely popular program in both the city and country regions, andonce again there were many high quality applications this year from all corners of the SouthAustralian sporting and recreational community.”
“I am delighted that we have been able to provide 77 projects with $6.581m in financial assistancethrough CRSFP in 2011-12.
“These projects will make a significant contribution to the community by improving the level ofservice and activities local clubs offer South Australians.
“We hold a strong commitment to support active recreation and sport programs that assist inimproving our health and wellbeing and I’m confident this funding will give tens of thousands ofSouth Australians of all ages greater opportunities to be involved in physical activity,” Mr Kenyonsaid.
The successful projects include:• $500,000 for a multi-purpose synthetic pitch at Stockwell Recreation Park• $400,000 towards the Walkleys Park Clubroom Redevelopment.• $200,000 for the development of change rooms and canteen at Cummins Memorial Recreation
Centre• $200,000 towards the upgrade of McLaughlin Park in Millicent• $200,000 towards the replacement of the synthetic hockey pitch at Port Adelaide• $200,000 towards the development of a regional tennis facility at Mount Barker• $200,000 towards the consolidation of sporting facilities at Quorn Oval

Mr Kenyon said all funding was required to be matched by the applicant through other fundingsources or in-kind contributions.
“This matched funding requirement means that our total annual investment of $6.581 million intothe program will result in at nearly $19 million worth of economic activity across the State,” MrKenyon said.
Applications for the next round of CRSFP are expected to open on March 3, 2012.
