Why pipe hanger inspection?
Pipes form the arteries of your company, which interconnect various production sections and
devices. Faulty or ineffective piping forms a hazard for your operating processes and the
safety of your piping network becomes an issue. Therefore, in respect of operational reliabi-
lity and the duty of care for a safe working environment, it is of paramount importance that
the piping forms a reliable part of the company infrastructure.
Your company infrastructure reliability will be increased considerably through timely, perio-
dical inspections of hangers and piping in relation to functioning and continued functioning.
What happens to your piping through time?
When assembling new piping, suf cient slope and a pre-calculated, permitted transition
are taken into account during the design. If actual slope and transition are still within the
pre-accepted margins, then processes like water drainage operate soundly and the ow
velocities are within acceptable limits. The generated forces, moments, and tensions will be
partially absorbed by spring hangers and stay within the acceptable thresholds.
However, through time, the actual situation will no longer correspond with the design situ-
ation: this is due to the weather, the environment, minor accidents, material fatigue or the
medium in the piping.
So if actual measured positions of pipe hangers and displacements deviate from the design
values, the slope of the piping alters resulting in changes in the occurring loads, moments,and tensions. This is detrimental to the mechanical and process-based reliability of the
piping network. This undermines your company operations and the safety.
What can NEM Standard Fasel do for you in this respect?
These undesirable effects can be avoided by executing a “pipe-support scan” or “pipe
hanger inspection”: problematic situations are de ned and recognised at an early stage.
NEM Standard Fasel has the knowledge, expertise and capacity to execute these inspections
inspection for your company.
However, the regime of the inspections, the intensity and nature of the inspection is not
identical for all piping. The matters we focus when determining this include:
• the signi cance of the various piping in relation to your type of business and for safety
• old-age and type of support for the various piping
• pressures, temperatures, medium and material types.
These aspects will be weighed up and an individual inspection regime will be proposed
for various piping systems. NEM Standard Fasel can illustrate this for your entire piping
infrastructure in a strategic inspection and testing plan. This secures your own duty of care,
signi cantly improves the reliability of your piping infrastructure, and at the same time,
there is a registration system in place for the movement of the piping through time.
The actual inspection is ingrained in this inspection plan. However, we can also inspect
piping traces for you, even if no such an integral plan has been drawn up. We inspect up to
a height of 9 metres without using scaffolding.
We conclude each inspection with a report; you will receive this shortly after the inspectionis completed. We are in a position to make suitable and directed suggestions on account of
the substantial information we have relating to several pipe hanger types and brands (also
outdated types). We will supply a repair proposal if required.
